Specs for TANE

There is a thread from johnwhelan on this but I do not want to barge in this.

At my age this will be my last computer. Present one from pcspecialists has been good enough up to now but is definitely showing its age.

I can afford around £600. Over this and divorce ( after + 60 yrs) rears its ugly head :'( Pcspecialists recommended Intel® Core™ i3-7100
ASUS® H110M-R
8GB Corsair VENGEANCE 2133MHz
4GB GEFORCE GTX 1050 Ti
1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s
Corsair 350W Series power supply unit

Not too sure this will run Thane very well.

Appreciate advice please.

Thanks

Should be OK, the 1050TI is performance wise pretty much equivalent to a GTX680.

I have an old rig with a Phenom 1090T and GTX680 and that will run TANE smoothly at around 30FPS, not as good as my main rig but usable. (Main rig a PC Specialist one)

The i3 7100 although less core benchmarks 75% better than the Phenom and if a GTX680 works then no reason why a 1050TI wont.

What is your present rig?

Dropping in a new GPU might be cheaper and give you better performance.

Dell have a GTX 1050 ti machine XPS 8930 at 899 with 15% off at the moment. The CPUs haven't changed that much so you might be better off upgrading the GPU since Win 10 is 90 quid which makes a hole in your budget straight off.

ebuyer.com has an i5 with a GTX 1050 ti for
£ 599.99 on a black friday whatever.

Basically you don't need a specialist machine these days as long as it has an i5 and a min of GTX1050 ti you should be fine. I'd stay away from the i3 but that's just me.

Thanks everyone for your time and trouble. Sorry have not replied before.
Much to mull over.

IMHO, the Intel® Core™ i3-7100 running Tane SP2 HF1 just won't cut the mustard. The minimum I'd be looking at is an i5. Overclocked if they are able too, with preferably, liquid cooling...

Others may disagree! (I've been running an liquid cooled overclocked i5 for the last 18 - 24 months and I'm wrapped with it. Started off with a Nvidia 680 GPU, then upgraded to a Nvidia 1080). Still humming nicely...

Yes but it doesn't fit the budget.

Again, many thanks. I think that I might go for the ebuyer one that clam 1952 kindly found.
It does not appear to have a DVDslot or any trays (bays) for an extra HDD. As I have DVDs for programmes I might have to use something like Zinstall's WinWin to transfer old > new PCs.

I'm sure Tane will be worth it and I can get back to the running Trainz after over 12 month away :D

ess1 - That rig will almost certainly have internal bays for extra HDDs and SSDs - and for the relatively infrequent occasions where you need to run a DVD or CD-ROM these days - then an inexpensive external DVD R/W unit is another possibility, though using your network to connect to an older PC with a DVD drive is cool too.

PS. You're going to LOVE T:ANE!

Temporarily you could hook up the dvd drive to the PC if you take the side off, which you have to do with PC Specialist stuff to remove the packing inside.

Many thanks for info John. clam sent PM with details of an ebuyer pc which I have purchased.

Appreciated all your efforts. Just have to recall how to run Trainz again!

Very good. What else can one expect from poster with a GWR engine.:D

Now to worry about transferring from old to new comp. plus buying Tane. Tried running 2009 - saved scenario from some 18 months ago. Forgot so much.
