LIMERICK, Ireland — Railroad passengers in Ireland had to swap rails for wheels after an injured cow halted all passenger trains on Irish Rail’s network between Limerick and Clare over the weekend, the Irish Mirror reports.

Irish Rail representatives took to Twitter Saturday afternoon to alert passengers that rail service was suspended due to an injured cow on the railroad right-of-way. As a result, transfer buses were tending to passengers between Limerick and Ennis for an undisclosed period of time.

It was not immediately clear how the cow got onto the right-of-way and why its injury was significant enough to disrupt rail service, however, passengers were back to riding the rails by late Saturday. As in other European countries, Ireland's rail rights-of-way are mostly fenced.
