Would TRS12 or the T:ANE work on the 13" Dell Inspiron 13" 5000 2-in-1?
Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1

Hi Bobby,

Please provide the specifications for that specific model laptop you're interested in. I know they do have Intel Graphics, but that's about it because my brother has one, but other than that I wouldn't know. But being Dell, there are multiple models based on the same base 5000. They'll have this and then various sub-models, which can make making recommendations difficult.

I bought a DELL, or an APPLE MAC, with a bright new shiny skin, with inferior hardware inside, and want to know why it doesn't run Twainz ... could it be because I bought a Cwappy PC ?

With Chris Nawlins help we've created a layout that runs on an i5 Dell laptop with Intel integrated graphics series 4000.

The beta is here.

The final is due to be available within 24 hours on the DLS and that was yesterday.

The Dell Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 will run but I would steer away from the lowest end machines. The integrated graphics will have more to do with how well and how much you can run.

A lot depends on whether you choose the I-7 option over the I-5 or I-3 options. (also 8 megs of ram, rather than 4 megs). Biggest draw back is the 620 Integrated graphics, with shared graphic memory. I think this is the weakest part of the equation and IMHO, would struggle to run any reasonably detailed route in either TS2012 or Tane. Even with ALL your settings reasonably low. The word "slideshow" comes to mind!!!

Processor Options...
  • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.5 GHz)
  • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-7200U Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)
  • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)
  • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-7100U Processor (3MB Cache, 2.40 GHz)
  • Intel® Pentium® Processor 4415U (2MB Cache, up to 2.3 GHz)
  • KBL i5-7xxxx FY18CY2

Operating System
Windows 10 Home Single Language, 64 bit
  • Windows 10 Pro 64-bit English
  • Memory

  • 8GB, 2400MHz, DDR4, up to 16GB (additional memory sold separately)
  • 4GB, 2400MHz, DDR4, up to 16GB (additional memory sold separately)

Video Card

  • Intel® HD graphics 620 with shared graphics memory
  • Intel® HD graphics 610 with shared graphics memory

Display

  • 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Truelife LED-Backlit Touch Display with Wide Viewing Angles-HD Camera

Cheers, Mac...

I'm running T:ANE (occasionally) on an Inspiron 3847 desktop with an Intel i5 CPU, 8Gb RAM and an old Nvidia GForce GT640 2Gb card. It runs reasonably well although I keep the performance sliders toward the low end. If an NVIDIA adapter is offered, get it.

My Dell laptop with an I7 processor, 8Gb and Intel integrated graphics runs TANE acceptably although as you might expect it's not as smooth. Still, it's no worse than Trainz 2010 was on the desktop.

:B~)

Intel HD Graphics 620 isn't the greatest for TANE. It will run Middleton but then anything with a 4000 series or better HD integrated graphics will run Middleton for laptops at 20+ fps.

https://forums.auran.com/trainz/sho...t-happy-at-all-with-it)&p=1617939#post1617939 the OP finally decide to use TS12 which he says runs quite well. He had a 620 Intel whatever.

So yes it can be done and Dell do have machines with a GTX 1060 video card but then you get to cost.

Sorry for delay John (and others) but had been out of action re health problems. Description by meatloaf and a review on http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc...ptops-and-netbooks/dell-xps-13-1328971/review

It costs over a thousand quid.

You could have a look at PC Specialist, in the UK. Here is an example of a desktop that would give you reasonable, though not stellar, performance in TANE. You have the option to customise it to suit your needs (e.g. doubling the RAM to 16 GB adds around 70 pounds). Link: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-800-Gaming-PC/

I'm afraid this is about the minimum spend required to get decent performance across various routes. Otherwise you are going to have to be choosy over which routes you operate, as others have stated.

Cheers,
John

Wasn't interested in a desktop Vostrail as I did indicate was referring to a laptop. I have a good pc and a laptop and was more curious about the passing Dell lap thing due to lightness.

It might be worth playing with middleton, going on from there I added Jack Barber's BR van and the frame rates didn't sink so it might be able to support a few different more detailed assets, I didn't push the limits. Try it on your existing laptop, try Chris's session first swich the loco but run the same type, then sub the wagons and vans for the detailed or detailed wooden frame variety and see how far you get. On an i5 with integrated graphics someone was getting better frame rates with TS12.
