In surveyor under "edit environment" I alter the colours for water, sun, ambience and change the sky to try and make it fit the theme. Then I move the time about to get a good idea as to whether it looks decent or not to my eye. The different skies seems to be quite important as it does alter the "feel" and "look" of a route as well as it seems to alter how the lighting appears. But this last part may be just a figment of my imagination.
In QD, I use the Post processing settings, when taking screenshots.
