Greetings.

Once upon a time these beasts roamed the world, now they are nearly extinct, the preserve of a dedicated few bringing them back to life so that this generation and the next can still get to see them breathing fire. This week's theme is Modern Steam. Please send your theme suggestions for subsequent competitions via email or Skype by clicking on the little icons below my username.

One screenshot allowed per entrant. Screenshots must adhere to the theme and the Trainz Forum Code of Conduct.

Submission closes on July 2 at 12:00 noon UTC/GMT/Zulu time.

Cheerio,
Nicholas

On February 2, 2017 Sierra #3 performed yet another photo shoot, this time for the BBC. Her consist for the trip was just shorty coach #6. Seen here just outside of Jamestown. (In reality, that day was overcast and damp.)

So modern it hasn't been built yet! The Ffestiniog Railway's new James Spooner locomotive should be complete by 2020... Additionally most of the carriages in the train have been built in the last 10 years and those which weren't are only around 40 years old. The same railway can also run entire trains of Victorian stock!

Back in 2013, Strasburg Railroad 2-10-0 decapod #90 hauls a freight over Byler's Crossing for a Lerro Production photo shoot.

For the 50th Anniversary of the Santa Claus Special the Union Pacific Challenger 3985 made its first-ever venture east of the Mississippi River in November, 1992, as it traveled off line onto CSX rails. This historic event was prompted by the 50th running of the Santa Claus Special, a tradition of the former Clinchfield Railroad that is being carried on by the railroad's successor, CSX. Each year, on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the special train carries Santa Claus and his helpers as they toss candy and gifts to the children of the coal mining towns that line the route from Shelbiana, Kentucky, to Kingsport, Tennessee. (Shown here just south of Shelbiana.)

We don't have the UP tool car and boxcar shown in the movie in trainz but DaveSnow's waffle car looks OK, so far as I can tell we don't have any of CSX's Historical Passenger fleet. If you look closely at the movie you'll note there are four open platform observation cars in this consist!

(When you get to be my age 1992 is modern)

LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163 Tornado Pulls into Ashburton

LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163 Tornado Pulls into Ashburton (preserved GWR) station just as one of the few clouds in the sky covers the sun. However, nothing can diminiush the splendour of this 21st century new-build, constructed according to Arthur Peppercorn's mid 20th century designs and yet augmented with 21st century electronics and electrical systems to run safely at speed on UK mailines.

Tornado was built between 1994 and 2008 and certified for the UK mainline network in January 2009.

On 12th April 2017, it became the first steam engine since 1967 to run at 100mph on the UK mainline network and has recently visited the GWR preserved Bodmin and Wenford Railway, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o85_3eOkV4 .

In Trainz, the loco and tender can be bought as PAYWARE, at a decent price, on camccott's site Darlington Works darlington-works.weebly.com/peppercorn-a1s.html .

After 2 years of debugging the L&A's steam turbine is ready to take the Angel of the Winds to Maimi and just waiting for the PRR's Ohio Express to clear the track ahead. To the left the Cincinnatian has just finished its run.
