And now we are less than 2,000 active members

Just a little curious, but what is required to be counted as an active member, the number of posts you post for a certain time, or.....??

The number of users on a forum does not reflect the interest in a product. There are many people who never visit the forums, and there are some who have been registered for years that show up here in the forums only to ask an occasional question, or those that may show up once in a decade since they bought the product.

Hi everybody.
With the greatest respect to a number of the above posters on this forum, but i fail to see how the number of persons visiting any topic or product forum cannot be an indication of the level of interest in that topic or product. The foregoing is especially significant when that number would seem to be in a gradual decline over a perlonged period.

Obviously N3V are not about to disclose their revenue income as against their set overhead costs (re, gross profit set against previous years) and in that they they are doing exactly what any private company should do. However, should anyone look at the overall trends in IT gaming at the present time, then it is not difficult to see why "possibly" interest in the Trainz forum is not at a level of previous years.

Worldwide IT gaming has expanded tremendously in the last few years with huge amounts of new revenue coming into industry to the benefit of developers. However, the industry has gained a great diversity from being solely based on PC gaming to accommodating both console and mobile platforms all of which has the effect of also diversifying the revenue which comes into the industry.

In the above, N3V as accommodated the mobile platform by way of catering for iOS users (Apple iPad and iPhone) and also to a much lesser extent android users. However, this forum is not set up to accommodate those users in any great manner and has rather held on to its traditional roots which are based in its PC gaming tradition. N3V has indicated in the past that the revenue and profitability derived from the iOS version of Trainz very much contributes to the viability of the PC version.

With the above in mind, perhaps the present time would be a good time to change the whole appearance and presentation of this forum so as as to bring greater visuality and preference to the mobile section. With N3V advising that they are to release a new version of Trainz on the android platform it would be essential that those purchasing that version post their comments and questions on this forum and not on the Google play store or Google plus forums where inappropriate answers may be received from those who have no knowledge of Trainz or this hobby.

In the above, it would be very much in the interest of present active members of this forum to "get behind" and support N3V in their renewed endeavours on the android platform as that would be to the benefit of all versions of the simulator. In the foregoing it is worth bearing in mind that nine out of every ten smartphones sold worldwide operate on the android platform. Therefore, there is a huge market out there to be found in a new version of Trainz on that platform which would help ensure the future of the PC version to which so many are committed on this forum.

Trainz has become boring for me. I still play and browse but not as regular, and it is getting less.
for me - please get the great routes like Tidewater North, Rollins Pass, Northbay County etc back and into T:ANE and all the great assets that go with those great routes .
TS12 is great, T:ANE is good but it would have been greater to fix the problems like stuttering and taking ages to open .
Then I will spend more money to buy these items repaired for T:ANE.
MHO.

Hallo ekankal

Not sure what you are talking about. Do you mean the number of members currently logged in or is there another statistic?

Cheers

AJ

... but i fail to see how the number of persons visiting any topic or product forum cannot be an indication of the level of interest in that topic or product.

Because of the silent caveat 'All other things being equal'. Which, of course, they aren't. The number and variety of ways of socialising over the internet has grown massively over the years, and for many people forums are considered old fashioned. YouTube, in particular. is attracting a lot of Trainz enthusiasts, but facebook pages have also grown, as well as private blogs for smaller groups.

If you judge by one social media format you are going to be misled. You have to consider all the forms that are available to people.

I think most of you have missed Eric's question he wanted to know what is required to be counted as an active member.
Cheers Mick.

Pretty much what I said, in more detail. To be perfectly honest, I don't come into the Trainz forum at all anymore. Just to check up on some things and post problems I have. And comment on this. :hehe:

Now gone up again to 2008. Looks like it is a daily figure. Whatever, it has no relevance to how many people are actually using Trainz, it just shows how many people haven't got anything better to do than lurk on a forum finding things to speculate over. ;)
