Trainz Model Railroad 2017 is officially released

@Tony,

I do not have the same problem as NSWGR-46Class. That is, I can download from within my copy of TMR17. I am considering going for the full download, but I have two questions:

1) Do I have to get rid of my current (85103) version of TMR17, and if so, how do I do that?
2) Will 'My Trainz' recognize that I have paid for the program, when I go to download the full program?

Again, Tony, thanks for your help.

Bob Morrison

Well I'm a bit disappointed. I downloaded 10 of philskene's model railroad routes. All were build 4.2 or 4.3. All had missing dependencies and there were some puzzling Faulty assets.

Missing
<kuid:-25:246> Auran
<kuid2:64038:298016:1> jkeenan
<kuid2:60238:37038:2> Vulcan
<kuid2:60238:37037:2> Vulcan

<kuid:52:25810> FMA

Faulty
<kuid:523:10872> SpeedTreeGroup_01 Auran
<kuid:523:1284> Tree HuangshanPine 01 Auran
Edit: It appears that these assets are faulty because <kuid2:523:10872:2> and <kuid2:523:1284:2> are missing

What's up with that?

Edit: Of these ten route I have five installed in TANE 84204 without any missing or faulty assets. To the best of my knowledge I did not download the missing assets from some other source into TANE 84204.

What is up with that?

Edit: All the missing assets are listed as either built-in or payware in TANE 84204. Clearly they should have been included in TMR17 or available for download.

Frankly I don't see how N3V expects to retain new customers with TMR17 when 10 out of 11 downloaded Model Trainz routes fail. One could blame the route author but the assets he used are all built in or payware.

So since downloading Model Trainz routes was an epic fail I thought I'd try downloading M120 modules to see how that went...

Out of the 30 M120 routes available 19 had missing and/or faulty assets. Marginally better. Surprising all 13 of the build 4.4 routes had either missing and/or faulty assets. Edit: The assets "fixed" below brought the number of problem modules down to 13.

Missing

<kuid:523:1597> Tree Gum 06
<kuid:523:1344> Tree WeepingWillow 01
<kuid:523:1457> Tree WeepingWillow 02

Edit: Interesting, the bridge, the gate, and both houses show only warnings when you look at Errors and Warnings yet they are marked as faulty. Clicking on them did not "fix" them as it did in TANE nor did a db repair. However, opening one of them for edit and reverting it to original caused all four to become OK. Weird. The signals all list missing attachment points. Edit: Oddly the signals are error free in TANE, what's up with that?

I installed TMR17 from the offline installer downloaded from the US Mirror. Is there any possibility that this file is bogus? I had no issues with the download, extraction, or installation.

I'll take a look at these assets to see how many are built-in or payware later today.

@normhart,

There are only two of Philskene's routes which were made for TMR17 - The 'Shortz and Kerl' and 'Port Zyd and Fulaztern'. All of his other Model Railroads were constructed in TANE. You might want to check it out.

Bob

That makes no sense. I can understand things made in TMR17 build 4.4 not being compatible with TANE build 4.3 but the other way around? That's nutz.

It would seem to imply that a lot of things in TANE build 4.3 will not be compatible with TANE build 4.4.

It is still silly that model railroad routes on the DLS constructed in TANE are not compatible with TMR17. Oh well, if it becomes important to me I'll just strip the assets and import them manually. Virtual model trains really aren't that interesting to me, I guess I'll just dump the whole thing.

Surely you are not telling me that model railroads made in TANE are not compatible with TMR17?
Norm, I looked around a lot earlier this morning when I finally opened the 15th anniversary email from N3V. I was trying to see if the 20$ discount I got was only for TMT17 - which it is -and whether I might reconsider my thoughts on waiting for TANE sp2 or going with TMR17 now.

Somewhere in my travels around the website and store I definitely read that you can import TMR17 routes into TANE sp2 when it arrives early next year but you can't import TANE sp2 routes into TMR17. Any attempt trying that with TANE Sp1 is probably pointless IMHO. I'll try to dig up the link - I seem to recall it was in the description on the store.

Was too easy here it - last line is what you need to know:
* INFORMATION FOR EXISTING TRAINZ OWNERS:

This stand-alone version of TMR is trainz-build 4.4 and roughly equivalent to "Trainz A New Era SP1" feature set (with some additional features added and of course a completely different set of content).

Your existing Trainz DLC items will work in TMR17 beginning Dec 10.

Purchasers of this version of TMR17 also receive the same content set as DLC for TANE.

Routes saved in TMR 2017 can be imported into TANE SP2 (trainz-build 4.5) but not vice versa.

The fact that you can download routes constructed in TANE (and prior?) off the DLS into TMR17 [edit] with missing content that is part of TANE sp1 is disconcerting. Most of the current "MR" routes made for Trainz are for TS12 or TANE so there will be a lot of this attempted.

I can see your frustration. We need some clarification on this from N3V.

Problem being TS12 MR routes will more than likely contain TANE only builtin content which is probably not going to be in TMR17, it does state different content set so people need to think before blindly downloading stuff that although Model Railway is not build 4.4 as it probably won't work.

Yet another case of be careful what you wish for. I'm keeping well away from it as Model Railways isn't what I use Trainz for.

Hey Malc,

Your post, sir, got me confuse ... maybe I'm mixing apples and oranges here, but here it goes:

Ok, here's a scenario: TANE SP2 is release -- I update TANE, and now it's SP2, compatible with TMR17 ... now my question is ... will TMR17 installed into TANE SP2 be the same product which it is now... the stand-alone TMR17???

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Ish

As far as I can tell if you have both then probably TANE SP2 may add the TMR stuff, as it we haven't got SP2 yet best people to ask are N3V.
If you don't have both and just TANE SP2 then you won't have the TMR stuff unless you buy it as DLC, it will be normal content TANE.

All the routes in TMR 17 were built using TANE.

There may be some minor problems of compatibility until TANE SP2 is available due to the way that versioning works.

This is what I am looking for ... thanks!!

And it's why waiting for SP2 ...

To be honest, Guys, not really a fan of TMR17, but mainly supporting N3V more then anything else! I like the way Tony runs the company these days, which is with a very transparent; And putting time and effect to answer questions and help folks, so if I have the money available why not ....

It's pulling teeth if anyone at EA helps you out like this from an executive point of view!

It's just how I feel!!!

Thanks again guys
Ish

One positive about this, you can save during a session and there is no redbug, unlike TANE.

Edit: Another positive, they appear to have fixed the sign bug

In TANE half of these would be blank

Edit2: Now this is very cool, not sure it is necessary or desireable but it is very cool.

Not sure you can see it in the screenie but the three green bars show the amount of water, fuel, and something else available at that location. The single green bar above the steam locomotive shows the water being added, the number is actually tracking the load. Very cool.

Tony:
1. Are routes from Trainz 10 and A New Era usable with TMR 2017?
2. Can older Routes and other assets be added from the DLS or private CDP files?
Irving

To clarify further - TMR is trainzbuild 4.4. Older content (TS12 is 3.7 and TANE SP1 4.3) will work.

The issue you will run into is builtin content that is not yet on the DLS. We are working on a solution to this (among other things).
