Benchmarking your PC... let's see what you got!

I had a 770gtx, but it died. was hoping it would last a few weeks. The 1050ti is so I can get some graphics work projects done and sent since they are on a deadline. It was in stock locally, so it worked, pretty sure it will find its way over to dad's house so he can improve his Trainz experience. We are heading to visit some friends over the holidays and they live about 5 mins from a microcenter, so it will be play time then.

Since space is a tight fit in the m-itx case, researching which route I will go, more than likely, I will taking the 1070ti from my sim racing pc and putting that into this and then getting a 1080ti for the sim racing pc. The sim pc is pretty close to the same spec except for the 8086 CPU and Asus hero x mobo. Thought about moving the sim pc to a 2070/2080 series GPU, but after some of the other racers reviews on it, I doubt I will head that direction.

WD is usb 3, keep a backup copy of graphics work on it.

The PNY SDD is where I keep Trainz, basically on its own drive.

The GTX 1070Ti will make an immediate - and significant - improvement in your gaming score.
More importantly, it will hugely improve your attainable and sustainable framerates in TRS2019.
Nice that you can find a deserving home for your GTX 1050Ti.
Have you been able to wring a few more GHz out of your i7 8086 compared to the 8700k?
I toyed with buying one at the time I purchased the 8700k, but the reviews (and the significant price premium at the time) dissuaded me.

haven't pushed the 8086k yet, stock is 4ghz, it's running slightly over that now, with triple 27" monitors I am running iRacing 120 fps+ with everything on. I am sure at some point I will mess with it, but with those fps and never running 40c on anything, not sure it's really needed yet. Microcenter here is awesome, i was able to snag the 8086k for about $350, plus getting the mobo at the same time got another $30 off.

I need to pull the fps from the 1050ti in Trainz, little so far I have been to able to mess with it, its been pretty solid, but a great picture compared to the gaming laptop, but that was showing its age lately.

TINE - one of the best results I've seen yet for the GTX 1080!

Was it overclocked for that benchmark?

It was ---> But I am not sure if the overclock (30%) can account for that much performance, but the fact that I also have SLI might.

Stock speed: Core / Shader / Memory
  • Speed: 1,683MHz / 4,201MHz / 1,251MHz

I also have 2 of them in SLI.
I am guessing their gpu tester can't tell between sli and single. (if so, super cheat! they need to get a better gpu tester)

And in TANE too. But TANE is damn greedy, even my overclocked sli'd gpu's cry for mercy in tane when graphics are set to max.
Heres a gif showing SLI GTX 1080 oc 35-40 fps @ 2560 x 1440, gpu use 70-80%

If you would like to try to optimize your systems graphic card, you can see my blog on these forums.
https://forums.auran.com/trainz/entry.php?1636-Free-system-benchmarks

Specifically the part about using nvidia inspector to put TANE into the profile of GTA5.
Also I show how to use MSI afterburner to CLOCK LOCK your gpu, which helps it be a bit more stable.

I was able to get a better score in SUPERPOSITION using the techniques in the above blog.
My 2gpu Unigine Superposition - 1080P Xtreme Global rank: 26th out of 96

Just finished an upgrade to my TRS19 rig:

UserBenchmarks: Game 140%, Desk 152%, Work 144%
CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K - 126%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti - 159.7%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 250GB - 257.9%
SSD: Samsung 950 NVMe PCIe M.2 512GB - 287.4%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 1TB - 126.7%
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 111%
RAM: Patriot 3866 C18 Series 2x8GB - 73.8%
MBD: Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI)

UserBenchmarks don't have enough comparisons for the Patriot 3866 C18 Series - I think they're guessing.

Now for some system tuning and maybe OC.
Seems to run TRS19 OK:eek:.

UserBenchmarks: Game 143%, Desk 151%, Work 147%
CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K - 121.5%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti - 169.7%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 250GB - 262.8%
SSD: Samsung 950 NVMe PCIe M.2 512GB - 288.7%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 1TB - 127.4%
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 114.1%

Fixed the ram problem - not UserBenchmarks fault, my incorrect setup parms.

Not as good as the big hitters above, but I've just added a GTX 1660Ti to one of my rigs...

UserBenchmarks: Game 86%, Desk 67%, Work 66%
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700 - 95.2%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660-Ti - 91.3%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti - 37.6%

HDD: Hitachi HTS545025B9A300 250GB - 43.5%
HDD: Seagate Expansion 1TB - 52%

Is this <www.userbenchmark.com> a safe site? Is it gathering personal information whilst going through the benchmarking process?

I have used this site and posted results in this thread but I have misgivings, do I trust its security and integrity - if any?

robd - Here's their Privacy notice, which outlines what they collect. https://www.userbenchmark.com/page/privacy
They describe themselves as 'being run by a company of hardcore geeks' and providing a service involving 'topnotch research into tens of thousands of PC components'.
Reckon the risk of using their services is slight compared to the value of the actionable feedback they provide to people who submit their rigs for comparison/ benchmark runs.
I've acted on mine to build better, faster performing gaming computers.

If you're happy with that then so be it for you, that's entirely your own choice, I remain unconvinced.

Can you verify or prove your opinion? I can't do that for my thoughts on this, thus, as I say, I remain unconvinced.

Take it that you don't use Facebook either for the same reasons, Rob?
In the light of the Cambridge Analytics saga, it pays to be super-cautious.
With just one exception, I have submitted benchmarks to 'userbenchmarks' from newly-built machines containing zero personal data at the time of submission. ('First boot/ first light').
The exception was from my then-production machine upon discovery of the website and my interest in how it performed.
Their claim to collect only anonymised data was sufficient at that time for me.
But as you say, it's entirely a personal choice.

My benchmark:

UserBenchmarks: Game 87%, Desk 77%, Work 63%
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 - 75.2%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 - 92.3%
SSD: Intel 600p Series NVMe PCIe M.2 256GB - 118%
SSD: HyperX Savage 240GB - 96.9%
HDD: WD Black 1TB (2013) - 93.5%
USB: Seagate Backup+ Hub BK 8TB - 57.9%
USB: Seagate Backup+ Hub BK 8TB - 69.4%
USB: WD Elements 107C 4TB - 40%
RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR4 2666 C13 2x8GB - 75.2%
MBD: Asus Z170-E

Actually, somewhat disappointed by this. The GTX 1070 performance - at 92.3% - is described as "performing way below expectations" compared to the average of 98%. This is borne out by relatively below par frame rates (in the 20-25 fps range) on my routes.

Any suggestion as to what might be throttling my GPU performance?

Paul
