Because most of these Rts have Electrification for Locomotives and different types of Signaling systems, is the variety of Routes on DSL and Trainz Store, I suppose you would say, a curiosity factor entertains the thought of how different Train Systems work in other parts of the World. And me of course, a Tinkerer of sorts, I learn this way, gives me a wider range of acumen. And it is just plain fun, to strain the old Brain to figure out the mechanical puzzles. As well, I enjoy learning how each person creates there Route.

One of these Routes:Rodnye Prostory - SND I took some Pics to share:

Dropped in some Consists so I could see how this Route runs.

Rte has excellent Signaling too.....Need to add a few more signals on some switch areas.

Needed to shove these consists in the hole (end point of the Route, for Hot Psgr Trainz lined up for Station Service.

Overhead Electrification is very nice,,,,Well Done along with great Coloring of Textures......Very realistic!

Three legged Xing, and they work perfectly......

I can't pronounce the name here, but some of you probably know where this is.......

In this episode we are at the area where CP rail used to add extra power to trains going up the steep 2.5% grade up Rogers Pass. The Rogers Pusher Station located here was a busy place back in the 1900s-1980s Without the pushers trains would not have made the trip up this 10+ mile long grade to the top.

Two K-36 Mikado steam locomotives powered the rotary up the 4% grade in an all-steam extravaganza!

4K CABVIEW: Plow season is on with snow drifts on the mountain pass! https://youtu.be/YM2sYLSMeQo

Feb 18, 2022 Finally the plow season is on with snow drifts on the mountain pass! For each year there is less snow on the mountain pass and therefore there is less chance of videos like "Extreme winter conditions on the mountain pass" (https://youtu.be/MLJQKaoPHGs), but this year it looks like we're getting there! Finally!

We're going from sea level in Bergen over the mountain pass through Finse at 1222m above sea level. The highest point of the Bergen Line is in the Finse tunnel at 1237m above sea level. You can hear me honk like a monkey there.Finse is also the threshold for two weather systems and it’s usually here you’ll see the stark difference in the weather between western Norway and eastern Norway.I’ve added some photos to this video of the train at Mjølfjell and at Geilo. Mjølfjell and Geilo is considered the beginning and the end of the mountain pass.
And sorry about the whiteouts exiting the tunnels, it seems that the latest update to the camera has slowed it's exposure adjustment.

Check out the chapters below for interesting points during the travel marked with "❗".

Aftermath Of BNSF Train Derailment In Dakota City, NE After Striking Truck

https://youtu.be/kzyijuToBzU

Jul 9, 2021
I apologize for dirty windshield and quick panning and zooming. Was sitting there about 10 hours during the whole process recording on and off and was hot outside. Don’t worry I wasn’t in the way I spoke to the workers off camera and most knew me from before and they were all polite and ok with me parked where I was. The process took way longer then it looks but I was facing a straight track that goes from Dakota City to Homer, Nebraska which is about 4 miles apart but I was a few crossings away from the actual road with impact and wasn't expecting this to happen. The collision was a truck carrying a massive cat bulldozer and the driver tried to beat the train. It happened out of sight while checking my phone but my scanner revealed there was an accident and derailment. The video shown is the aftermath as they fix the damaged rails and re-rail the few of what was part of the manifest. Thanks for watching!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok that'll do for today, thank you for coming by....Peace and good health.!

Good afternoon Blue, what a surprise about your Iberian route.
Two questions: Have you uploaded it to DLS? Are you going to post screenshots?

On the other hand, I want to show you my future American passenger cars, although there is still a lot of work to do.

Cheers

NG & Lake Tahoe / Y Tube Pics

Good Saturday All,

Over the last week, reviewing some of my Route Downloads, I got interested in NG ones, especially one's from the old times and had read some stories about Lumber and Mining RR's in 1800's that were on or somewhat near the Lake Tahoe mountain areas. It brings to thought, how in the heck, in some unreal impossible areas Geologically speaking they were able to make these NG Routes to haul supplies/commodities out of such rugged and nearly impassible areas.

Pasted some interesting Photos and Stories about this area:

AND:

Lake Tahoe Railroads project

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carson_and_Tahoe_Lumber_and_Fluming_Company

The Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming Company (C&TL&F) was formed to move lumber from trees growing along the shore of Lake Tahoe to the silver mines of the Comstock Lode. Between 1872 and 1898 C&TL&F transferred 750 million board foot of lumber logged from 80,000 acres (32,000 ha) of virgin timberland.

McCloud River Railroad : Along the Line

Great Northern's Hambone Branch

http://mccloudriverrailroad.com/AlongTheLine/GNHamboneBranch.jpg1

The lumber company initially built the first parts of this line in the early 1920s, first as log spurs into the Red River timber tract purchased in 1919 and then the mainline built to tap the U.S. Forest Service Lava Beds timber sale in the Porcupine Butte area. All of those spurs would have been abandoned by the middle 1920s. Then, in 1928 the lumber company purchased the harvesting rights to Red River's 82,000 acre White Horse Tract, mostly located in southwestern Modoc county. This sale neatly bridged the eastern end of McCloud's operating area with the projected alignment of the Great Northern-Western Pacific line between Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Keddie, California, and within weeks of the sale announcement GN leased track materials to the lumber company for use in building their mainline from the eastern end of the McCloud River Railroad to GN's planned route, along with a ten year option to purchase the line. The McCloud River Lumber Company built the Hambone to White Horse stretch between 1928 and early 1929, mostly on existing logging railroad grades to the Porcupine area and then on new construction beyond that, and then completed the White Horse to Lookout Junction section in July and August 1930. The steel gangs finished the line on 25 August 1930.

http://mccloudriverrailroad.com/Miscellaneous/LookoutTrackwork.htm

Skyrocketing demand for railcar storage in the face of present economic conditions caused BNSF to send a tie gang to the remnant of what used to be their Hambone Branch. BNSF kept about the first five and a half miles of the line running west from Lookout Junction but classified as industrial trackage when they abandoned the rest of the branch in the early 2000s, and it has sat idle since. The track crews commenced work in June 2020 and are replacing ties, clearing brush, repairing broken rail joints, and doing other work to prepare the line for car storage. http://mccloudriverrailroad.com/Miscellaneous/ScrapTrainatCayton.htm

The scrapper is loading rails removed from the line at Bartle, with the railroad making one or two trips a week out to Bartle to deliver empty and pull loaded gondolas. These photos show gondolas in the siding and some of the salvage contractor trucks. All are by Jeff Moore.

http://mccloudriverrailroad.com/Miscellaneous/July2009Update.htm

The contractor scrapping the railroad paused for a few weeks in the fall of 2008, reportedly while negotiating to purchase the rest of the railroad. After the negotiations fell through, the scrapper picked up all remaining rails east of McCloud, with the work completed before snow would have shut the job down. Contractors are now busy removing the ties and other hardware from the right-of-way. All photos on this page are by and courtesy of Lee Christopher.

https://www.psvrr.org/about/southern-pacific-placerville-branch/

The branch’s story begins in the 1850s, when California was in the midst of the Gold Rush. Construction on the Sacramento Valley Railroad (of 1852) began in Sacramento in February 1855, and the line reached Folsom in January 1856.

The Train that Makes Your Drink Cartons and Bath Salts: Serving Customers in the Blue Ridges
https://youtu.be/w1VbN1-1YfQ

The Murphy Branch arguably has the craziest track profile in all of North America, including the steepest continuous mainline grades over two mountain passes. While nearby Saluda gets all the fame, it's nothing to compare against the unforgiving terrain the Western North Carolina Railroad tried to lay rails over in the late 19th century to serve the lumber industry, eventually becoming part of the Southern Railway.

Today the wood industry is still alive, but for turning chips into paper and packaging products. After Norfolk Southern sold their freight operations in 2014, WATCO purchased the line and created the Blue Ridge Southern Railroad, serving the mill town of Canton, and other smaller customers deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

On a visit to the Blue Ridges in January 2020 amidst snow flurries, we'll follow BLU train T59 serving Evergreen Packaging, as well as a chemical plant in Waynesville producing a variety of Epsom Salts for personal care or agricultural use.

That's a rap for today....Hope you enjoy........

Sao Miguel Azores Island Landscape routes Part II

Javier here is the Pics from the Route......

I got this from the Web so I can tell where I am laying tracks.....And I visited this Island for about 8 hrs on a Cruise....It was very interesting and beautiful Greenery too......

And here is another one that shows the elevation nicely!

Nice DEM Rte .and my computer just barely gets by on this one.....

Rogue Foreign found on one of the mainlines.......Hmmmmm! Don't know how he got here....

Yellow Mkup is old Line @ 15% downgrade....So I dropped in a very curvy line to change the elevation @ max 3.8% downgrade.

Looking the ground here, I think there is too much unevenness here so I will smooth all the hardscape down, take a lot of time....But I think this style of ground effect works the GPU to the extreme?

Mtn's look great, they sit at 230-250 Game Feet high......Very nice DEM Rte......

Nice Volcanic Lake here, the end of the Railroad Line was in already.....Will see what I do with the DEM areas, lots of area to build on, however with huge amount of Tiles, I have to balance it with not too much density? Your Mileage will very of course.

View of the Ocean from high atop the Mountain....Again look at the Grid Floor here, it is really mottled looking, so I need to bring in the Ground Smoother here......Shave off some high spots.

This part of the Route came with Rail Lines in ....Passenger is just laying close to track, not installed yet.

Sao Miguel Island Portugal / Rodnye Prostory - SND / Y Tube Selections

Good Friday Morning All,

Been a busy week, weather has been Cold, but with Rains this set the Fruit on Trees this year, and things should be tasty in that respect. Colder the Winter the better tasting Fruit you'll have!

Now to Trainz, been busy fooling around with Sao Miguel DEM Route, have lots to discuss and share on this interesting DEM Rte. in upcoming posts.

Sao Miguel Island Dem Rte....Adding a Tunnel here, overhead view......Grade is high, so we had to cut some short tunnels here and there to make it work.

Using Wire Mode here to set my Grade more level, from 6% to 3.5%......

Looking again in Wire Mode, we have a nice transition in Grade from lower to higher Elevation......

Rodnye Prostory (Russian) below nice Electrification Assets shown.....Realistic

I like this older Route it is helping to learn about International Electrified Lines.....Very interesting to see how different it is among world wide RR's

Old Cars and Locos setting on the side, they do work......When needed.

One Red Light to the Rear? Not sure if other one is burned out....Need to open this Asset and inspect for Corona Missing or failure of some sort?

Pretty Cool inside this Cab. Lots of nice detail......Look at all the Switches to make this baby run.......!

Green Signal Lights shows upcoming Signals on Rails, and it does Work too!

Look out! Red Light coming up. prepare to stop short of the Signal.......!!!

This Route has Water Ocean areas very nice Route.........Fun to run on......

VINTAGE ALCO RSD1 (OERM 1956) Startup and MORE at the Southern California Railway Museum

https://youtu.be/whFm0JiYM04

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the Southern California Railway Museum (formerly the Orange Empire Railway Museum). Originally, interurban car PE 418 was supposed to run, but it was damaged in an unspecified accident weeks before and was still being repaired. The museum substituted it with OERM 1956, an ALCO RSD-1 from the early 1940s. See a 1939 EMC SW1 in action, a snapshot of Southern California transit history, and more! Watch the video to learn more about these pieces of living railroad history!

A bit more on the intriguing history of the ALCO RSD-1:

OERM 1956 was originally built in April of 1941 as an RS-1 for the Tennessee Coal and Iron Railroad Co. (TCI 601), but was never delivered in its intended configuration. It was the beginning of WWII and the U.S. was looking to aid the USSR in their battle to fend off Nazi Germany by strengthening supply chains to the Eastern Front. In other words, the U.S. was going to supply additional locomotives to help transport goods to and from the USSR. The U.S. Army Transportation Corps requisitioned the first 13 ALCO RS-1's ever built (this one included) and rebuilt them as RSD-1's by 1942. This meant swapping 2-axle trucks for 3-axle ones with better weight distribution and higher tractive effort for service on poorly maintained track through rugged terrain. Additionally, the cab walls were sloped inwards so the locomotives would fit through tighter European clearances.

St Croix Valley Railroad with SD45 Flair and a GP9 -Leslie RS5T horn- SCXY

eb 13, 2023 #diesel #train #railway The Saint Croix Valley Railroad is a short line in Minnesota, known for having its locomotives painted in Northern Pacific inspired colors, and running on the former NP main. In the past few years things have changed due to losing a key customer, and a drop in the sand business. Most of the moves are tied to propane and car storage, while serving a handful of customers. In this video, we'll chase a train south of Hinckley, following the line south to Rush City, and eventually to North Branch. Along the way, the drone will give us a unique views of the railroad, in places such as Mission Creek and Harris. The lead unit, 1326, has a VERY nice Leslie RS5T horn, which we'll hear a lot in this video. The latter half has their GP9 working, and making some nice noise as it pulls a mile long train to the end of the line.

Ok Folks, that's a wrap for today....Hope you enjoy.....

Hi Blue! Great stuff as always! It will be fun to follow your progress on Sao Miguel Island, and I have Rodnye Prostory noted for download. I was curious about the Saint Croix Valley Railroad, but your links (#diesel, #train, #railway) just seem to go to pages of videos? I didn't try to sort through them all. Is it the Osceola & Saint Croix Valley Railway? I did manage to google a couple of great videos of that. Anyway, thanks again for keeping me up to date on what is available out there!

Here you go my friend,

I mucked it up, and didn't put the correct link, I literately awoke at 5:00AM , and don't laugh, my first thoughts of the day was to get some Photo and Videos up for the group.

Here is the proper Link and Wiki info on Osceola & Saint Croix Valley Railroad.

St. Croix Valley Railroad

Route map of the St. Croix Valley Railroad. Red line is cur
Overview
The St. Croix Valley Railroad (reporting mark SCXY) is a Class III short line railroad that operates over 36 miles (58 kilometers) of track in eastern Minnesota. The railroad is owned by KBN Incorporated jointly between Independent Locomotive Service of Bethel MN and Midwest Locomotive Services of Atwater MN, with the railroad headquartered in Rush City, Minnesota.
As of 2008, the St. Croix Valley Railroad handled approximately 3,700 carloads per year. The primary commodities hauled included, chemicals, grain, flour, sand and fertilizers. As of 2014, The St. Croix Valley handled Approximately 16,000 car loads.
The St. Croix Valley Railroad interchanges with the BNSF Railway in Hinckley, Minnesota.
History
The St. Croix Valley Railroad was created in September 1997 when the railroad’s former owner, Rail America Incorporated, purchased two segments of track in eastern Minnesota from the BNSF Railway. Also included in the sale were 8 miles (13 kilometers) of trackage rights on the BNSF Hinckley Subdivision between Hinckley, Minnesota and Brook Park, Minnesota.
The two segments of track initially acquired by the St. Croix Valley Railroad included the 36 mile (58 kilometer) Amber Subdivision between Hinckley, Minnesota and North Branch, Minnesota and an 11-mile (18 kilometer) spur of the Hinckley Subdivision between Brook Park, Minnesota and Mora, Minnesota.
Before the BNSF Railway gained ownership of the portion of the Amber Subdivision subsequently sold to the St. Croix Valley Railroad, the line was owned by the Burlington Northern Railroad. Before that, it was owned by the Northern Pacific Railway and formed that railroad’s so-called "Skally Line" from St. Paul, Minnesota to Duluth, Minnesota. This line was originally built as the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad, later the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad. The Great Northern Railway, however, also had tracks that followed roughly the same route. When both the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railway merged to form the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970, the "Skally Line" became redundant and portions of it slowly became abandoned. Along with the segment operated by the St. Croix Valley Railroad, the only other portions that remain today are small pieces near St. Paul, Minnesota (currently operated by the Minnesota Commercial Railway) and Duluth, Minnesota (currently operated by the BNSF Railway). The abandoned portions of the route have been converted to rail trails: the Willard Munger State Trail (also known as Hinckley Fire Trail) between Hinckley and Duluth, and the Hardwood Creek Trail and Sunrise Prairie Trail between North Branch and Hugo.
The 11 mile (18 kilometer) spur sold by the BNSF Railway to the St. Croix Valley Railroad was also formerly owned by the Burlington Northern Railroad. Before that, it was owned by the Great Northern Railway and formed a line that went from Brook Park, Minnesota to St. Cloud, Minnesota.
In March 2003, unsafe track conditions that led to an embargo on all traffic caused the St. Croix Valley Railroad to abandon its line from Brook Park to Mora. The St. Croix Valley still retains its trackage rights to Brook Park MN.

Cutting the Grades in for San Miguel Island ? Y Tube Pics

A Blessed ASH Wednesday to all,

Well our 21yr old Washer decided during a Rinse Cycle it was going on permanent no more work status! Imagine that, actually we are very grateful, that is a good time for a hard working machine.....So I dropped in for min to Post more Pics of Sao Miguel Island. Between some Faulty Asset Downloads, doing DBR's I have been re sculpting the Mountain's to reduce the 11%-17% grades down to a more manageable 3%-4.12% grade. I think my Steam Engine can pull a lot more Passengers Cars up the hill, and our RR can make more money too!

Leaving off our Spur here to head up to one of the Volcanic Lakes up high in the Mountains.

Ocean View and some of our new Track Grades going up in the Mountains today. Look hard but you will see our little Train in the Vast Mountain area here....

Brand new Bridge here, when it Rains, it pores in torrents.

I completely changed the original Track Route here, it used to be 17%., if you look at my Grade now, it markedly improved......

Dropped in a Older Bridge here, I think it will work nicely and it supports plenty of weight too.....We are going to have lots of Freight going up this line when I finish what I am doing.....

Train is in a deep Trench here, I thought I would make a Tunnel out of this, but since changed my mind, you'll see the changes in later Postings....As Progress continues.

Looking from now Dry Riverbed, our Steamer has full power engaged going up this 1.22% Grade, unfortunately, and it is not correct, shows 5.42% Grade, I checked it already, is 4% max....Don't know why Trainz gets these Grade % wrong.....Drives me Bat Wings!!!

Stopped for a minute to view the Ocean way below us.....We are not even 1/2 way up here......

Entering a new 2 mile or so Tunnel.......And I made it Double Track, don't want an issue with Steam Locomotive getting stuck on one Track......Would be dangerous for all concerned.....

Bit of Y Tube Pics for you:

Short Story of Youngstown & Southeastern AKA YSRR

Good Day all,

We got a good Dose of Rain and Snow for our Drought stricken state. Winter despite a few warm days, is back in control, and I love it. And we found a new Washer to replace our 21 yr old one.

While all this is going on, I found an interesting picture, you need to see to believe this one. Lets take a memory lane tour over to:?

And I would counter here, is this any way to run a RR? I'll let you decide. :hehe:

Here is the back story:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youngstown_and_Southeastern_Railroad (Blue says! This is unbelievable what happened to this little RR)

The Youngstown and Southeastern Railroad (reporting mark YSRR) is a short-line railroad subsidiary of Midwest & Bluegrass Rail that operates freight trains between Youngstown, Ohio and Darlington, Pennsylvania, United States. The line is owned by the Columbiana County Port Authority, leased to the Eastern States Railroad, which is owned by the line's primary shipper, and contracted out to the YSRR. Freight is interchanged with CSX Transportation and the Norfolk Southern Railway at the Youngstown end.

The trackage was originally owned by the Youngstown and Southern Railway (reporting mark YS), which operated from 1904 to 1993, including a period as an electric interurban passenger railway between 1907 and 1948, being the last such line in Ohio.[2] It was later jointly owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad and Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. After a local company bought the line in November 1996 and illegally closed it and blocked repairs,[3][4] the line was out of service for almost five years until the Central Columbiana and Pennsylvania Railway (reporting mark CQPA) began operations in May 2001.[5] Service under the YSRR name started in 2006, after the second of two less-than-two-year periods of operation by the Ohio Central Railroad System component Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad (reporting mark OHPA) (the first was in 1995 and 1996). The Indiana Boxcar Corporation then owned the line until 2019.

North Judson Completes Rail Line Sale
May 6, 2021

An Indiana city has completed the sale of a short line railroad to Midwest & Bluegrass Rail.

The short line hold company purchased the 33-mile line, which North Judson had owned for 17 years.

The town had purchased the former Chesapeake & Ohio line years earlier when CSX sought to abandon it.

The town council and redevelopment commission approved creation of a redevelopment commission fund to handle the money resulting from the sale.

M&B subsidiary Cheaspeake & Indiana was already the line’s freight operator. A tourist train operation also uses a portion of the line

The winning bid of $2.725 million was the highest of three submitted.

Indiana Town Selling Rail Line
January 20, 2021

An Indiana town will sell a rail line that it owns to Midwest & Bluegrass Rail.

M&B already provides freight service on the line through its subsidiary Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad, which it acquired in 2020.

The city of North Judson has owned the rail line for nearly 17 years. The sale is expected to close within 60 days.

M&B was the highest of three bidders for the line, offering $2.7 million.

News reports indicate that M&B has a working relationship with the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, which operates over a portion of the line.

The sale agreement granted the museum a 10-year extension of its current operating agreement, as well as the right of first refusal to purchase its portion of the route should M&B choose to sell.

3 Vie to Buy Indiana Short Line
January 7, 2021

Three companies are seeking to buy an Indiana short line railroad owned by the city of North Judson.

One of the bidders, Midwest & Bluegrass Rail, has offered $2,725,000 for the 33-mile rail line, which also is used by the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum.

M&B already operates the line as part of its acquisition of the Chesapeake & Indiana, one of four short lines it acquired in 2020.

Other bidders are only interested in the portion of the line used for freight traffic.

They include $2.3 million from agricultural co-op Co-Alliance and $1.6 million from Columbia Rail, which operates three short lines and rail terminal services at two sites in Washington state.

The town’s redevelopment commission is expected to the bids at a closed-door meeting next week.

No YTube today, I just thought the above coming from a crazy looking Freight Train Picture was pure interesting in Ripley's believe it or not realm of possibilities!

Stay dry, stay safe, above all, stay healthy, I bid all of you a nice weekend. While we Storm and Snow it up till Sun

Thanks for the shot and the info, Blue! I am curious how long that cut is that the train is running through. And I look and see the old tires and other trash down there and think that could be a real hazard if people are dumping into the cut! Just the leaves down there in the fall could create some wheelslip!
