Can you guess the next key feature for Trainz?

A joke Bill :), surely you're not past a bit of good old fashioned British leg pulling :(.

I apologise itareus, I did not realize you where joking:eek:.As i have always respected your postings here is a challenge. In five words do you think i am right.:)

Is this the new direction?

If Trainz ever goes down the dumbed-down, lousy-graphics, unmoddable, freemium route that is the mobile gaming market, I'll stick with my "geeky" old versions of Trainz.

And I've spent less on new hardware in the last four years than many (if not the vast majority) of smartphone owners have during the same period of time.
Agreed. I have a feeling that some things cannot be dumbed down and still be expected to perform at the level everyone wants. That's like wanting to fly a high performance airplane but not wanting to learn how to do it by. Some thing just need to be learned, otherwise you're just a passenger. Trainz Driver comes to mind

In five words Bill:

"Yes and No"

And just to use the other two words :p:

Certainly the diversification into Android and 'i' operating systems has proved worthwhile by broadening the user base and bringing in some extra revenue. I'm making an educated guess that re-writing the old Jet Code into TANE engine code will have made such diversification easier (same code base ports to many platforms). I'm sure there are still good commercial reasons to continue on that path.

I bought one of the early 'full' versions of TS for Android but basically found it unusable on a 10" Samsung tablet for anything other than casual driving - but then, personally, I'm no fan of touch screens.

You have been around the Trainz scene for a long while now Bill and inevitably will have found your comfort zone in a pre TANE version (it's human nature) so why not just stick to that for your personal use ? Nobody is asking you to move to TANE - indeed I was very comfortable with content creation in TS12 and am now faced with new challenges in TANE :( but I think the effort will be worth it for the improved visuals & performance in TANE.

So, in summary and in 5 words:

"TANE plus variations equals happiness"

(Maybe :))

There is much I can agree with in your above posting Chris especially in regards to the current version of Trainz on Android as it has not been updated in any way for approximately 3 years I believe. It would seem that the N3V management think that android users very much want something for nothing, that is certainly not so with many of us.

That said, trainz will never be a great application on a 5 inch screen. However, the introduction of android laptops and even perhaps a desktop will very much change the scene for simulation gaming products on that platform. It would certainly seem that Dovetail Games are moving in that direction in their tie-up with the mad Catz organisation who specialise in mobile gaming. Their takeover of the Microsoft flight simulator would seem to demonstrate that it will be produced on the Windows and Android platforms with no news yet of iPad.

In my humble opinion, if N3V are to move forward they have to follow Dovetail Games and others in bringing forward cross-platform applications so as to engage the widest market possible. It can be argued that they are already in that position, but the mobile platform has very much been treated as the poor relation in the N3V ranking even though it produces the highest revenue for the company.

A new android version for the forthcoming larger screens could be the boost that Trainz needs to widen its appeal to that huge market (thought to be two thirds again larger than the iPad market). Time would be very much on N3V side I feel, as well as no expectations as to what the final product would be.

As you say Chris, for us old hands in trainz there is not any great need to move forward and I find great contentment in using Trainz 10 alongside my new hobby which is within the Google OS platform. However, I would very much like to see a new trainz version on the Google Android platform (not to be confused with Google OS) as my Windows PC is now only used for two applications one being Trainz.

I am unashamedly a Google fan these days as much as I am a Manchester United fan. No one can argue against the fact that since their formation in 1998 Google have not put a foot wrong in becoming the world’s biggest and wealthiest company. Again in my humble opinion if I where the N3V management that is where I would be putting my development money with a good simple straightforward application for that huge market audience.

Continue T:ane yes, but the mobile market through Android needs very much N3V upgraded attention.

I'm not going to argue that an ARM enabled Trainz product might have more appeal based on the platform, because to argue otherwise would be foolish given the market share of specific devices at this time.

However, a version of Trainz built for ARM will never match anything we have now. The performance is not there and won't be for a very long time. It will be a step backwards as far as we are concerned.

Ah, that explains it. Never mind I hear you can get a cream to sort the problem these days :p:eek: !

Cheers

Chris

Dont start me off, just do not start me off. sob, sob, sob, and yet more sobs, millions in uncontrollable grief. This surely is the end of life as we have known it.

I am going to bed now that you have reminded me of the greatest pain in my life. You have just ruined my entire day as a group of us fans on the Man U forum agreed we would not think of our plight until at least Saturday lunchtime. Now you have reminded me of that tragedy,:'(. How will I be able to sleep.:mop:

Can I Guess The Next Big Feature??? No I cannot... But what I would like to see would be more economics and a better AI, something that acts more like a game while keeping the ability to create maps, scenarios, routes... (It would be nice to fix the problems with the last version before attempting to make a new version...like a SP2 would be more welcome than another epic fail version).

I think TS12 is still far better than this new T:ANE... and now you want to create yet another buggy version (why why why why why why...)

Exactly ... Fix T:ANE to what was promised to Kickstrter backers, some of which invested several hundred dollars ... and they got a game that was half finished, and soon will be unsupported ... We all eventually want an SP2 for T:ANE

Trainz is getting to be like buying a lemon automobile: So you bought a Corvair, and it was a piece of junk, so you junked it ... and bought a Pinto, and it was a fire hazzard, so you junked it ... so you bought a Vega and it was another POP, unsafe for the road, so you junked it ... and bought a Gremlin, and it also was a huge POS ... now you are going to have to go out and buy another automobile that was put together with sticky tape, and Bondo ... FIX T:ANE first !

We want T:ANE SP2 and SP3

So I jump into my new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe with a 6.2L V8 640hp with all sorts of new technology that blows my mind... I sit and say WOW, this is really new and improved, the fine leather seats are so comfortable, it's as fast as a Ferrari for a fraction of the cost, and I am truly impressed... Now that may be a hard feat to beat, but it says one thing, the next version should be better than the last, or at least give you that impression, which T:ANE fails on all accounts and needs to be fixed, or the next version will just be another Corvair, Pinto, Vega, Gremlin, POP... I think I'm liking writing this more than playing T:ANE ... LOL :hehe:

I'd like to see AI trains drive on the "right" side of the road dependent on their region without having to set up all sorts of rules and trackmarks and consulting of Ouija boards, especially if they are the only train in the session.

Better detail in instructions or access to existing instructions

A version that helps me loose weight would be good.
Failing that can we please have reference material (wikis or something) that explains how things work/ how to do things in fairly simple language. I look things up only to find there's no information, or it's too obscure and I don't know where to go to try and understand. The manual and top level stuff is ok, but trying to go a bit deeper is difficult. I expect the info is there, but disorganised?
Thanks.

Boy, I second that! I go for months not understanding why something did not work, only to stumble on a post or free-lance website that finally explains it.
