LIRR evening rush hour disrupted by freight derailment in Hicksville

A freight train carrying construction material derailed Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, just west of the Hicksville train station, limiting passenger rail service to one track, authorities said. A freight train carrying construction material derailed just west of the Hicksville train station Tuesday afternoon, wreaking rush-hour havoc as the LIRR canceled a third of eastbound trains and westbound service to Jamaica on three branches .
Two cars at one end of a 16-car westbound train went off the tracks at 1:10 p.m. near the Wantagh State Parkway and have been blocking one of two tracks...
 
As in most cities freight traffic is usually run at night, and not during peak rush hour, or during weekday, daytime passenger operation
