What would be a good replacement cab for the b40-8w because the one on it just doesn't look right to me?

The ATSF C40-8W Cab would be a excellent replacement. Same number size, the same controls mostly. Only thing you need to adjust is the weight.

Adjust the weight? You'd clone the cab shell, naming it B40-8W Shell or whatever, and edit the texture files as appropriate.

no you wouldn't. the weight is added by script from the config of the loco. as long as that weight is correct the expected number will appear on the wall in cab.
