Looking for a fishlipsatwork DEM

jadebullet

might be back?
Hey guys, I am looking for a fishlipsatwork DEM that was hosted on GAURC before the site closed. It is called Scranton, PA. Does anyone have this DEM on their computer that they could pack up and send to me? Thank you.

Edit: The issue has been solved, thank you.

Pity we couldn't have those DEM's put up for grabs sum-where Fishlipsatwork had a heap of great one's that are not on the DLS.
Cheers Mick.

Thanks Chris it was the one's at GUARC i meant mate i knew Lar's had/has them and he doe's show up here now and then.

I think I have 95% of the GAURC ones..... I remember LARS saying he was going to find a home for the ones that used to be on GAURC.....but I haven't heard anything else...

EDIT: here are the ones that used to be on GAURC:

How would one acquire the DEMs for West Virginia? Specifically Kanawha Valley. I'm interested in working on that route.

Thanks,

Regarding fishlipsatwork's many contributions, on the DLS and elsewhere:

I've found these to be invaluable, and really appreciated the effort he and others put into these. Obviously many others have created terrains like this. So here's a plea: If you do create a real-life terrain map with hog textures for roads, tracks, etc. please consider posting the raw map before you start adding your own track, etc. to it. I'm sure there are those that will complain that this will clutter up the DLS, but considering the utter **** being constantly posted (often one-board blank grids with no scenery and one or two tracks somewhere) I think having more real-life terrain maps to choose from would be greatly appreciated.

As a former library worker, I also have to comment on the above statement about a given map only getting two or three downloads. Many of the books in the libraries I've worked in have either never circulated or circulated perhaps once or twice. The point is that they're there when someone does need that one particular piece of information. The DLS certainly qualifies as a library (and an incredible one) so adding your own route contributions would not be a waste regardless of how few downloads might actually take place.

Just my 2 cents' worth,
Lamont

You dont have to pay for uploading and storage out of your own pocket for having books stacked at the library. I had the files uploaded and available to anyone for atleast 18 months. With this few downloads, i didnt see the point of keeping them there.

I still have all of Fishlips terrains safely stored.

Except that I wasn't suggesting that people privately host them. I was suggesting that people that create DEM maps using HOG or TransDEM post the terrain maps with TIGER date to the DLS before starting work on adding track, etc. so that others could use them as starting points as well.

Hi Lars.
I realize this is an old thread but, Requarding fishlips...
Are they still safely stored?

I had asked him about the Northern Pacific route back in the day and he gladly made it but it's been lost for many yrs
from my back-ups and I've been away from Trainz for many yrs. Starting to get into it again and I live smack dab in the middle
of that lay-out (Marysville) and wondered if you still had that route stored away?

Re some of these old dems , just be careful, I started using the mega Colorado one with the uintah map and it had major issues ( freezing , various random problems ) when used in TANE .
Bob Pearson tried to fix it, but I eventually had to make my own after the problems proved to be intractable. It also was up to 10 metres inaccurate in height.
i'm not wanting to disrespect the work done by fishlips, just be aware that there may be issuesin some of them .
