Google Maps Railfanning Section (READ RULES!)

I know its 2012 but none of the links have any of the locos. I think they moved! I'm silly thought it was funny 1 out of 10 links show a loco.

In the grey box on the upper left hand corner, there should be a circle that looks like a clock. Click on that and it will show you another box with a slider. The slider shows you every time that the google car has gone down that street. For example, If the Google Maps car went down Bob's road in 2014, that is what it will show when you go to that road on Google Maps, because it's the most recent. But then the Google car goes over the same road in 2021, It will add the second time the went down it to the slider. And the more they go over the road, the more dots on the slider. Highways have many dots - gravel roads in the middle of nowhere will have one maybe two. So if you can't see a train on a place someone said there was one, move the slider and I bet you'll see a train. You said you were looking at the 2012 submissions and, yeah it makes sense that they have gone over most of the roads and updated them with new pictures - that won't have the trains.

New Streetview shot(s) from Indonesia :

[1] https://goo.gl/maps/EKb6n4tiXfxNbAh17

This March 2022 shot featured CC206 91 of Cirebon locomotive depot leading the empty cement train from Arjawinangun to Karangtalun (the location of PT. Semen Holcim's Cilacap Plant). Although it is an empties, but most of the flat cars are still loaded with pallets and folded tarps, as they're used for transporting cement from the plant to storage site (most of cement transported by cement carrier trains of Indonesian Railways are already packed in the ordinary paper bags, as they were intended to be directly transported to any construction material stores, or even to construction works sites).

[2] https://goo.gl/maps/VXcaZLUYRhyngYuL9

A string of silver-colored tank cars (probably empties) are seen here parked at one of sidings of Rewulu station. This June 2022 shot was taken near the entrance toward Rewulu Freight Car Depot (which is responsible for maintaining all tank cars employed on fuel trains departing from Rewulu station). Most of these tank cars were built in 1965 (already 58 years ago!), but they are still largely used for carrying fuel by rail toward towns still not reached by oil pipes like Madiun, Tegal and Malang.

[3] https://goo.gl/maps/YFLwfygGsjcRmR4m7

This May 2022 shot featured an unknown CC206 locomotive leading a string of fully loaded tank cars into Bumiayu station, as the train proceeds to Tegal Fuel Terminal (located within the area of Larangan station in eastern skirts of Tegal City) for delivering tons of fuel oils (gasoline, diesel fuel etc) from Cilacap Refinery. Due to the collapse of older Dutch-built Glagah River bridge (which serves the downward track) caused by intensive rain back in 2021, there is a single track operation between Bumiayu and Linggapura station, though the new bridge is about to be completed.

Carolina Southern 951 & 950, Baltimore & Annapolis RR 81, Southern 2613 still in southern paint, Atlantic Coast Line 943 in the pink livery, (what i think is) Louisville & Nashville 958, a black engine #2005 and a Norfolk & Western boxcar. You really got to check this place out.

Nice shots! I could not get the Heritage units from Google Earth though. Google Earth just says it failed to fetch startup values. I had hoped I could convert them to Google maps URLs but that did not work either.

Some new shots from South Sumatra :

1. Tanjung Enim Baru

https://goo.gl/maps/NawjF4Un1DpPrSvy5

This September 2022 shot featured CC205 23 (CC205 13 17) and CC205 01 (CC205 11 01) waiting for its turn to pull empty coal cars into loading chute near the station. As there is a mandatory regulation from government for all trains to carry the national flag of Indonesia (Sang Saka Merah Putih) in conjunction with the commemoration of the Day of Independence on August 17th each year, the exact date when this shot was taken is possibly not too far from August, hence the shot shows both CC205 23 and CC205 01 had the national flag still tied on handrails (they would be later removed after entering October).

2. Prabumulih Baru X6

https://goo.gl/maps/DYCJ3VyyVo2VCw3SA

In this July 2022 shot, a pair of CC206 (with the front unit is CC206 114 a.k.a CC206 15 14) is seen here pulling an empty coal train through Prabumulih Baru X6 (one of two signal controller points of Prabumulih triangle; the other is Prabumulih Baru X5) toward one of three stations dedicated for transferring privately-mined coals from heavy trucks to train, which are Sukacinta, Banjarsari and Muara Lawai. As the government of South Sumatra province issued a permanent ban on November 8th, 2018 for all kind of coal carrier trucks from using national road network, privately owned coal mining companies in South Sumatra started to use coal trains operated by Indonesian Railways, which triggered a sharp increase of coal train traffic toward Palembang.

Tangerine, I would love to look at the Vancouver area, as I really like that area and Canadian trains, but for me the Google Earth links do not work. It just opens Google Earth splash screen and says "Failed to Fetch Startup Values". I think that's why most people use Google Maps Street view. I have seen this before when people post from Google Earth. If there is some trick to viewing these I would love to know it.

I got a lot more where these came from, let me know if I should post more.

more good trains

I will get to fixing my account later. Since I am here I can post a few more catches.

to start off, there have been 5/6 up heritage units found. The only one not found Is up 1983, the Western Pacific Heritage unit. Up 1995, the cn&w was posted some time on this forum, as well as 1996, southern pacific. ill link 1995, as I have another link of 1996. I posted the katy in my other post, so Ill post another link I have in a separate location.

up 1995:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.267...4!1sata-gwqF6w2TTr0dOs6bHw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

For 1982 and 1996, There is a google maps view of both of them, which might have been posted in this forums, either way, ill post it here

https://www.google.com/maps/@32.206...blkXYG-w!2e0!5s20190501T000000!7i16384!8i8192

here is the katy:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.092...YtMKQusw!2e0!5s20190701T000000!7i16384!8i8192

here is 1982 again, partially blocked off though:
https://www.google.com/maps/@38.630...4!1sgS3-FtejZHlUG7FD8BuZmw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

next is 1989:
https://www.google.com/maps/@32.744...4!1soGKR_yFeXhuS4E5tOCJ6Jw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

and 1989 again:

https://www.google.com/maps/@32.728...jdyM3I7w!2e0!5s20130101T000000!7i13312!8i6656

I will have to hunt 1983, and maybe one day, it will be found, if it exists. Speaking of things I need to find, 8 more ns heritage units need to be found. But the main thing I have been trying to see is a bnsf 25th anniversary unit. The hard thing about seeing one is the small time period you can see them.

now here is a good one, the 15th anniversary, 2124, and the 100th aniversary, 3884, on the same train.

https://www.google.com/maps/@39.898...2FfwPqEA!2e0!5s20201101T000000!7i16384!8i8192

to end off this post, I have a conrail unit with a visible number, that being 8339.

https://www.google.com/maps/@37.274...JwTXlQBtA!2e0!5s20071001T000000!7i3328!8i1664

I will likely post more tomorrow, so see you then.

Some catches from me :

1. https://goo.gl/maps/WSXa1DdwYouSQNC39

CC206 71 of Cipinang depot is captured in this April 2022 shot taking a consist of express freight train (composed of 42 ton container carrier flatcars) toward Jakarta, but having rear 8 cars in empty condition. Note that flatcars with yellow-colored hooks on the side are also used for cement trains.

2. https://goo.gl/maps/1uc5FDuWRSc6vhie7

This August 2022 shot featured an unknown CC206 (likely Cirebon depot-based unit), seen here with a string of ballast hoppers waiting at Tanjungrasa station. Possibly this ballast train was waiting for another train to pass the station.

Your posts are always the most fun for me to explore! On the first shot, I made one click toward the mosque in the background and was treated to a passenger train going by. On the second shot, I turned it to look the other direction and could see another passenger train that had just gone by.

The passenger train shot in the first one is "Argo Cheribon", which is essentially post-rebranding version of "Cirebon Ekspres" after it was upgraded to all-New Image coaches manufactured between 2016 and 2017. And the passenger train captured in second shot is possibly "Gaya Baru Malam Selatan" (frequently abbreviated by rail fans in Indonesia with its initial as "GBMS") in its current form, which has a generator car, 2 Executive Class coaches, a dining car, and 6 Economy Class coaches (which were furnished with air conditioning from new, different from those built before 2010). ;)
