CTL-SHFT-F opens the pick list. When you find an asset you want to save on the pick list select it from the content and drag it to the pick list, that is how I do it.

I back up my data folder using 7zip and solid setting, it compresses the zip to about 50% of original size. Once I add enough new content I back it up.
