Probably because ATLS was initially never meant to be used as RRcrossings. It was meant for Trams to interact with road traffic on splines at intersections

I don't know about post-TANE Trainz, but American-style crossing gates by boats and vincentrh can malfunction. Boats ATLS gates don't seem to malfunction

Is there a THICK BALLAST (JR MS-ish) track with movable switch points for TANE?

The only track listed in CM by this gentleman is Incompatible, No Ballast and/or Bridge Track. I used the TANE CM to check out track by this author. He
