There is still two weeks to go before the Fostoria Rail Festival....

but foamers are already gathered! This is the scene early Saturday morning where a gathering watches a CSX double stack roll over the Norfolk Southern diamond.

You can bet those folks also have their smart phones tuned to the Fostoria railroad radio communications broadcast on the internet. Communications on the channel are very professional, where the recipient must recite the sender's message and the sender must confirm it correct. There is a minimum of horseplay - however when colorful language is used, it is used to reinforce good safeguard practices. Here is an exampe:

As a safety precaution, a train leaving town calls the CSX tower to warn his "End of Train" device is not working. This is so the tower can relay this message to the next train which will be positioned behind him/her. What specific train will be behind the calling engineer is not readily predictable with the traffic in Fostoria. When the follower train materializes, the tower states: "Be advised, train Q255 in front of you has a malfunctioning end-of-train device, i.e. "There is no shiney on the hiney."

The engineer of the follower train repeats and the tower confirms. He then remarks: "Sir Top'em Hat is going to be very angry," likely referring to the CSX regional Trainmaster.
