I have used "The Diesel Shop" many times. It is a great resource if you are ever making locomotives as they provide every detail and measurement for almost any kind of US-built locomotive. They also provide backgrounds on railroads and have corresponding rosters for those railroads.

I actually was not aware they did measurements, but that is pretty cool!
