WORKING OF MULTI-PRODUCT INDUSTRIES

The Multiple Industry New asset (MIN) can simulate production and consumption of various items. Each item is produced or consumed in a Queue and it can then be loaded or unloaded respectively in the appropriate rail wagon. For the asset to work properly with multiple products, it is essential to have a separate queue for each product. The output should be the last item in the queue and should not be produced before all the inputs are satisfied, obviously. An example is described herein to show the functioning of an industry which takes two product inputs and outputs a third product, to simulate the working of a real factory.

Lay out a small loop of track and place two MIN, one for a Warehouse and another for a Bakery. The Warehouse supplies flour bag pallets and sugar to a Bakery to consume them and produce cakes, which are packaged as AUS General Goods. How the input and output quantities are calculated and displayed in the Commodity bar charts and Waybills is explained. It is essential to set the Size and production or consumption quantities correctly.

Flour pallets are transported in a BNSF Flatcar having a capacity of 11 pallets. Sugar barrels are transported in a BR Freight MCO Grey wagon having a capacity of 19400 Items (19 kI). AUS General Goods are transported in a NSW SRA NODY Open Wagon which can carry 48 boxes. Specify the wagons to carry the appropriate goods. Place a track-mark for the train.

The Warehouse
Let the Warehouse produce Sugar in Queue 1 and Flour Bag Pallets in Queue 2. Size is set to 30000 items (30 kI) for sugar and 15 for flour bag pallets. Waybill is irrelevant. Start is Enabled. Duration may be set to 30 secs.

Production is set to fill one wagon of each type. Hence Queue 1 is set produce to 19 kI sugar items and Queue 2 is set produce to 11 flour pallets.

The Bakery
The Bakery consumes flour pallets in Q1, sugar in Q2 and produces AUS General Goods in Q3.

Size is set to 9 in Q1; 21000 in Q2 and 30 in Q3.
Waybill is set to 100% in Q1 and Q2 and is irrelevant in Q3.

Consumption of each item must be set to less than or equal to the Size, otherwise the production in Queue 3 does not commence. Hence set it to 7 in Q1 and 19000 in Q2.
In Q3 set Produce to 30 AG Goods.

Operation
When the game is started the Waybill displays the requirements for the Bakery, which is 9 flour pallets and 21 kI sugar items, as per Size.

Ctrl-right-click on the Warehouse MIN to see the Commodity levels. The Size is 15 flour pallets but 11 are produced. The sugar capacity is 30 kI but 19 kI are produced. The bar diagrams show the production relative to the Size.

The wagons are fully loaded from the Warehouse. The Warehouse is emptied but will fill up again in the specified Duration.

On navigating to the Bakery, the wagons are unloaded. As there are 11 flour pallets but the Size is 9, 2 pallets are left over in the wagon.

The inputs are consumed in 30 sec. Open the Commodity panel by Ctrl-right-click View details on the Bakery MIN to see the bar chart and stock of items. The panel displays that the sugar is fully consumed. As 9 flour pallets were unloaded but only 7 were consumed, 2 are left in stock.

After another 30 sec the cakes are produced in 30 boxes and loaded in the Open Wagon, which can accommodate 48. After the process is completed the Waybill is cleared. (If the Waybill icon is clicked before everything is done, it may show erratic results.)
Once the flour is consumed, the 2 pallets left in the Flatcar are also unloaded, increasing the stock in the Bakery to 4 pallets.

Second Trip
It is instructive to take a second trip of the train, to understand the consumption and production processes. Open the Commodity Panel on the MIN and verify how the quantities of the goods are calculated.

The Warehouse is filled as before and the wagons are fully loaded. The Waybill is as before.

In the Bakery, 4 flour pallets are left over, as 11 were supplied but only 7 were consumed in the first trip. In the second trip only 5 pallets are unloaded, as 9 are required and 4 are already in stock. After 30 sec 7 are consumed and 2 left over.
The Open Wagon is already loaded with 30 packages. Its capacity is 48, hence 18 are taken. As 30 were produced 12 are left over in the Bakery.
As soon as the flour is consumed, the 6 pallets left over in the Flatcar are unloaded. The stock of flour pallets in the Bakery is now shown as 6+2=8 pallets.

Conclusion
Thus the Multiple Industry New queue system can be used to model how a factory consumes raw materials to produce finished goods.

If you are using the Built-in Multiple_Industry_New <kuid:-25:1224> by Auran you will be limited to 3 commodities (queue's) in the Consume (input) or Produce (output) under the Processes tab. If you have more, you will not be able to change the Processes tab for the 4th commodity and up as it only will show the first 3 for the input and outputs (6 processes total).

Just released, made for TANE and TRS19 asset ver 4.5, fixes this problem;

So there are 6 queues in the Queues tab. Both assets only allow one commodity in each queue. So the limit on commodities is 6. But then, with the new asset you can put any combination of commodities in both the Consume and Produce in the Processes tab. 6 on each side (12 processes total).

A comprehensive and helpful guide.

Note, however, that it is not necessary to specify the target wagons for loading IF you have wagons that carry the commodity by default.

In addition, mizi's Industry Link will transport one or more commodities from one MIN to another, so by using multiple MINs in parallel (say at an elevator) more than three inputs can be achieved overall.
