View Full Version : Really Nice Signature Banners

I have to admit that I like to have fun with "sigs". Now I know some folks don't like them, and that's understandable, but as I have said before; to me a good sig banner is like an old "Burma Shave" sign! When I see some of the old sigs around here, it's like seeing an old friend.

Personally I like to make sigs that will make people chuckle, and I change them often. Some folks like to advertise their businesses or websites, and I did that before as well, but mostly I like to poke a little fun now that I'm in my feeble, ineffectual years. Maybe humor is my self defense against getting beaten down by life, but it's fine by me for the time being.

I like to use movie banners as inspiration for my sigs, but it's not easy to find a picture that will translate well to a 800 X 100 space at 30kb or less. It involves a lot of noodling with Paintshop; resizing and cloning and exporting to the web optimizer to trim the bytes. It can be tough to make a jpeg look nice in the size stipulated by the forums. It does take some time, but I've always been the type to try to follow the rules. I don't know, maybe I'm too timid for my own good!

Anyway, there sure are some fine sig banners on the forums, so I thought I would share some of my favorites, just as they appear here everyday. Feel free to add your own favorites if you like:

Despite your comment about adhering to the dictates of the COC, it is obvious that none of the sigs you post are correct. I sometimes wonder why you and I should try to stick to the rules when others are allowed to break them.

There is one user around here, bearcat245, who will tell you if your signature is outside of the boundary specified by the Code of Conduct. ;) It is always good to have some one who is that adherent to the CoC and who will help enforce its rules, which probably does help the moderators a little. ;)

Regards.

:hehe: Yes, dear Retro, it is always good to have... someone who reads the rules for and instead of me... I fancy another kind of literaure... how could I tell you... more... more... bucolic ... :hehe:

Some from the psychology field (BTW, never flowered, always muddy) would tell us that is what the never-become-a-policeperson's syndrome consists of.

:hehe: And I'm typing this from my condition of admin at IBTZ site and forum. Of course, no uninvited mods are allowed there. ;) Mods know how to do perfectly well.

Despite your comment about adhering to the dictates of the COC, it is obvious that none of the sigs you post are correct.

What? No,...say it ain't so! Are you saying that NONE of those sigs I reproduced are in the correct parameters for length, height, format or number of bytes? How could this possibly be? Are you suggesting that after ALL THIS TIME, there are still some forum members that have not read this post:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showpost.php?p=253186&postcount=1

Are you implying that after reading this post some forum members decide the rules don't apply to them, or they are somehow "better" than the other members of the forum? Are you relaying to us now, SIR, that it's okay for some forum members to upload sigs that are "a little" higher or "a couple pixels longer" or almost twice the size stipulated by our beloved AJ FOX? Is THAT what you mean?

Are we back in elementary school here? NO, who cares about "tattletale"s. All the more power to him if he want to go searching the forums looking for peoples signatures to report. There is a "Report" button for a reason. I report peoples signatures all the time when I see one that quickly hits me as being to big.

Do we all want it to be led to a policing militia thread? Let it be, without me, of course.

I really don't see the big issue here...

For me itís a matter of principle , the forum owners have stated many times that any breach of the COC would not be tolerated, if you going to impose rules and not enforce them what the point of having them lets just get rid of them.

I was banned 3 times for having over size sigs.

The forums are of late starting to slide from the high standard we used to have and I feel a line needs to be drawn. I may get people annoyed at me but how hard is it to follow the COC, if you do not agree to the rules why use the forums.

Lol! I am starting to see that this forum is dying a slow death. You have the moderator a**-kissers , the "lets start drama I'm bored" folks and the feed the trolls people. I seriously come here now to only see what bull and drama is going on. Every single thread has some tart preaching the CoC and bringing them even further off topic. Hey everyone, for a good laugh go check out Auran's forums and see what shows up that has nothing to do with the game itself. Thanks for the laughs.

Let's go a bit Spanish European... :D

Emiliano 'aka Gor' Sordo's one is reminiscent of his fine good-old-timed (as once in a time we had here on these forums) routes we all envy.

Sorry but what's the point of all this? It sounds like a bunch of wanna-be hall monitors. Leave it up to the moderators on this one, I think they are at least somewhat equipped to handle signature size compliance... It scares me that how out of all possible concerns with the moderators here, their failure to ensure signature CoC compliance is of people's chief concern.... And then the fact that people are so proud of their contribution to the community that they feel the need to post here about how great they are at reporting posts. As rude as it is I think the phrase "no life" is very appropriate here. All the wasted energy towards messing with signatures could be used so much better elsewhere... I wish I could self-appoint myself to something with as much prestige as "signature dimension enforcer," I've got a long way to go...

Happy Trainzing!

What is the problem with helping the moderators out to enforce the Code of Conduct? We do not have a "Report Post" button for nothing. I think that the moderators around here do quite a good job, but that does not mean that we can not do our part to remind people of the rules at times, and even help pound the rules in to some peoples' heads where necessary. ;)

Not only a single point, Davis, many of them! Different views and conception of enjoyment and fun!

Some enjoy policing and patrolling the forums, and some others, just watching and seeing, and just having fun recalling nice banners, ruled, unruled, big, tiny, dark, light or pinky rosy Bamby ones. Not the same point for everybody. No need to simplify things. ;)

Those who could have hidden intentions surely are not showing up over here! At last we know Dave B_C's intentions: Sending most of us -friends or foes- to the CoC State Prison and closing threads. :hehe: Forum Police Militia (FPM) can't have friends.

The Problem is where are the mods - and it not just banner size thats out of control the swearing and other rubbish is amazing. But we have to fix the small things first before moving on to the bigger stuff.

If you do a last on fourms search you will notice that the last time some of the appointed mods were on was over 2 years ago and the mods we do see now and then, it can be up to 3 weeks between visits.

I am still surprised that this thread alone has not been closed.

And no I have nothing else better to do with my time I am only doing what my "team leader" told me to do - the job of harrasing people on Facebook went to someone else.

The payware people tend to be succinct and sensible. Some of them use animated .gifs which is a way to communicate a lot of things at the same time and placeholder with a minimum cost of Kbs.

This one from VMD's old-timer Steffen Gross is a nice sample...

And here you go again. You make it just too easy for me. Although this time I'll just hold back, and instead just leave you with a one liner:

**** off.

And what is your problem, unless you are violating the CoC?

If you do not like us trying to remind users of the rules, then you do not have to come here to these forums.

Guys
Time to calm down...

This has been gone over before, many times... We do allow some leeway in signatures... However, lately, we have been a little pressed which has meant that many 'minor' reports have slipped through.

However, I will be making attempts to look into oversize signatures soon. Please remember that you do agree to abide by the COC by using the forums. If you don't agree with it, then no one is forcing you to use the forums.

We do feel that an 800 pixel wide by 100 pixel high signature is more than enough, and there have been many great signatures that have fitted within this size.

As above, we will be looking into oversize signatures in the near future.
