I would like to know how to cab-drive correctly. I almost always keep the locomotive on the first throttle notch when maintaining a constant speed and raising it when accelerating. Am I doing it wrong?

It sounds like you havbe the basic idea, the only other time to increase the throttle is if you are going to use the air brakes you can throttle up for power braking. Also when starting from a stop it is a good idea to throttle up slowly to avoid braking a knuckle.
