Great to see the forums are back again.

Considering we have a new look to the forum, my project has also undergone a number of changes, one of them being a change of name to Cityrail 2007/2008.

New screenshots will be added to this new thread in a few days from now.

Screenshots shown in the old forum are still available in the archives of my blog to anyone who may have missed my posts here in the last 18 months.

Hi Red_Rattler,

On the last forum, I think he said it was fine for both versions.

For TRS2004 or TRS2006?

It is being designed in TRS2006 and hopefully will be able to played on TRS2004....... I believe there is a way of doing this and hopefully I saved somewhere the instructions on how to do so which I found on the old forum.

Thanks trainboy1094,

Still a lot of work to do on it still. Currently working my way through 35 kilometres, or 22 miles, of Blue Mountains terrain which is a bit challenging. But it will look great in the end. The Blue Mountains section of the project will stretch from an elevation of 67 metres above sea level to 997 metres above sea level and is where I am hoping some great screenshots will be available.

Work still progresses on the Blue Mountain area. However, I am switching to other areas of Sydney as well so I am not spending too much time in one area.

But before I leave the Blue Mountains, this was an interesting screenshot I took of the Nepean River passing several metres below Lapstone. Not sure how this effect occoured but I found it pretty interesting.

Hello Roy,

Whilst in the Blue Mountains, Have you considered incorporating Cyberstorm's amazing funicular railways at Katoomba?.
I did some research & discovered there was an historic tramway at the bottom of the valley (Megalong??) as well as the funicular cliff-ride, & the skyway gondola.

cheers,

Hi Dan,

This was some modifications I did on an s-set to improve the night lighting. I will however be releasing my own version of the Sydney trains for the project sometime down the track.

Still have to look at that but will most likely include my own version of the funicular railways in the project . Wasn't aware of the tramway but will most definitely look into that. As for the skyway, yes it will be there.

It has been a while since I posted here and I am now intending to post here again on a regular basis basis.

Work on this project is still ongoing with new models and additions being added on a daily basis. More details of this is found in my blog for anyone that is interested in how this project is coming along.

I have lost count of how many models I have created for the project, and this screenshot is an example of the development of the 2nd Version of my Cityrail Tunnels.

The tunnel is by no means complete and will go through a number of stages where the tunnel is darkened and interesting additions such as water seeping from the walls in some places will be added.

This is a screenshot of version 2 of the Cityrail 2007/2008 tunnels I have built for the project. More work needs to be done on these tunnels but the basic structure is there. What I need to do is to add more details to the tunnel, such as the lighting as seen in the Sydney tunnels, make a slight adjustment to the darkness levels and add some interesting areas where you see things like signs of water seeping through the wall.

I also will be improving the tunnel entrances, darkening the concrete and adding moss and other details to the model's texture.

The Cityrail 2007/2008 project was nicely documented in the Auran screenshot forums going back to early 2005, but was sadly lost when the forums experienced technical issues last year and the content was lost.

However, using Google caches, I have been able to resurrect the lost posts and have now added them to my blog this month to provide a source of history for the project.

So anyone who hasnt seen the early shots of the project, please feel free to check out my blog for these "lost" screenshots.

Work on my project is still going strong with a lot of content being added to the project. Cityrail 2007/2008 is now beginning to take some shape after some time of development and will hopefully be of interest to a lot of the trainz fans. The project does run slow at times because 98% of the time is spent on developing new models for the layout..... this taking more time than I had hoped. Despite the time it takes to work out how to create certain models in gmax, the result so far is well worth the time it takes to put it all together.

QE2 and the Queen Mary 2 featured in Cityrail 2007/2008

With the historic visit by both the QE2 and Queen Mary 2 last month to Sydney, I have decided to add these 2 ships to Sydney Harbour to commemorate their visit. As a result of this, I am working hard on these models in my spare time.

http://www.dateck.au.com/cityrailtrainzblog/uploaded_images/Select002.jpg

I have collected a number of pictures taken of their visit, and am pretty excited about adding night textures to both these models as they will look spectacular at night.

The Queen Mary 2 will be seen in the middle of the harbour as this ship was too large to dock at Circular Quay...... while the QE2 will be docked at the Overseas passenger terminal as shown in the 2nd picture.

http://www.dateck.au.com/cityrailtrainzblog/uploaded_images/QE2.jpg

I will show screenshots of the finished ships here once they have been completed.

Hi Ish,

The plans at this stage are that I will be doing 2 versions of the Queen Mary 2. One will end up on the DLS "for the taken" while the 2nd version will be released with Cityrail 2007/2008 and will have extended features. After all, I need to keep some ammo to make my layout appealing when it is released.

I will also do the same for my models of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Tangara and a couple of other models people have requested me to share.

This is a test shot of the QE2 in the Ciktyrail 2007/2008 project. This is only the beta version so there are a number of issues to be looked at, plus adding the features that make the QE2 the graceful ship it is. The red and black funnel is being worked on and will be added to the ship tomorrow.

Also looking at the height of the model, the QE2 is sitting too low, and it's height needs to be increased to 52.3 metres.

But for it's first appearance, I am quite happy with this result.

I am adding an updated shot of the QE2. The last picture of the ship looked really strange with the height problem. I also found one of the tugs floating in the middle of the air, making the QE2 look much smaller in comparison to the tugs.

This model still has a way to go before it is finished but it is a starting point for me to begin moulding with.

I know this is supposed to be a forum showing screen shots of trains, but I couldn't resist throwing in this shot of the QE2.

Of course this is prior to textures being added to the QE2 but you get the general idea of what it will look like in the project. Oh... and if you think the bridge is missing something, the bridge pylons on each end have being removed for painting night textures.

Hi Ish,

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. I have matched the model with the QE2's actual size which is the following:

Length : 293.5 metres
Height : 52.2 metres
Width : 32.07 metres

This additional picture shows a newer shot of the model as I start to add textures to the model.

Great work there. Looks like you have put a lot of effort into this work. I am sure a lot of people out there will be waiting for you to release this little gem.

Will let you know via my blog when the first version of the QE2 will be added to the DLS. This will not be a final version as I will be using an enhanced version for my project when it is released. Hopefully by that time I will have sourced some better pictures of the ship at night time to come up with some decent night textures for the model.

Hi Roy,

Your work continues to astound & encourage many.
The attention to detail, cutting-edge Trainz technology (pushing the boundaries further out),
zeal & dogged determination is more than just 'commendable'!...:)

I thank you for taking the precious time to keep us so regularly informed on this journey.
It's 'your' journey, but by now you must realize there's several eager followers,
all willing you on to greater achievements & further progress.

I have a question you may be able to help me with, concerning 1km basemaps:-
I know you use GE (Google Earth) in conjunction with the UBD? directory for Sydney.
I have been using GE to create 1km maps that I then place onto the nine
1km basemaps.
But in a current project I have 70 GE 1km maps, & need to make 70 basemaps.
Can I 'alias' the original nine, or make my own, & how?.

rjord1

......Can I 'alias' the original nine, or make my own, & how?.

In TRS2006 I have created a new asset for each GoogleEarthMap and then opened it up in explorer and renamed the config file to oldconfig. I have then copied across all the files from a previous GoogleEarthMap asset including the config file into the new asset.

I then go about changing the KUID number of the config file for the new asset to the KUID of the new asset...... also changing the username to the name of the new asset.

Then I replace the old TGA file with the TGA file with the Google Earth image to be used on the new asset. Then i commit the new asset and it is ready to use with the next GE image.

You could try using alias because that would be quicker to do 70 maps. However i personally have stayed away from aliases as I had a problem with TRS2004 years ago and suddenly found I had lost 40 plus items I had added which were aliased from another asset. Probably something I have done wrong but I have decided not to use aliases myself and create new assets from scratch and use modified copies of config files from another of my models. I lost the aliases when I restored from a disk error so I think the aliases did not get backed up for some reason..... they just disappeared. Could have been errors on my disk drive causing that too.

Hope that makes some sense. By the way, the UBD you mentioned is simply a Street Directory I have on DVD showing maps of all cities across Australia. I used that prior to Google Earth existing.

Hi Roy,

I'll need a little time to work through the process you explained; of how you make GE assets etc.
Many thanks for this.
Am I to understand that you start off with the nine basemap kuids, & make copies of these with your own kuid #s?.
Or do you make the whole asset yourself; not using the nine basemaps?.

Oh btw I'm running TRS2004.

:)

Hi Noel,

I only use one asset , or model, to add Google Earth images to the project. I look at the area I am working on, get the Google Earth image for that area and use that image for the one model I have setup to be used as a Google Earth template for the purpose of adding scenery.Once I have added the buildings, parks, etc that is shown on Google Earth, I move onto the next area.

Instead of creating a new model and KUID, I use the same one and simply edit the picture file for the model and copy in the Google Earth image for the next section. This way you can move quickly from one area to the next simply by replacing the texture file.

I only use one KUID as this is only a temporary model and will be deleted when the project is complete. Saves deleting 70 or more KUIDs.

Hope that helps.

Hey Roy

Just wondering where you got your NSW signals from, and if you can provide a download link for TRS04.

Thanks

I believe I downloaded those from the download station some time ago. Believe they belong to Natvander. However I was having problems finding them while doing a search for them.

Try searching the Download station for Natvander and maybe you can find them there.

I will be replacing them in my project with my own version of the signals which I will be starting work on in a few months time.

Hi Roy,

Yes that does make sense, especially when considering deleting 70-odd kuids in TO.....:)

My particular problem involves chopping approximately 1.5-mile (east-west) slice out of the Murray River,
between Tocumwal & Barooga.

Craig Carr (Seeseeme) & I are re-creating the old Narrandera_Tocumwal Branch-line,
& including the WWII McIntyre Field as well.

McIntyre Field was the largest airfield (25 square miles) in the Southern Hemisphere during WWII.
It's a project in it's own right.
There was a 500-bed hospital built for the USAAF (as was McIntyre Field),
that's located east of Tocumwal.
It's several miles away from the township & air base.

We are putting in a tourist narrow-gauge loop-line, that will traverse McIntyre Field,
then out to the "RAAF #5" hospital, then return along The Murray to Tocumwal.
It's too far as a tourist attraction, so I'm bringing the hospital closer to the airbase & township,
by chopping out a section of the Murray River, then re-merging the terrain river roads etc.
I wanted to create the 70 basemaps so as to be able to accurately 'blend' what's left back together again.
And to be able to see the best places to actually make the incisions.

I wanted to do this in stages.
The 1st stage was to chop out the section, after laying down just the basic layout to the east of Tocumwal.
No textures/buildings etc.
Rather than re-create maps to be used in later stages one-at-a-time (or groups of say nine),
I thought it would be good to batch-produce all 70 basemaps, but lay down
only say five or six at a time,
then as I moved along, remove those first group & lay down the next group.
But still have 70 basemaps.
Once the section is removed, I could delete the unnecessary basemaps or archive them for possible future use.
Perhaps a stand-alone "McIntyre Field" route, only not the chopped-down version.

Roy I very much appreciate your input on this, & the above is an attempt to explain why I wanted to create
so many basemaps, rather than just a few, then once that area is completed, move onto the next area...............:)

Rjord1, if it's suitable for TRS2004, what do expect the size to be in MB? Even if I had a "FCT", the last time I downloaded around 250MB or so, it took over a week. But I'm not sure the computer I use, could handle it anyway, if it is very large.

If it's too large, would it be better to download in parts, say 50 - 60MB each or something, based on the existing lines, like Northern, East Hills, etc., where people can join themselves.

Hi Red Rattler,

I haven't looked at the size of the project as yet as there is still so much more to be done. It may be that I need to issue it via cd ( as payware?) or issue it in parts...... still too early to decide as yet.

Once released, there is always the option to break it down into smaller pieces as seperate projects........

I will be creating a new set of Red Rattlers for the Cityrail 2007/2008 project for those of us who remember the 80's. Back then, travelling on a Red Rattler was an experience with overcrowding on trains whose doors were jammed open and people were standing just inside the open doors hanging on for dear life.

A different time..... but definitely an enjoyable time on the trains.

This picture is almost the same as the last one except that I have used free software called Trainz Tuner to increase the visible distance of the project to 3 baseboards in width. Therefore I now have the Opera House and the 2 ships in the harbour now showing where they were not visible in the previous picture.

Cityrail 2007/2008 version of Tangara T-sets and G-sets
Estimated release date : June 2007

To complete work on these models, I am seeking high resolution images of the Tangara trains. If you have any images as listed below or know of some links to such pictures, can you email me or let me know via private message on this forum.

The Tangara will be released in 2 flavours:
- the T-Set
- the G-Set

Both of these will need images of the following:

- Images of the side view of a T-Set and a G-set ( day and night required)
- Images of the front and back ( day and night required)
- Images of the roof including pantograph area (day and night required)
- Images of the windows and doors with and without passengers sitting or standing (day and night). Faces will be modified to protect the innocent.

I am still trying to find suitable images in the meantime but all I am finding are shots half covered in shadows or hidden behind other objects. If need be, I will be prepared to do some photoshopping of various images to create the images I need.

So if you have been waiting for the Tangara for Trainz to arrive, and you know of some images that may help me, please let me know via my email address shown on my blog or private message on this forum. Many thanks for anyone who can assist me.

That is true and always a possibility.

With low end PC's , I am creating this project with low end machines in mind. For example, the first version of the Harbour Bridge was very hard on machine resources where as the latest version has little if any impact while driving a train through that area.

I found that some items on the DLS seem to bring Trainz to a near halt at times. I am assuming that is because they are high on polygons. The models I am making are designed for minimal polygons while keeping the look I am after. Hopefully this gives the result at the end of the day I am looking for.

Thanks NorthShore,

I am making some good progress on it now and am currently creating the building skyline down at Circular Quay. This will be viewed as you cross over the bridge.

Tangara work has started and going well. Will release more news on the Tangara T-set and G-sets soon.

I know that other people are working on Sydney projects too. I just want to say that I hope they keep on working on their projects. Over the years I have heard people stop their work because they were waiting for mine to finish. I want to discourage people from stopping their own creations. Everyone has a unique way of creating routes for Trainz and it would be good if there were several versions of Sydney routes around, many versions of Tangaras and other NSW rail stock.....etc

I see I have dropped from a 5 star rating to 2 stars on this thread...... and am taking note of the drop in satisfaction. I know the screenshots have been average at best but these will improve 100% in the coming months. At the moment more time is being spent on creating custom models for the project and this is needed before screenshots of "entire" areas can be shown here.

The first detailed screenshots of one area will be previewed in the coming weeks. This is the Chatswood area which is having a complete makeover in the project. What you will see of Chatswood in the project will be the station and surroundings as it will be seen at the end of 2007 when construction work finishes...... and not how it looks now.

These small pictures are some of about 80 pictures I am using to create the still to be completed Chatswood Station.

Stage 1 of 3 of the Tangara T-set for Cityrail 2007/2008.

This stage of the train has only basic textures and no details whatsoever.

However, it will soon be replaced by photo-realistic textures and much better details such as the roof and pantograph. By stage 3 of the Tangara, this train will have a photo-real Tangara cab added to the train, as soon as I work out what I need to do to build the Cab view seen in Trainz.

Work is being done on both the T-set and G-set versions of the Tangara.

Yes... there will definitely be platform announcements . I have a number of sound bytes I can use and edit but i may try to contact Cityrail themselves and see if I can get a more extensive library to work with....... or record myself.

But yes..... station announcements will definitely be there.

Roy,

You should ask around on Railpage for appropriate sounds, as many people there work for CityRail and have the program that CityRail uses to make those sounds. This would be the best way to go, and if you ask nicely you should be able to get any sound you need.

Due to the huge power issues across Sydney and the Central Coast, the pictures in this post are not online at the moment. As my blog is also housed on my home server, the blog is out of action too.

Speaking to Energy Australia, they have record numbers of power issues and I have no idea when they will restore power.

I am assuming that the blog may be down for 24 hours. Just wanted to let people know in case they noticed my blog was off the air. And unless i can rig together some rechargable batteries for the laptop, no work on the project either till hopefully tomorrow.

DeanBarnett, since when does Newcastle have "double double" tracks?

He is something just for fun, Rjord1 should include a VFT (Very Fast Train) link from Newcastle to Sydney via Swansea, The Entrance & Palm Beach!

I did attempt to build a VFT from Newcastle - Sydney via The Entrance & Palm Beach in UTC that really started off as a branch of another fictitious(1) line, but for some reason, attempted to add some number to the NSWG KM marker, & that's when the thing failed on me. I got as far as Newcastle to Palm Beach (I chose to put Circular Quay in Newcastle rather than in Sydney - read made a mistake in the direction!) to Newcastle then down via Swansea, The Entrance & Palm Beach.

I did get it back sort-of with TRS2004, but for some reason the Forth Bridge that was used, got lost in "Cyberspaaaace" somewhere!

1. Yikes, I spelt it correctly first time for once!

Even without attempting to achieve such a high standard as is seen & admired by many; in those forum threads,
your work on lighting, dogged determined dedication (please I do not mean to be impolite here) to detail, & ground-breaking vista of mammoth-tasking is mind-boggling.
You are one who is held in high esteem, to whom many would aspire to.

Just throwing in a few quick screenshots.

The first one is testing darkness effects in the Blue Mountains area with the sun still to rise over the horizon. Here the valleys below should be still in darkness while the tops of the hills where the train is should get the sun's light first.

The second picture was inspired by the super-storm from last night which was the third superstorm to hit Sydney in 3 weeks . Here I am basically checking how the Blue Mountains line will look during a heavy downpour in the project. Does the train look like it is covered in water and is driving through a stormy environment?

Hi Roy,

'Yes', to a degree.
Is there any way you can get the equivalent of 'road spray';
at wheel level?.
Also, looking from the side as the train passes, can you get
'sheeting' misty diagonal 'rain'; coming off the rear corners of each carriage?,
& a drizzle-waterfall effect too?.
I guess you saw the waterfalls off South Head? on the news the other day.
Don't make it as spectacular as that 'though. :D
A big 'ask', but to me the above two visuals may do the trick, if you can
somehow achieve that effect :)

Actually that is something I have thought about in the project. Of course that will only be for the locos and carriages I am creating for the project. The pantographs will also have visual sparking and crackling every once in a while...... just have to work out the best way to do all of this.

Oh and waterfalls where the water goes up defying all gravity like South Head will not be seen in the project :)

The project is based on Sydney as it is today......... but I also have included the as yet to be completed Epping to Chatswood rail line which will not be open until sometime in the middle of next year.

Just a quick teaser screen shot of my new bridge now added to the project. This will be used to create the various looks I will need to replace the 447 bridges found in the project.

Each of these bridges I have added over the year have the same look and appearance, so I have designed this bridge to allow me to create numerous bridges with the same shape but different textures.

I have decided to create these bridges as scenery objects instead of splines which will suit my project well.

As I need between 4 and 6 different types of NSW catenary for the project, I am working on new NSW catenary models for the project. This is still work in progress but I am hoping that it will be finished sometime in the coming week.

Does anyone know the status of Wiley from Redfern Workshops? I know he was working on models for the Tangara and NSW catenary as well but I havn't heard from him since February.

Construction of the new Tangara train for Trainz is well on schedule. I have completed the interior of the carriage and am now adding textures to the model. Once the interior is painted, I will reshape the external shape of the train.

The picture below shows the first steps of the Tangara texturing. I decided to start on the seats near the doors.

Rjord1, if you are modelling the Eastern Suburbs Railway (ESR), do you know if a grade exists between Central & Town Hall of 1:25?,
as I can only find grades of 1:32 & 33, & grades, which are shown as "E's" (doesn't look as if it stands for elevation) in between each of these grades. It's partly in reference to that "Slow News Day" story yesterday by those two so called "transport reporters" in a certain newspaper.

Rjord1, with your pictures, any chance of using thumbnails &/or reducing the size of screenshots please - they take to long to load with dial up.

PS: Nbrettoner & others, their's no need to quote a picture, especially when it is directly under the original.

M/sharpe, I know where to get the diagrams of gradients, it's just at the time, I wanted to know if their is a section of the ESR (& anywhere else in the electric area only), that is as steep or even steeper than the grades under the Lane Cove River yet to be opened Epping - Chatswood Rail Line. I haven't been able to get the details of the grade/s especially under the Lane Cove River.

Hint: Relates to two of the worst "transporters reporters" of a certain "right-wing" paper.

Hi noah_73

Sorry about the lack of updates to the blog. November and December last year were not good months for the project and I have spent the last 8 weeks restoring parts of the project after some serious issues.

The good news is that the project is not dead..... far from it. And I am even more determined to get it finished.

However, I have had to rename the project to Cityrail 2008/2009 as there is no way I will complete it in the next 11 months. Sorry about that as I know a lot of people are waiting to try this out.

Daily updates on my blog resume as of today.

Once again, thanks for asking about the project and sorry for not getting back to you sooner noah.

Sorry about the lack of posts here. Computer problems are a nightmare and a motherboard problem, battery problem and power adapter problem were not helpful. And I couldn't post old stuff here.... so I had to wait until myself and the computer were back in good condition again.

But the project is now back as strong as ever and gathering steam.

Here is a new screenshot of tests I am doing on a station building for the project. There are a few problems with the model... such as the roof will need to be changed to a green color using photoshop....... the grey tin roof didn't come across so well.

And the building seems to have lost a foot at the bottom.... making the seat a very hard seat to sit on.

Hi Roy,

Yes a resounding "welcome back!"

Sorry to read of your woes.
I can agree totally with Craig's comment.
Presently my original "C:" drive & it's cloned copy are both now dead, leaving me with a situation looking somewhat grim.
They are presently being 'looked at', to see what's salvageable.
I have years of data/research etc, plus thousands of emails with attachments at great risk of being lost.
Some things are not always backed up, & in my case the 'backup' has failed as well!. :'(

But I'm hoping that between the two Hard Drives, most of the important
'otherwise not backed up' stuff can be extracted, even if partially corrupted/damaged etc.

Looking forward to future updates on your great project, which is an inspiration to all.

Noel,

That is indeed terrible news.

I had that experience with Microsoft Train Simulator when I first started on this project. I made a small change to the project and a week later I noticed major corruption in 50% of the project. Entire sections of track had just disappeared. Of course by that time I had backed up over the good saves and I had to dump 2 years of work. :'(

Thats when I moved to Trainz.

So I don't loose research and important files, what I do is to save them into sub folders in the Program Files / Auran folder. That way when I want a complete back up of the project, if I backup the Auran folder and all it's subfolders..... everything is backed up.

I also save my work files and the folder "local" to DVD on a monthly basis for archiving. I also use Acronis True Image to save an image onto a dedicated external Maxtor hard drive. Sadly this new Maxtor 232 GIG hard drive has bad sectors so I am dumping it and staying away from Maxtor. They seem to have issues with their drives.

Hope you can salvage 100% of your data. Let us know how you go.

If you are going to call it CityRail 2010, you need to include the North West Rail Line/metro, never to be built other lines. You won't have to do anything extra, as this re-re-re-reannouncement of the North West Rail Line/metro will never happen!!!

I will check out these lines to see what progress in planning is being made on them. Maybe just maybe I will add them if they are confirmed and signed for.

The figures I am adding to the project are not created using 3D software such as Poser. It was going to take too long to create the 250 plus people I am creating for the project. Interesting enough, the figures are visible from most angles.... so they do seem to have a "3D" look to them. Not sure how I did that.

The police and "Sin Bin" were created yesterday and over night......... when I first built the vehicle I inadvertently made it 80 meters tall. It's wheels were bigger than the bank!

And yes........ the Train is one of those "new" ones I found on the DLS some time ago. Don't worry....... as soon as the Tangara and S-Set is done, I will be working on some other sets as well.

Here is a little mistake I made in the scenery design. Notice the pole for the pedestrian walk signal..... It is way too tall. You can see the push button panel on the pole about 15 feet above the guy in the white shirt.

Oooops.

Hey mate,

Must admit its good to see what updates you have made to your project.. just wondering how your tangara is going? i'm sure all your fans out there would love get their dirty paws on what appears to be the finest and most well made sydney suburban train, ever. You do seem to have a great talent at creating content for trainz. Or perhaps uploading some of your awesome models, like the STA bus above to the DLS?

In regards to your project... have you thought about doing sections at a time? like a V1 thats say the city loop and central, then a V2 that updates the original and adds a section on etc? Just that the entire project your creating seems quite overwhelming, and no doubt must be exciting, and daunting at the same time?

I just think that with your great talent you've shown to date if you made smaller sections/ lines and released them sooner you would get such a big following, if you dont already:) that other awesome creators would be begging to assist you make models/ buildings etc to create what will no doubt be the most realistic, life-like route to hit Trainz ever.

Thanks for the kind words there re the project. And yes it can be a bit daunting. But I always tackle big projects like this one area at a time. For example when I was started laying down the first of over 600 kilometres of rail track, I was wondering what I was getting myself into. But after many months I got to a stage where I got to lay the final piece of track in the rail network which would join the first laid piece. And fittingly that join was the rail track going over the Harbour Bridge between Wynyard and Milsons Point.

I may very well look at releasing the project a section at a time. I haven't really thought about that as yet but it could be a possibility. This would give people a chance of driving on a particular line they are interested in over other lines.

No promises there but it is a thought I am considering.

This poor dog is stuck somewhere out near Penrith. Like Lassie it too is trying to find it's way home and the quickest way to get home is by train.

Sadly it is still searching for the rail tracks so it can hop on a train to get home to Bondi Junction.

This picture shows a sample of the animals being created for the project and the first of the Cityrail 2010 trees.... a gum tree in this case.

I forgot to answer a question from p_dacey re the Tangaras. I am overcoming a few obstacles re it's construction . I am looking at releasing the Tangara to the DLS sometime in the next 8 weeks. It could be 3 weeks... it could be 8...... it all depends on how I go. But I will get the Tangara onto the DLS as soon as possible because I know there are many people waiting for it.

Sorry for not getting back to you Red Rattler.

I have been having hardware issues and a couple of other things going on which delayed work on the project.

But these are out of the way now and I have purchased a new laptop during the week for the project to continue development on.

The project is not dead in the water and is back.

I am transferring the project onto this new Vista machine and then working out where I am . Then work will begin on new models.

I am determined this project will be complete but the last 5 months hardware issues have been a problem for me and I was losing work. It was only this last week I could afford to do something about it. Aplogies for all those who have been waiting for updates but they are now back to daily updates as of yesterday.

Hi Roy,

Glad to see your back up & running again.
Looking forward to your much-missed progress.

I noticed a nasty comment on your blogsite by an

Whoever did that, has pinched MY name! (I forgot my blogger password so had to post as my alias:

Be assured that most meece are meek, & willing to wait-a-while, as I am.
I empathise with you, as the route I'm doing has been on the go for the best part of five years,
& will cover over 100 miles.

BTW, "Wait-a-While" is a location of our route. Can anyone guess the route?.
The 1st 'person' to do so, can have a crack at that nice fresh smelly bit of cheese
on that wooden contraption over there; with the big spring-thing. :hehe:

Hi Roy,

I actually can't find it!.
Basically it was someone knocking you for not releasing at least a beta version & saying that you would die before you'd finish it. I thought it was pretty rude actually. It's your route & you are very graciously allowing people to follow you on your 'journey'.
I thought it was on your blog site, but even that looks 'different' just now. Considering the time of my previous post (this afternoon); what's changed??

Hi, I have been following this with some interest,.. I know you have made and are making heaps of new objects for this project, but I was wondering, since it is a while off yet, if you wouldn't mind releasing some of them on the DLS for others who wish to make NSW themed routes (like me) for example, the NSW catenary would be invaluable to me.

I agree with Spooney, you have made a number of excellent models that would be of great use to those of us modelling NSW and other Australian themed routes :D . BTW the I've been following your project as well and I have to say Well Done from all the screens I've seen so far. I can't wait for when you finish it! :mop:

Hey, does anyone know if there are any CityRail routes or Sydney routes that are good and are available on the DS? Ive been waiting for a while now... and There hasn't been any updates so Im afraid that Roy might have temporaily left his work, or its delayed.

Any CityRail or SYdney line is fine. Please send me the link if you know of any. Thanks!...:)

Hello FBI_Bosch,

I am currently working on Cityrail - Shellharbour to Waterfall (DEM map) route. Though it is a ways off, I have track 75% laid and working on some textures etc atm to take a break from track laying. But I not sure on any good ones available at this time. I myself being a NSW lad (Now in Adelaide) like anything city rail as well.

My route I am designing, I am trying to have AI commuter trains and player controlled freight initally ( hints at David's Vset :p ) But I am not looking at any type of release for another few months as my time working on it has waned due to work commitments atm ( Shame having to make money to live) But I wil be putting updates on the forums as I move along, Though i have been abit slack with them in the last few weeks.

Cheers

Trent

High Speed Trains in Sydney? :) - If only!

There are a few errors with how you've done your prototype. The DOWN (relief?) track for the Richmond branch passes over 3 tracks, the UP Main, UP Suburban, and DOWN Suburban. On the northern side of the overpass, there is the UP track from Richmond which joins the UP Main. On the southern side of the overpass, there is only the DOWN Main. The DOWN track for Richmond turns out from the DOWN Main just after Seven Hills to go on the overpass.

Hopefully that hasn't confused you. :)

I think i'm right with the Mains and Suburbans as beyond Blacktown, the Suburbans are on the inside, and Mains on the outside.

Will the Trainz CityRail project also contain the City Metro tram and monorail lines?

Boobless_ed

I'd guess this project is dead. I think something of such a scope was doomed from the start. We don't really even have any mid-distance prototypical Cityrail routes, so I think that with such a workload, it's unlikely to be seen.

It took a good five years for the ECML line that is in TS2010 to get to where it is, and even that is of a smaller scope. And was made by a group of people, as I understand things.

Jackford,

To provide an indication of the scope of this project, it was originally started back in 2005/2006.

If it is ever completed and released, you'll be waiting for quite a while yet, so I'd not be relying on it big time if I were you.
