I have installed the Strasburg 2-10-0 #90 V2 Steam Engine but it will not respond to either manual or automatic commands. I have a few other engines also, with the same issue. They are beauties and I really would love to run them. Can anyone help?

Most appreciated!

What version of trainz are you using, and did you install SP1 if you are using TRS2006?

Also, have you check the item for errors in content manager? Are there any Exclamation marks (!) or question marks (?) beside the name.

This could even be caused by an engine file which was written for an older version of trainz which no longer works correctly for the newer version. I encountered this problem when I tried to convert the engines I created for 04 to 09 - they would no longer move or if they did at all, it was extremely slow to build, taking over 20 minutes to move a few hundred feet down the track.

Let us know the kuid of the items you are having trouble with and some one may be able to investigate further - maybe even me when I get out of hospital!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am using TrainZ 2009, but will have to check on the files and kuid's. And I do have an Engine or 2 that run extremely slow also. Looks like you are certainly on the right track. I don't often edit files since I usually get myself into more trouble. I am not a neebee but just an old trainbee who likes playing and changing layouts. I do love TrainZ though and the 50's steam age period.

These are all the same basic loco:
Baldwin 2-10-0H,<kuid:96914:4870>
Baldwin 2-10-0M,<kuid:96914:4872>
Strasburg 2-10-0 #90 V2,<kuid:313505:1035>

They all use enginespec kuid:96914:51487 which needs changes for TS2009. AI and DCC use the parameters in the Motor section of the enginespec. I made the following changes to get these locos to work in AI and DCC.
Change these tags from:
max-accel 500
max-decel 1500
throttle-notches 32
axle-count 75

to these:
max-accel 7500
max-decel 500
throttle-notches 8
axle-count 5

The maxspeed is set to 20 meters/sec which is 45 MPH. If you want something different, make that change also.

These changes only effect AI and DCC, not CAB mode.

Bob,

Thanks for the follow up on this. Since I am in Hospital, I am unable to check -don't have trainz on this machine!.

Have a great one.

Hi Unlimited: I also have downloaded this Engine, what a beauty. I noticed the same situation, but what I did was change the engine spec. works just fine now Dcc Mode. But I'm glad everything turned out good. rweber knows what his talking about.

I appreciate the fix for DCC and AI mode, however I am wondering if anyone has a fix for CAB mode?

They'll need completely new steam containers in the steam-engine config. This is mandated by changes made to the steam physics in TC3 and carried forward in TS9 and TS10. What most people do is change the enginespec tag in the loco config to reference a steam-engine spec that works and hope for the best. Performance won't match the real loco but few seem to care as long as they run.

The axle count will have no effect in DCC or AI control modes. While 6 (not 5) is the actual axle count for this loco, I normally use a number which accounts for the added resistance that steam locos have that isn't accounted for in the Trainz resistance model. Some specs based on work I've done also include this added resistance. It's based on a nominal increase of 20lbs/ton of weight on the drivers over and above the other resistance figures. The number comes from Johnson's book - chief engineer at BLW. A typical resistance for axle count is 29lbs per axle. In Trainz based on a few tests it seems that the number they use is closer to 32 or 33lbs/axle. It can also be accounted for by reducing the power output but I use axle count.

Hi there,

Im having the same exact trouble, and your suggestion of changing the specs is great, but i have Trainz 2010, and am not familier with how to change engine specs or kuids, or replacing kuids. Could you direct me somehow?

thanks,

rweber,

I had issues with this engine as well until you posted those engine specs. Works great now. I noticed however that it does not stop at designated trackmarks. The engine slows down but it seems really slow in doing so. What config settings should I change in that config file to correct this issue in dcc?

Would it just be easier to find another enginespec? If so, do you know of one that would work appropriately with this engine?

For the Baldwin 2-10-0H,<kuid:96914:4870> I'm using IRS XC e-spec 09,<kuid2:81997:51842:1> enginespec.
Fpr Baldwin 2-10-0M,<kuid:96914:4872> I'm using Stanier 8F Enginespec,<kuid2:71662:52104:2>

The blw dec b2, <kuid:96914:504872> asset is mising 2 texture files: engine_black.texture.txt and engine_black.bmp. I describe how to fix the same problem with another of Ben's bogeys in this post: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?86314-Narrow-Gauge-36-quot&p=954940#post954940
