Hello all,

I think that it's about time we set up a topic for alternative screenshots. These can be the Monorails, Maglev train, or other non traditional forms of rail transportation. Hopefully this takes off and is as successful as some of the other topics like USA Pics, etc.

I will go ahead and start the series.

Here are a few new shots.
Monorail Blue is shown arriving in the Contemporary Hotel to pick up a load of passengers. http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9483/screen002mia.jpg

A view from the passenger cars. One of the great things about the monorail trains is that you can see what it's like to ride as a passenger if you want.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8799/screen003l.jpg

Look for this shot and a few others in the 'Work in Progress' thread. Monorail Blue is shown heading out to make rounds in the city.
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1638/screen004i.jpg

This was taken while I was working on adding some new stations and beams. It's pretty difficult to try and add stations and beams (especially monorails given their size) after placing buildings. I tried using the beams going right down the middle of the street and I think it works ok. Here we see monorail green headed south towards Mountain Street Station. http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9666/screen005l.jpg

As a footnote for those of you who don't know. The monorails are all identified by the color stripes. The reason I call them 'monorail black, monorail blue, etc' is because that's how Disney identifies them.
If you're interested, I wrote an article about the Disney Monorail system in the May edition of Trainz Magazine. Feel free to download and read more about the monorails.

As I said earlier, I have a few surprises for this route. Here's one of them.

This monorail shop is set to handle 10 monorail trains at one time. At Disney World in Florida, two monorails will stay parked at different stations overnight. In the event of an overnight freeze, then the trains will be parked in the Contemporary resort to keep them protected. No monorail will spend two consecutive nights out of the shop. Monorail red, shown on the far right, is parked in the paint shed and major maintenence bay. All other bays are for general repairs and upkeep.

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/5206/screen006e.jpg

This is the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) used in Disney World in Florida. In real world operations, the three beams you see take people to hotels, EPCOT Center, or the Magic Kingdom. I'm using it as a major transfer station for people in the city and possibly to other places.
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6302/screen014a.jpg

Monorail Purple is shown heading out from the TTC platform 2 into the city. The construction shown is due to the overwhelming popularity and demand for the monorails. There will be a total of 2 (maybe more) large parking garages to handle the car traffic.

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/4615/screen016m.jpg

Monorail Gold is making a regular stop to pick up passengers.

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3087/screen018m.jpg

Notice there are no direct beam crossings. There are 2 reasons for this. The first and most obvious is to avoid collisions and allow the smooth flow of traffic. The second being that I want this to be as realistic as possible. http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/8333/screen013j.jpg

Another crossing view
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/984/screen012b.jpg

Enjoy. I welcome all comments.

Your shots are impressive. No worries on the double posting, I've done that myself.
It's kind of ironic that you mentioned a Disney movie with the monorails. I belong to a Disney forum where somebody mentioned ideas for the next Disney movie. So far they've made movies about 2 different rides (Pirates and the Haunted Mansion) and somebody said they should do one about the monorails (joking of course). That being said, I do think that someone needs to do an in-depth documentary about the monorail system and what kind of benefits it would have in major cities. Can you imagine the monorails replacing the Chicago El train? It could be interesting.

It fits just fine. Cool shot.
One thing I really wish I knew how to make is the tug they use to pull in monorails when they break down. From what I can tell of it, it looks like a large platform with a diesel engine that rides the beam. If that was to be built, I think we could all use it on our monorail layouts. Here's a link for it.

http://davelandweb.com/monorail/popup.htm?images/70s/tug2.jpg

The other thing I'd love to see is the newest monrails that are used at Disneyland. I have no clue how to make them but it would be a cool thing to see. It might just be me, but those are some slick looking trains. Here's a link: http://davelandweb.com/monorail/popup.htm?images/2000/DSC_1736.jpg

Nice monorails, guys. Bulldog1653, do I see TRS2006 menu buttons on the side there? Not that it's a problem, I actually have 06, and I want that thing. Would it be under 'monorail' in the DLS, by any chance?

Yes I am using 2006. The monorail project can be found uner the Extras tab in the main start menu. After installing it, you should be able to run it with no problems.

Not exactly true. When I installed it, I had issues with DCC...I kept reinstalling it and uninstalling it for like a year or something, to no avail. One average day, however, I was uninstalling it and reinstalling it as usual (downloading the stuff from the DLS), and, after all these years, it finally worked! The DCC occasionally acts up, but it's much better than before. ;)

Disneyland has new Monorails now?? How I ever been missing out! :o

NIARTcar
May 11th, 2009, 07:49 PM
yup, the just got them, they look extremely nice...but due to the constraints of overhauling the whole fleet, their service is messed up...

you can only ride one way, and its alot harder to get a seat in the front......

my latest experience was that they tend to herd the people like cattle into the monorail, and arn't quite as nice about cab rides: we got completely blown off.... and they will not let you wait for the next monorail so that you can have a cab seat...

personally this irritates me beond all reason that they are opperating like this,.... hopefully when they all enter regular service the order will be restored, and it will be more pleasant...

however, they are wonderfull to look at, a true trubute to their brothers and sisters from the years in previous:D

Bulldog1653
May 11th, 2009, 08:26 PM
That sucks to hear that their service took a dive. I've heard that they ran the new red ragged and forced into an early overhaul.
I'm going to try a little different tactic here regarding the monorails.
This is an 'official' request for any painters or content creators who are looking for a challenge.
The links below (the same ones from my earlier postings) are shots of the monorail tug and the newest monorail design.

If it is "alternitive", are "Automated People Movers" allowed? If so, I might try to model a Westinghouse/Bombardier C100/CX100 and post screenies on this thread.
In the meantime, this isn't automated, but I followed some japanese praticse and created a rough (scale) diagram of a fictional "people mover". (Or rubber tyred metro, depends how you look at it.)

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/wessexelectricnut/Work%20In%20Progress/People%20Movers/Fictional/peoplemoverwebNSEs.jpg (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/wessexelectricnut/Work%20In%20Progress/People%20Movers/Fictional/peoplemoverwebNSE.png)

It follows a simliar japanese pratice, like Osaka's New Tram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nank%C5%8D_Port_Town_Line) (Except using Bombardiers guding system.). And yes, I will model it, once I decided on the other finer details. :)

I don't think you can sell it as payware, because it's using other user's items and assets, and I think you'd have to ask them about selling it. And even if you did, you'd probably have to give a fraction of the amount to them because you used their items in a payware item.

you have to be carefull with this one. Your using a Tm design of Disney (ie the monorails). Which means there is a high likelyhood that they will object to your decision to make it payware.(ie your making money off of what they made, and not cutting them in)

Hello all,

I think that it's about time we set up a topic for alternative screenshots. These can be the Monorails, Maglev train, or other non traditional forms of rail transportation. Hopefully this takes off and is as successful as some of the other topics like USA Pics, etc.

I have a WDW layout I tried to build a shed like the one you have but I am running in problems. I will get some screen shots of my layout.

are you planning to put the Walt Disney World Monorail shed in DL some day if is there where???

Hello Jim,

That shed isn't mine. It was built by someone else who gave me permission to use it. I will be using it in my layout but that won't be ready for a while.

I've been busy on/off on the Seattle Monorail.

Have a look: http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/simracerworld/TrainzMonorail/.

Don't get your hopes up, but I may release it if I ever finish the texturing(doesn't need much) and fix a few prototypicality issues.

One thing I did notice about those vehicles, do they have fire extinguishers under the cabs? I know the 'Metromovers had them, but I am wondering if the other variants have them. Also, is there any photos of the 1971 build of C100s? I am wondering as I would like to see the build differences and compare them to the last builds (to which, I believe that the Miami 1994 builds were the last C100 builds, and then replaced by the CX100s.)

Yeah, I forgot about these pieces, etc ... great stuff here -- in the future, I might create an extension, because the station is way to close to the ground. I've set it to 10 meters high, for underground traffic, but the side beam and the stairs are then high in the air!! Nevertheless, those pieces are a great addition to trainz!!:p

Is the Schwebebahn available for TRS06? i saw the monorail program on travel channel & they had an in depth review of that system.

I've had trouble with the default monorail package in 06,first getting it to install through CMP & then running it in DCC mode...whenever I leave a station the throttle kinda jams up till it clears another stretch of track just a few metres/yards out of the station before resuming normal operation,is there some sort of magnetic brake or something built into the track sections just outside of the stations that could be causing this?

Check these out.

Monorail Black is pulling away from University Street station. The shrubs have been planted there to keep people away from the power substation.

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7676/screen004kd.jpg

Any time I work with a monorail or any other kind of elevated trains, I try to avoid as many direct crossovers and simply raise one beam over the other. Here is the end result. This is taken from the street corner just outside of the main Police Operations Building.

http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/7219/screen003z.jpg

Monorail Red is working it's way over the upper beam and threading it's way between some rather large buildings.

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6704/screen005.jpg

Does this give you any idea of how large some of these buildings are? Imagine having a dedicated monorail system for city trainsportation rather than buses. This would alleviate some of the traffic issues we see in major cities today. The sad fact is that so many people complain about how polluted cities are but nothing is ever done to fix it. Using a monorail would be a HUGE step in the right direction.http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/5562/screen007w.jpg

There are quite a few stations dedicated to the monorail already. As an FYI, I have tried to modify the monorail stations to handle the Maglev and found it won't work due to the track spacing. The same goes with getting the Maglev stations to handle the monorail. The monorail trains are narrower and don't sit as high as the Maglev does.
One thing I have managed to make work is modifying the default airport to handle both the monorail and maglev. The downside is you can't elevate the beams. Look for some pics in the near future.

Bulldog1653
December 9th, 2009, 04:14 PM
Hello all,

As I metioned in my previous posting, I tried doing some changes with various stations to see if the Maglev or Monorail trains would be interchangeable. Unfortunately, I had very little success with some of them. Here are a few shots to show what I mean.

Here is a monorail basic station. I was able to attach the Maglev beam to the track and it automatically changed over. As you can see the Maglev is way too wide to work successfully.

http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/8632/screen001wr.jpg

Here is Monorail Orange at the same station. As you can tell, it can fit the monorail with no trouble.

http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/856/screen002om.jpg

Here's another example. This is a typical train station where it would use standard gauge track. I simply attached a monorail beam to one end and it changed over automatically. Notice that the monorail train is too high for passengers without some changes. This station would not be practical for use with the monorail or maglev due to their height.

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4948/screen007ea.jpg

This has a much better chance of looking more realistic. Passengers would have a little bit of a step up and wheelchairs could be accomodated by placing a ramp at the doorway to the car.

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9977/screen008p.jpg

This is a rather tricky one to work with. I downloaded this elevated station a while back and have been playing around with it here and there. There are 2 standard gauge tracks when you place it. The trick to this is to use the monorail beam called "unsupported station beam" . If you use another beam that IS supported, you'll have support beams poking out through the underpass.

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8508/screen014t.jpg

A couple of final notes: A typical monorail or elevated station sits at a 7.0 elevation.
In this simulation, you can build a monorail train as long or as short as you want to. In real life, Disneyland (California) uses a 5 car train (cab on each end and 3 cars in the center) and Disneyworld (Florida) uses a 6 car train (cab on each end and 4 cars in the center). The trains, once built are not easily separated and move as one solid unit.

Hey Jay...

I like you, how you conduct yourself in these forums, etc always very respectable ... so my good friend, this is what I am going to do for you!!!

I'll make some monorail elevated stations of your liking ... I'll take what you have noted on these posts, and put it into practice ... Also, if there's specific monorail that's given you issues, then tell me who created them, and I'll see about attaining the permission, and extending on their idea, etc.

Also, I can't locate the thread, so just take my word for it, LOL, I'm huge fan of aviation .... I can also make a stations which can easily fit with Auran default airport, however, you might have to use the basic airport. Additionally, sitting in my files are over a dozen drivable airplanes, airport pieces, new terminals, parking lots, etc .. whenever I revisit that project, I'll keep in mind your monorail project ... yeah, I enjoy monorail myself, so all we benefit from these items, LOL

You take care
Ishie

I WANT THAT COLOR SCHEME. Very nice!

Ish6, thanks for your kind words. You said the magic word my friend, AVIATION. I am a student pilot with 17 flight hours (soloed at hour 15) and have thousands of hours in the flightsim (FS 2004) and am a staff member of a very prominent Virtual Airline. Check your PM inbox when you get a minute.

I saw that you were thinking about creating some stations and I'm wondering if you were interested in attempting some hotels similar to the contemporary where the monorails can pass through and maybe have a stop inside.
While I'm thinking about it, do you know how to make any kind of locomotives or cars?

Hey Jay,

For many many years now I have used Microsoft Flight Simulator and X-Plane, using the software as it was intend for; In other words, doing all the flight checks and navcom's, etc ... Since I don't want to get off-topc, I'll PM you in detailed about it. Yes, I saw your invite, and I am honor. I'll talk to you about it, again, in PM since I have not made a decision on that yet.

Yes, I can do all of those requests ... in fact, a while back I did a station where the monoral would go inside a hotel ...it's still in gmax, LOL. In the locomotive department, that's where you got me. No, I have no skills there. Sorry!

Take care Jay ... again, I'll PM about that invite!!

Hey Jay,

I can do some beams/support! If you're searching for trestle type for these, where a monorail track can be place then that's easy .... I'll PM about it in more detail.

Sorry, static monorail cabs/cars are not my cup of tea.:'(

Any chance of doing all of the colors in this new paintjob? I could easily put all of these colors to work in a layout I'm working on.

I May consider making a feew of the WDW colors in this version, probably just the ones that look good in this skeme (have high conrast with the white color):
black pink gold silver teal yellow and green suit the skeme well.
However, I am working on a monorai rapid transit skeme that would be a believable representation of a city transit system (white and black with areas for advertisements)

Ish, plan on a Maglev train that has a cab on each end and 3 cars in the center. That seems to be the normal setup being used.

For anyone who likes to make different kinds of tracks/beams, I need some monorail double beams with the danger warning signs that can be used to tie in with single beam monorail stations. The idea is to have an outside beam for monorails to pass by the station without stopping.

Hey Jay,

I have an idea for a station -- the beams/support is the track, right, because, if so, not sure if I can do such a track for that ... I could do the beams, but I guess i would need to look at a config file to make it track-compatible.

Still, first, going to an experiment here and make a station specifically for the monorail, LOL

Hi Jay,

jjslll54 or Jack -- we know each other very well -- I have gotten permission from him in the pass to expand on his contents -- I've been trying to get in contact with Jack for the longest time about another item he has which I need permission for, but he's gone MIA... If he returns, I see into getting permission to modified /reskin his stations.

The other person I don't know but I see what he has made ...

On the other person, if his stuff is not at the DLS, please don't bother on my behalf. With all due respect to 3rd party creators, I've always believe that contents that people use should be at the DLS, so, don't bother on my behalf on that -- thanks, anyhow.

Right now, I'm going to do some beams and post up screen shotz if I get to finished; But if I don't, then tomorrow I will post the screen shots. I have a few ideas for a couple of monorail stations in mind ... in fact, Jay, I have had this idea for the longest time ... what happens to me is that I, sometimes, juggle, multiple of projects/ideas, and I get lost; But I'll do the monorail ideas right now/ witin a few days.

My reason for delaying any screen shot today is that I have an infant and toddler, and they are both resting ... if they call for my attentions I must shut down the PC, asap ... so, let me beginning by launching Gmax at this time, LOL:wave:

I'm loving what I see here, Ish. On the beams where the monorail rides, are you going to make them look like the default beams and use the same supports you have there? I LOVE the idea of the wide support beams. I'm thinking it looks kind of the the El supports you might see in Chicago.
If you're planning on doing 4 wide beams, were you going to build large stations to handle 4 or more monorails at a time? You've undoubtedly seen a lot of the major stations as large as 8 tracks or more. Something like that might be VERY cool to see.
Also, are you doing these for TRS2006?

Hey Jay,

The good thing about this system is that it's easy and quick to do ... post a screen shot here or pm with a screen shot from the default rail, and I can make it so, etc.

Yeah, I will never release a system without actually doing the stations for it ... actually, I like the idea of the monorail cars entering into a building, etc LOL

Hey Ish!

I've been creating(in 2010), the SMT Maglev line between Longyang Rd. and Shanghai-Pudong Int'l Airport, and I do know that the maglev terminus in Trainz DOES bear resemblence to the one in shanghai, but I was wondering, if it's possible that you could create a more identical model of the station canopy? I don't need anything else other than the station canopy, and I'd prefer it to be in the form of a spline.

I just did a pit stop at your site -- love what you have done ... "The Disneyland" route ... Me, being from Florida, I can really appreciated that, LOL Great work there!!:D

Anyhow, if you like some suggestions, then how about a nice gray textured monorail car with some strips of some-kind, which can then easily be used with my "monorail System version A" system ...

@ALL - Disregard the previous screen shot -- I have redone the monorail "version A" -- the beans are very thick, however, the system should be use at a height of 25m .... of course, you can use at any height but, you will not get the full benefit of displaying the V-SHAPE beans, since the beams are, of my head, 50-meters into the ground, etc

pictures later...

BTW -- I'm done with my traction Route, so now focusing in the Monorail route -- will start after Christmas making the layout, etc ... when done, then I'll release both layouts, etc!!

1st: Where are the pics you want to post from?
If they are from your computer, you will need to upload them onto a host website like photobucket (free accounts).

Hello Guy,

There's a roadblock ... I've briefly read about monorail junctions, and this might be a time consuming object to make, and not sure yet, I might have too skip it. In other words, you may have to use JFE junctions, unless you create a runaround monorail systems.

I mean, it's still up in the air, but for now, that's the direction I am heading!!

@Jay -- forgot to send you the pieces .... I'll do that later tonight, etc

Ishie I love your work can you make a simple station that monorails drivers can go to when they are off duty this station is just a simple building without the passenger loading and unloading ares so I order my trains in AI ti the station until the need in the later the day so I do not have the need to tie up my lines so they trains have to go to their sheds

Hello All,

My stations used with AJ Kit ... (passenger enable)!
Monorail beam and support, and the monorail by itself!!
And, my road -- if things go as planned I will release them all to the DLS. And some bridges that will match the texture for these monorails, LOL

Enjoy

along with my Tram layout, which is complete, and my high speed TGV layout done as well (Claude made the layout last year - modified with my new buildings/sessions), comes MONORAIL CITY -- you will see trees on my grasses and laws foundations, 50 have been uploaded ranging from 5m-25m, etc ... Also, the road is 200m that snaps onto the board, etc those will also be uploaded after I create a nice package of them!! And lastly, the track and field is also an item I made to accompany Deane's superb stadium spline, PLUS, the box-cement texture, another item I've made!! LOL

Hope you Enjoy!:)

Ish, just as an FYI, when someone mentions the Disneyland or Disneyworld monorail lengths, it's a difference of one center car. Disneyland has a cab, 3 cars, and a cab on the other end. Disneyworld has a cab, 4 cars, and another cab.

See,, this is what I get upset with auran -- since they relied so much on 3rd party contents they don't do any contents of their own -- at least, if they do make contents, we can reskinned, similar to what we can do with their art source cd... if Auran would have made the monorail kits and many other items, at least, a start or a generic version, we could have skinned that, without loosing any time -- that's my 2 cents on that!!

@ the street cars.... PCC cars allways go well with monorails, maybe add few LRVs that are capable of opperating on the same line

Tall buildings mean large spaces in between, IE large streets. The key to a less cluttered cityscape is finding the right size strret with the right size sidewalk to space the buildings in a block out. unfortunately by way of sidewalk diversity, trainz is not quite the best, thicker sidewalks are more realistic in larger cities. one of my suggestions is to use either ground textures to simulate sidewalks, or place two strips of the sidewalk parallel to one-another, to increase the distance. in general, just space out you buildings, and back off of the track a little bit, that is the best way to increase realsim in the route.

cheers:wave: ,

Jay, check your in box, you will have an example shot soon

Hi Guys ..

I am huge traction fan so I have always made items to handle this issue -- I've made textures (sidewalks) -- best to use these because it will cover all spaces and it will NOT eat any frame rate ... I have made grasses and lawn foundations, as you have seen from my Monorail City layout -- they should be at the DLS next week -- Hey, NC, you're going to like these for your Disney Layout, LOL
