For most of Japan, you'd need to include a billboard with a picture of Mt. Fuji. Which would look very nice on any layout!:D Would any billboard experts like to make one?

I missing the famous shinkansen JR 0 , the Kodama from 1967 , an chance you build this Train? OK , here my shots....

http://www.redfernworkshopz.blogspot.com/ had something about the Japanese Shinkansen...
here's a quote re japanese trainz, from Wylie

There has been some discussion on the Trainz forums recently about Japanese trains and routes, with a few new items being worked on. This is something close to my heart, since my wife is Japanese, and we have close ties to Japan. Much like my reasons for building NSW trains, I'd love to build some Japanese ones too, since there is virtually nothing available to date.

Yes, I know about the two Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) on TrainzLuvr, but those are a few cars short of a train set, and have other problems as well. There are also two 500 Series Shinkansen on the DLS by Tesla and Votkov. The one by Votkov looks promising but I havnt tried it yet. If I can repair the faults reported by 2K6, it may be the only one which is complete.

Alex

Edit - For some reason, I didn't see the 2nd and 3rd pages... and didn't notice those Shinkansen construction screenshots. Oh well

I'm not sure about the cab, I'm guessing based on my knowlege of conny's other works that yes they willl have a custom cab, but no garuntees. as for the sounds; my best guess is that it will use the same ones as the other shinkansens.

I haven't heard anything about release dates. so please every one DO NOT bug her about it. I don't make that much stuff but I know I would become very discouraged if everyoone was screaming at me for a realease date. It will be done when it is.

Probably not. Conny's NEC was for 06 (maybe 04) and used sp4 content so that would eliminate her from making it for anything pre-04 (unless she really wanted to)

Those are fantastic, no question.

But you know, there's more to Japanese railways than just the Bullet Train, even if the latest one does have cat ears: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4621217.stm.

There's also steam in those forested hills. Here are a few videos I've found of what I personally consider to be the most beautiful steam engines in the world (even topping Britain:eek: )

They have their own anime:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq-b_iNrQaQ

They even have their own game (appearantly):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uj5VTAHtTUo

And they've stared in music videos (sort of). Note the magnificent whistles at the end:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXBwTBlpo1U

This is just plain weird:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxgZ15FBJYY

I have to wonder why more people, especially among our clan, don't know about these beautiful black dragons. But regardless of the reason, I hope I've posted somethng cool anyway.

And if anyone looks at these vids and says "Those are awsome! I want to model one!", There's a lot of info onte Japanese Wikipedia & http://www.kurogane-rail.jp/eindex.html .

Well, that's all I got to say. Peace out, y'all!!!

No. No one's made any Japanese steam for TRS yet (in fact, Japanese content in general seems to be rather scarce). I was hoping that my post would inspire someone to start & to prove that Japan isn't all bullet trains.

But, if you're really desperate, I've seen an Australian 2-8-0 that could seve as a stand-in (VR, black, with smoke deflectors). I know it's not exactly satisfactory, but it's the best we've got.

So, here's hoping that someone starts building one of these magnificent monsters.

I am a TRAINZ beginner:) in Japan.
Unfortunately, TRAINZ is not so popular:'( in Japan.
Mr. nozoming is my only teacher in Japan.
Recently, this thread is sleep.
So, please look at my latest works.

One is EF58, old standard electric locomotive for the express train of old Japan National Railways.
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/5674/080211ef586617trs0604sd9.jpg
The blue-white electric train is keninchiro-san 's type 113 repainted for Yokosuka-line in the Kanto area in Jpapan.
But these are on the standard gauge(1,435mm).

Another is EF15, old standard electric locomotive for the freight train.
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/3186/080211ef156006trs0606mr9.jpg
Blue electric commuter repainted is keihinn-toohoku line in the same area.

Please come to the following my blog, if possible.

Have you seen the World of Trainz tutorials?

I used the Bogey/truck tutorial to get my wheels to turn when I tried to make a working bogey.
I'm also hoping you will edit the config.txt file for SP3, so even the people with older versions can use it. These are beautiful trainz.

Oh my god . . . .

These screen shots bring back memories.

I was born in Yokohama. I lived just 20 minutes walk from the North/South mainline and used take walks down to the tracks and watch the trains for hours back in late 50's to mid 60's . . . yeah, I'm old . . . 56 . . . :'(

I saw all these trains in person. I rode the brown commuter . . . and the green and orange train . . . Saw some mainline and branch line steam action too. My favorite was the D51 . . . I think thats the number. It resembles the UP Northern FEF "elephant ears".

Can't remember the name of the line but I had to take a 20 minute train ride every day to school. Catholic English speaking schools were few and far between in those days in Japan.

My family left Japan for California in 1970 so I got to see the Bullet train, but never got to ride it.

I sure hope many Japanese trains and engines become available on DLS !!

Thanks guys.

Your Type 73 looks great! That's the kind of workmanship I was trying to achieve when I tried to learn to make rolling stock.
I got my wheels to turn in Gmax, but I never got anything to show up in Trainz. I tried to make a locomotive, but all that showed up in Rail Yard was the horn sound.
If your wheels turn at the wrong speed, you might try adjusting the number of frames in the animation cycle in Gmax.

I have two small questions.
Are these in 1067mm gauge?
How do the Tigers look this year?;)

Tokkyu40 san, Thank you very much'!!
I understand that it is a hard time for all beginners:'( .

All my JNR's locos & rolling stocks are on 1067mm gauge.
It is "NRZ 3'6 grassy rusty rails "<kuid2:45676:138017:1> and repainted in my TRS2004/2006.
Thank you for it's author, Barry Campbell (NZRailfan).

And "Hanshin Tigers" is fine in this year.
But others, "Chunichi Dragons" & "Yomiuiri Giants" are more finer.
To our regret, I am not a "Hanshin Tigers" fan.
I'm a "Hanshin Densha (Hanshin Electric Railway) fan.
By the way, "Hanshin 9501", my nickname is the first number of new express trains of "Hanshin Densha".
http://stat001.ameba.jp/user_images/4a/79/10033759009.jpg
The top car of the 2nd train from the right is "Hanshin 9501".
They are my favorite trains:D .
These are repainted from my teacher "Nozoming"'s "KIHA 11".

Tokkyu40 san & other veterans, please help!!!!
In my blog, I'll try to turn wheel of logging bogey.

Please check it if possible.......

Thank you for Edion2 san.
Perhaps, you and I are the same generations:wave: .

A brown commuter train might be "Keihin Tohoku Line".
It goes from Omiya in Saitama Prefecture to Isogo/Yohkoh-dai/Ofuna in Kanagawa Prefecture .
I also got on the brown commuter going to elementary school from Omiya/Yono to Kita-Urawa every day.
This one is kumoha-73, driving motor car in the Type 73 family.
It has a built-in panto. It's so large.
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/3466/0803017306ll1.jpg
And this is kuha-79, driving car without panto in Type 73 family.
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/8779/0803017303mo0.jpg

And then my family moved to Yohkoh-dai in Yokohama.
There I got on the sky-blue commuter of the "Keihin Tohoku Line".
Now I live in Kohshien near Osaka, Japan.
My best regards in the future.

Hanshin san,

I can not remember the name of the line that I took to school every day. but the older trains were blue on the top and bottom with cream color band down the middle. The newer trains were all medium green. I don't know what color they are today.

The line ran from Shibuya in Tokyo to just past Yokohama Central station.

You must have been to Yokohama central station. I will always remember the "Shumai bento" they sold on the platforms. I often bought one to take to school for lunch. And the "Ramen stands" and the "10 yen SUSHI STANDS". . . I'm getting hungry. The company that made the Shumai was right next to the station . . . and you can always smell the Shumai . . . at the Nishi-guchi entrance I think. I used to live only 4 stations north of Yokohama Central Station in Shirahata Kamicho.

When I was a teenager, I used to play too much Pachinko. :hehe:

Its all long time ago. I can Speak Japanese but read very little. I went to a Catholic English speaking school in Yamate, just above the Yokohama Tower next to the port. My father worked for the Military Sea Transport so I spent a lot of time at the Yokohama Navy Base.

I just found this thread just recently. I'll be visiting here often.

I looked up the Paul Hobbs tutorials. They take a different look at animation. Here's the .pdf file for the animation tutorial...
http://www.44090digitalmodels.co.uk/Files/CC_Tutorials/CC_05_Simple_Animation.pdf
Naturally, you'll need a .pdf reader like Adobe Reader to see them.
And here's the parent directory where I found it...
http://www.44090digitalmodels.co.uk/Files/CC_Tutorials/
I hope these will give you enough extra information to solve your problem.

Unfortunately, I speak almost no Japanese, although I haven't given up trying to learn. I toured the Kanto region once on a JR East rail pass and enjoyed my stay very much. I'd like to do it again with a JR West pass and see the Kinki area. I'd like to see the scenic beauties of ancient Wakayama and speak the beautiful language of the Imperial court of Nara. I love Kansai-ben.

The EF 51 is a very nice locomotive, it looks similar to something used in the US, making me wonder if it wasn't an import or a design from the states.

The more I poke through your site, the more I look back to the trams. I've still got the photos I think, maybe over the next few days I'll sit down and see what work I can get done.

Edit: To help you with your english, I suggest this site. http://babelfish.altavista.com/ you can key in the website you wish to translate, or as I will do below, cut and paste the words. It will translate from English to Japanese and back. However please understand that it may not read exactly as it was typed. I'll use the last three sentences I have just typed as an example.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????3 ???????

(this is what happens when I key the above back into it. As I said, it's not perfect but you get the idea.)

From English it translates that from Japanese and the back section. That it was typed, how you understand the fact that perhaps that does not read simultaneously exactly, do happily. I me use the last 3 sentences which are typed exactly as an example.

Hmm. I was looking, and without building a whole new model, I think I can "fake" a waki 5000 bogie freight van using some of the built in contents. Well that and modifying the config file. The bogie Australian box vans are very close in shape and size to the bogie vans. They're not perfect, but I might be able to do some good.

As for other stock, the taki 3000 bogie tanker might be doable, though I could probably build one myself and do better. I might try, it's just a tank car after all, shouldn't be too hard.

A model of the following Logging Railroad Rayout is Tohyama Logging Railroad (TLR:Tohyama Shinrin Tetsudou) in Nagano Prefecture in middle of Japan.
http://ameblo.jp/tlr2007/

This TLR was near Kiso Logging Railroad.
The TLR was constructed in 1944 and then abolished in 1973.
The gauge is 762mm as same as Kiso Logging Railroad.
Therefore exchange of locomotives and/or machinary parts were always performed Kiso to TLR.
The Kiso is the most famous Logging Line in Japan, but too large area for me to make Layout in TRS.
The TLR is about 20km, so it is good size to make Layout.

I didn't know when TLR is live, but I went to see watch the abolished line trace in last summer.
It's great trip. And then I've constructed TLR2007.

Now the locos in my TLR are repainted the built-in OEBB2092.
Logginng cars are repainted the skeleton bogies from the famaous Sirgibby's TRAINZ ZONE.
And my loco is been making as follows;
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8484/080221sakai5t03bogey09gz4.jpg

I was conceited and put a lot of logging cars on my TRS2004.
But some parts of OEBB2092 is disappeared.
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/773/080328fyf13foebb2092f01la4.jpg
Because my PC is poor, does this happen?
Please teach it if you understand it.

I have that problem when I put too many trains on my layout at once. The computer can't draw so many things at once, so something starts to collapse. Try removing one of the trains and see if the roof comes back.

Tokkyu40-san & Dimonio-san, thanks.
I tried to change TRS04's setting.
The min. setting is as follows;
Only the Trains's ssetting is max. and others are min.
Then the roof of only one OEBB2092 is disappeared:'( .
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6139/080401ftlrsakai5tf06fboio4.jpg
But my many loco aer appeared in the reset setting as follows;
http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/5498/080401tlrsakai5t06body0fi1.jpg

But this OEBB2092's problem does not occured in my main PC(Athlon64 3000+ + Geforce7600GT).
This PC has PEN3 2.4CGHz + poor graphic board:'( .
Maybe this PC is very poor, and OEBB2092 data is too big to this PC.

And then my loco is temporally finished:D .

hi Hanshin9501 just a thought open the folder of the loco and make sure all the textures are a factor of 2 ( 64x64 , 128x128 , 256x256 , 512x512 )
sometimes all you need is one texture to be the wrong size to do crazy things

hope this helps you

Electro-san.
I checked size of textures.
The OEBB2092 has main tga.file which is 512x256.
Is it iregular size?
My locos have 1024x1024/512x512 tga.file.
Thank you.

i tested the size of your texture on one of my models with no problems :)
a couple of Queistions for that texture,

1 is that texture used on any other part of your loco ? if not resize it to 64x64 or 128x128

2 in survayor lay a pice of track, make the track height 20.00 place your loco on the track go in to driver mode go to Exturnal view rotate round to the back then down , Do you see the inside top of the loco ? ?

if so you will need to rotate the top round or redo the top so the texture is on the out side of the loco :)

Ganbatté!
Hanshin san, don't hesitate because you are a beginner.
Nanji no katana mijikakeraba, ippo susunde as the admiral put it.

Anyway; regarding textures anything binary will do. The "normal" being 1 x 1 and 2 x 1 does not exclude 1 x 4 or 4 x 1 textures being used at all.

In my experience large logos or company names on the sides of locomotives or waggons are better rendered using a rectangular texture layout rather than a square one.
But in the end what makes up the perfect format for a given model depends on many different factors, and you will soon find your own way of doing things. The best advice I can offer is to keep going.

Hi, all TRAINZ veterans.
Thank you for your suggestions/opinions etc.
I want to continue this work all the time.
It will be only shortcut after all.

Now I'm conscious to use 1024x1024 size tga.file for loco bodies.
Because my 3D-model is poor:'( , so it covers it's fault , I think.
Likewise I also use 512x512 size tga.file for bogies.

Your 3d modelling looks very good to me.
You might try using 1024x512 .tga files for the body and see how it looks. A smaller file is faster for the computer to read, so if it looks good it would improve frame rates. Some trains with a lot of details will still need the larger image.
Your skills are growing quickly. Congratulations on your inspiring success.

OLR (Onzui Logging Railroad) is a logging railroad that existed from 1924 to 1968 in the Onzuigawa valley in the Hyogo Prefecture of West Japan.
The total extension of it's season was 42.5Km, and the main line (from Ueno to Onzui) had 24km and the branch lines are the Kankake line, the Akazai line, the Naka-Onzui line and the Mangadani gorge line, etc.
The gage was 762mm(2.5').

The following OLR SAKAI 5t F2 is a bogey type diesel locomotive for Japanese logging railroads.

OLR had 5 branch lines with many inclines.
Therefore, OLR made & operated light mini DLs only for the branch lines.

The half of the operator's cab is occupied with the charcoalgas generation device.

I've seen a lot of nice urban Japanese layouts on these forums and this thread and connyxy's Shinkansen thread, and I hope someone might be able to help in my main Trainz (2006/SP1) project, Halsiburg, which is a work in progress and has been for some time.

My routes main city has a Metro line, twin track all the way, which starts in the Seaport (passenger Ferry terminal) at the Eastern border of that city, proceeds to serve the city in its entirity before moving on the Western suburbs, the Airport, where it terminates about 2 km South at a small Japantown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japantown) called Funabashi.

A BIG thank you to Kenichiro BTW  without whos Japanese style buildings on DLS I would never even have been able to entertain the idea of building a Japantown.

The problem is that it's not really working out as well as I had planned, and for this reason, in my "Project: Halsiburg (http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=39080)" screenshots thread there are no photos of the town and the Western terminus of the Metro system within, and while I have the option of continuing to work on it and overhauling it, what I have read on these forums suggests that it might be a mistake for me to attempt to do this alone.

I therefore humbly request that one of you guys who have nice urban Japanese layouts to share it with me for a good cause - it does not require any railways lines added and I only require a miniscule amount, about 2 by 2 baseboards (total of 4) with any more (unless to the North) being overkill. When Halsiburg is ready for publishing, I will credit anyone who helps in the DLS description.

Sugoi ne!! The first Japanese steam engine in Trainz! Congratulations Hanshin-san! ;)
Sure it is. As long as you don't count the Kiso Forestry 0-4-2T released last year.

If you model the drivers and rods, there are plenty of people (myself included) who can animate them for you.
Or, if you want to learn how to animate it yourself, here is a tutorial:

If you'd like to try making it, I have scaled profile drawings with the main measurements for the 1936 and 1950 models of D51.
I looked at the measurements of the model and they seem a little big. I don't think its actually 1/30 scale.

I would love to offer my assistance in any way it can be provided for bringing these black beauties to life and the public. Because my TRS06(ver.2.6 Build 3335) have had many troubles:'( in my old main PC*.
Therefore I can't buy TCs/TS09 because I am scary:confused: .
On the other hand, my TRS04(ver.2.4 Build 2370) is light and steady in my old PC:D .
I love TRS04.
In TRS04 I know the structure of files in TRAINZ well.
Recently my TRS04 has become slow at the time of starting of TRS04:confused: .
Especially at the time of loading route by the driver/surveyor, caching works slowly:confused: .
Maybe It is caused by enlargement of TRAINZ data.

But TRS04 is faster in my friend's maker made PC** .

Your PC is great:udrool: .
Now I'm thinking that I will make/buy new PC.

Please teach as follows;
1) Can you use SLI mode in TRS04/TRS06/TCs/TS09 in windows XP?
2) I want to use GeForce 9800GTX+.
Is it effective for TRS04 and others ?
Because I can't buy GeForce 8800GTS now.
3) Do you recommend Core2 Quad with lower GHz or Core2 Duo with higher GHz ?

2) I want to use GeForce 9800GTX+.

Yes the 9800GTX+ will work great with all Trainz

3) Do you recommend Core2 Quad with lower GHz or Core2 Duo with higher GHz ?

As the Quod core i have now is my first one i carnt realy answer that Quiestion but i would think the higher the better but thats just my thoughts

Hi ,
for Trainz, higher Ghz is much more important than the number of cores.
TS 2009 uses the second core for the AI , but all the rest is still running at the first one , so speed is more important.

Memory : 4 X 1GB DDR2-800
Video Card : GeForce 9800 GTX+(250GTS)
Power Supply : over 500 Watt

OS : Windows XP Pro 32 Bit

for SLI
CPU : Intel Core2 Duo E8400~E8600
Motherboard : ASUS P5N-T Deluxe
Memory : 4 X 1GB DDR2-800
Video Card : 2 X GeForce 9800 GT

The Transportation Museum has been moved to Omiya. According to the articles I've seen it's pretty incredible. Naturally, it was closed while I was there.
Also in the Tokyo area is the Edo Tokyo Museum. This is an absolute must! It's big and exhausting, but very well done. You won't want to miss this one.
On the border with Chiba prefecture is the Urayasu Folk History museum. The English audio guide comes very highly recommended. It's by the Urayasu government center almost straight north of Disneyland. It's actually closer to the Tozai line, though.
Over by Haneda airport is the Ota Folk History museum which is also said to be exceptional. These are museums the tourist rarely know about or get a chance to see.
Don't get suckered into seeing the view from Tokyo Tower unless someone else is paying. It's expensive and not as good as the free view from the government building in Shinjuku.
Hiroshima has the Yamato museum near the Kure shipyard. Take a translator with you if you go, since I hear that none if it is in English. Lots of displays on the famous ship, plus Leiji Matsumoto's epic comic (and TV series) "Space Cruiser Yamato". This was mangled in English as Star Blazers.
Osaka has a very nice transportation museum plus a Maritime Museum where you have to walk through a tunnel under the bay to get in.
Enjoy the trip. Let us know what you thought of the Chiba monorail.

I love steam locos and diesel cars of any country. I greatly expect TS09 to create my favorite cars.
Here is my work, Japanese diesel car 'kiha40'. That is under construction, only a body is the original. I'm now struggling to make boggys.

Please visit my blog also (written in Japanese).

keimei, there's a download link for this kiha loco on your blog. where can we find the bogeys please?

Very Cool Though,

to PJAMA-san;

My kiha has tenporary bogeys at this time. I use 'desiro' bogeys <kuid:123588:50642>, which TS09 has. Also, enginespec and enginesound are temporary. Thank you !

You going 1st class or 2nd? I just got off it (twas sunday...but anyways) 2nd Class was a bit of a let down. I was expecting it to be very nice no matter where you were; but second class seemed like a cheap airplane to me. oh well it was worth the $$ to ride it anyways. (I think I'll look into upgrading to 1st for the return :) Although you must remember I guess that they are now considered "old" trains really (1994) and our standards have come up from there.

I have uploaded a diesel car kiha40 into DLS.
http://keimei.moe-nifty.com/knr_news/images/kiha40dls.jpg
kiha40(42in) <kuid:438196:1118>

- w/ its own 3'6" bogeys DT22, downloading simultaneously.
- no cab, no interior.
- using desiro's engine-spec and sound, preset of TS09.

Is there any recommendable engine-spec for this kind of DC? Kiha40 have one engine, hidrodisel, 15000cc, 220PS/1600rpm.

I plant to upload more kiha diesel cars next week.

Regards.

Hello! From right now my E231 Hornsound is avaliable in the DS. For use it is very simple. Just delete de line "hornsound" in the config of the unit, replace it with the kuid given in the .CDP (kuid:219417:231) and youīve done. This .CDP includes a hornsound, and a closing door sound (B key)

I came back from Italy:).
Because it is irrelevant to the theme of this thread, I put only one photograph.
It's ETR500.

My family got on 2nd class coach from Firenze(Florence) to Napoli(Naples).
Still, the travel on Eurostar was comfortable:D .
I explored from the lead coach to the tail coach.
I took photographs its front and side, then I will make it some time.
That's all:wave: .

That kiha40 looks awsome, just like the rest of your creations. It's a pitty that they're 2009 only :'( . Keep up the great work.

We'll have to either upgrade our computers and buy TRS09 or learn to make our own locomotives.
I looked at all the pictures in the Download Station. There are beautiful trains.

The Freccia Rossa are "repaints" of the previous ETR500 Eurostar trains of Trenitalia. Mostly a maquillage operation to create another tiket's category (expensiver...). They should be polytension trains to use on the new 25KV AC lines and on the previous 3kV DC.

ETR500 are available at www.trainzitalia.com (http://www.trainzitalia.com) on subscription for Gold Member.
From what I know, there's somebody working on the Freccia Rossa's repaint.

Uum, I have no idea to say about any conpatibility between TS09 and the previous version, because I've just bugun Trainz from 2009(I possess TS09 only).
Thanks.

JNR Type 9600s are variety.
No.9687 was made from the original No.9633 changing number plate.
He runs with my feight cars in my TRS04:D .
The No.9633 on my last post is temporally numbered.
