View Full Version : Downloading routes, sessions??

I'm still a newbie, haven't downloaded any routes to actually drive till now. And I'm a bit confused.

I just downloaded Kauai_2008. That is an absolutely fantastic layout, very very pretty! But I'm surprised that after creating such a huge layout, with such detail, tracks for airplanes and all too, they wouldn't make a session for it? Am I missing something here? Do I have to look somewhere else for the session??

Another thing that has me puzzled: It says in DLS that the route is 32MB, and it is, but by the time you've downloaded all the dependencies, it's up to 400MB total! I don't have a problem with that, I just got a new PC, so I have lots of power and 500GB HD just itching to be used, and I also have a FCT for download and a very fast internet connection, but not everyone is that fortunate. Wouldn't it be nice/practical if somehow somewhere you were told just how much you needed to download total? This could be a nasty surprise for someone without a FCT or on a slow connection. Maybe when somebody uploads a route they should put this kind of info in the description?

That's a very good point but as layouts often share numerous dependencies the creators cannot predict how much additional data you'll need to download.

Welcome to Trainz downloading, BTW!

That's true of course, but it might give kind of an indication on just how big the "package" might be.

Any thoughts on sessions? I've downloaded a few routes, but there are no sessions, or I can't find them???

After some more searching I actually did find a session for Kauai, great!

There's another thing that would be nice to have in description (how to find the stuff that goes with the route, he he).

Getting ssssmarter every day here.

Thanks for the pointer Roy.
