The GS-4 Daylight, MK-5 2-8-2, MT-4 4-8-2, P-10 4-6-2, A6 4-4-2, GS-7 4-8-4 leased from Cotton Belt, SP-1/SP-2 4-10-2, and the massive 4-8-8-2 AC-12 cab-forward are all high-quality Southern Pacific steam locomotives that are available for Trainz. It is thanks to lilb, trainboi1, stevelerro and wgkandsk that we have a full roster of these locomotives at our service. I wonder aside from individual reasons, why SP steam is popular to model in this game?

Now that is the MOST silly question to ask.

Maybe its because people like sp? I dont know. I mean, we do have a lot of steam fans out there and SP engines present themselves as a unique challenge.

I saw these 2 Trainz screenshots of Daylight on Facebook, and I was wondering if anybody knows if this engine and consist are private, or if they're available somewhere to download.

But the AC-12 cabforward I know of was made by lilb, and if that is the same cabforward, how did they get permission?

Well ether way, here (https://web.archive.org/web/20131209164602/http://steamtrainz.org/completed.html) is an archive of the link for lilbs AC-12 cabforward originally hosted on steamtrainz,it is A Wayback Machine link, but the download is archived, and the locomotive works fine for me without adjustments in TS2010,TS12 and TANE.

But I did replace the whistle on the one I got for one that I thought sounded better.

Trainzlane
June 24th, 2018, 07:35 PM
Just downloaded the suggested AC-12 model, really good, especially like the detail of the "TISH TISH" sound when idling, reminds me of the audio system at the CSRM setup to make 4294 sound like shes steamed up and ready to go.

Only things i don't like:

Tender uses coal
Crew in the cab, while animated, looks bad
and i have to agree with railfan500CA, the whistle is pretty bad, nearly on par with trainz forges GTEL and the basic ES44AC models on the DLS.

I actually live just a short freeway drive away from the CSRM, been there and seen SP 4294, SP 2467, and SP 6051 plenty of times. Been inside the cab forwards cab plenty of times aswell. As one could expect, i have a affinity for SP steam:udrool: (UP steam too)

Anyway, now all i need is a "cab rear" (basically a cab forward in the more normal cab configuration, they also had GS-4s skyline and cowcatcher streamlining...for some reason) and i can die a happy trainzineer.

(P.S Where does that "TISH TISH" sound come from? I have heard it not only from old footage of cab forwards, but other steam engines, both real footage and trainz, as well. I would expect its some kind of air/steam regulator?)

Don't we have that?

Maybe its because people like sp? I dont know. I mean, we do have a lot of steam fans out there and SP engines present themselves as a unique challenge.

I thought up some reasons why:

SPecialization: From the start, SP had to deal with many forms of land and environs, from the cold and rocky donner pass, the southern deserts and the expansive farming valleys. This lead to SP having to preform various engineering feats, both for the routes they made and the engines that ran them, the cab fores and the SD45T-2s (SD45-2s modified so they would not overheat when heading through the tunnels and snowsheds on SPs system) being prime examples. SP also helped develop many technologies such as refrigerator cars (specifically its joint UP PFE fleet) to help get CAs produce to market.
SP had many interesting locomotives, not only their cab fores but also things like the K-M 4000 diesels

Paint: I have heard SPs daylight scheme be called the most beautiful railroad scheme in the US, something i do agree with. (despite me liking all US railroad paint schemes, and my belief that the best SP scheme was black widow)

Routes: SP had some of the most beautiful routes, from Donner pass to the techapi loop, and they had their beautiful daylight passenger trains to run through them.

Affects on the lands around their lines: SP left a major mark on the people and towns of CA, from helping link the state to the rest of the US, attracting new people to come to the state, and helping to turn the state into a major farming and economical powerhouse by helping move the states produce to country, and world wide markets.
One statistic that shows how big SP was in CA is the fact that at one point half the population of Sacramento, the capitol of the state, worked to some extent at the sac shops.

SP also heavily affected those who lived by their lines, and many old Californians can attest to seeing a SP train at one point in their lives, and i would not be surprised if the company inspired many to become railfans and hobbyists. I was certainly inspired (Well it was UP by the time i was born, but you get the idea)

So...yeah.....those are my ideas........kinda got abit long at the end there but...i think it got the point across.

(P.S did anyone see what i did with the word "specialization"? Anyone?)

Alright hang on to your pants cause I'm about to drop the SP bomb on y'all.

I have a GS-2, GS-6 and GS-64 megapack coming out soon on The Backshops yes, these are payware. Price has yet to be determined. We are currently waiting for licensing from UP before it can be released. And yes, you will be able to use PayPal to pay. The pack includes all GS-2, GS-6 and GS-64 engines in multiple variations and a full 1937 Coast Daylight consist for them plus the additional cars that showed up later on the train. I've also got a SP Lark set coming out later using these cars, but I've still got a lot of work left on them before I'm ready to post any pictures of them.

https://i.imgur.com/UODMmm5.jpg

Aside from the content listed above, I've also got a GS-4, GS-3 and potentially a GS-5 as well in the works. Right now I only have 4425 finished for the GS-3s and 4449 for the GS-4s. The roller bearing bogeys are done for the GS-5 but I haven't gotten them in game yet. Right now I have 4449 in her 1980's era appearance. Still on the fence about whether I want to keep my GS-4s and such private or release them, or if there is a demand for them or not.

https://i.imgur.com/10W7mzy.jpg

I've got a new AC-10/11/12 Cab Forward in the works, this is also going to be payware. Again price is undecided yet. Its really a test of my skills, I haven't built a articulated engine yet so this is kind of a experiment.

https://i.imgur.com/0bNqaNE.jpg

And lastly I also have a SP class M-6 2-6-0 in the works as well, this one is going to be freeware. Right now I'm just cycling between the Cab Forward and this to keep me from getting too burned out on one engine.

As freeware, yes. If you are releasing content that uses companies or the likeness of the Union Pacific (SP, WP, DRGW, etc.) you need permission from the UP since you are profiting off their trademarks. Freeware isn't for profit so you don't need licensing for that.

Well i was the one who commissioned the MT-4 and the SP-1/2 to be built. I did plan to have Lilb also build an F-4/5 2-10-2, but i lost contact with him after the Sp-2 was built. I am an SP nut and love the distinct modifications that SP makes to their locomotives as well as their wide variety of uses on the systems.

The Union Pacific has a dedicated page on their site that covers the issue of acquiring licensing to use their trademarks in for-profit actions and for goods and services. They're aware that some people seek out permission from them to use UP trademarks in stuff that they sell, especially if it involves a hobby involving railroading.

https://www.up.com/aboutup/corporate_info/licensing/index.htm

For a company that would potentially use UP Trademarks in model railroading-related goods and services such as Bachmann, MTH, or Lionel, in these times, they had to get permission from the railroad company to use the trademark. For an entity such as the Backshops that sells virtual or model railroading hobby-related goods, they would also have to get permission from the UP to use the company's trademarks in their products.

WOW! I didn't think you'd make 4449's auxiliary tender! There's hardly been an accurate model of 4449's second tender and, as such, had to use 2 GS-4 tenders instead to compensate.

Along with its DLS coaches, because a much newer version of the AFT engine can be found here: https://daylighttrainz.wixsite.com/jprc-repaints/locomotives

I don't mean to be offensive anyone, but even if Daylighttrain's GS-4's were released,I would have sticked with Lilb's GS-4,but I would have got Daylighttrain's GS-2's and GS-6's,but Lilb's GS-4 is perfect after a whistle replace and a new engine sound.

You can see how highly detailed Lilb's GS-4 is in these screenshots on the TS12 Mojave Subdivision...

http://images.n3vgames.com/trainzportal/mytrainz/801903/screenshots/80871/1000/My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpghttp://images.n3vgames.com/trainzportal/mytrainz/801903/screenshots/80872/1000/My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpg

Lilb even payed attention to the build plates to,along with a plate that is American Freedom Train related.

http://images.n3vgames.com/trainzportal/mytrainz/801903/screenshots/80873/1000/My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpg

And with a bogey replacement Magicland's SP daylight cars are not all that bad...

http://images.n3vgames.com/trainzportal/mytrainz/801903/screenshots/80868/1000/My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpghttp://images.n3vgames.com/trainzportal/mytrainz/801903/screenshots/80869/1000/My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpghttp://images.n3vgames.com/trainzportal/mytrainz/801903/screenshots/80870/1000/My-Trainz-Screenshot-Image.jpg

Sure, the bogey I used that was made by Lilb doesn't fit on there perfectly, but it looks better then Magicland's old bogey which was good at the time it was made, but outdated now. Magicland's coaches need the shine removed on them and then the coaches will be good enough for me.

Where can I find this GS-4 engine? Is this model private? Or is there a link to download it?

It's at JointedRail, link here (http://jointedrail.com/product/sp-gs4/),but the one I used in the screenshots was one that I cloned for personal use so that it had the white walls on it,which came with the pack, but by default the black wall ones were on there. But you need an account to download at JointedRail, but it's well worth making the account since then you also have access to Lilb's steam era rolling stock and a camelback steam locomotive, also made by Lilb, and everything else in the freeware section at JR along with there payware including two SP 4-10-2's,which are definitely worth buying, and I have one of them to.

Lilb may have made the GS-4 in high detail, but he didn't make 4449's auxiliary water tender in high detail. Plus, we don't even know if Daylight has called off the Daylight pack or if he's going to release them on another site, or if he's going to release them at all, though I'm sure that, in time, he can confirm his intentions with the pack.

You do realize that those bogeys have 3 axles, right? Daylight coaches usually had two. Though I understand your feelings, and also from the fact that older bogeys like to rotate at a certain speed on an infinite cycle, and it gets irritating after a while.

Is it true that you ended your affiliation with The Backshop, and left Trainz? And does that mean this Daylight project of your's is being called off? If so, it would be a bummer, and I'm sorry to hear about it.

I have the loco and tender, but the only passenger cars I could find are almost dayglo. Is there a place to get the cars in Railfan's screenshots above? I could try to modify the ones I have, but I haven't looked to see if it is color or alpha or what the issue is....

The cars RailFan500CA are using are on the download station by magicland. There is also a set on there done by trainboi1.
I darkened magicland's cars a little bit to match them to lilb's GS-4. Except for the shine on them, it is not too bad.

While trainboi's cars don't match the GS-4 perfectly, they still work well and are a perfect match for his P-10 and A-3 class locomotives.

I could not find any other bogey at that detail that fit decently except the bogey that Lilb used on the 40ft boxcars, and those bogeys were way to small!:hehe: I will get a screenshot later of it. I could try some bogeys used on pullman coaches later, but I want to try to make Magicland's coaches somewhat Lilb quality so that it matches reasonably with Lilb's GS-4. And yes,Magicland's SP daylight coaches are on the DLS,although they were originally made to match with Mrtrain's GS-4,and they had a build number of 1.5,they were updated to build 2.9 so no need for error fixing.

You mean the triple diner-kitchen-restaurant thing? Yeah, magicland's is still available on the DLS. Tavern car too.

Far as Trainboi's Daylight goes, all he made was the locomotive.

Didn't bother to even craft an auxiliary water tank.

EDIT: Hold that one, it took me a minute to realize what was being talked about. I don't think Trainboi even made the triple-kitchen setup or the tavern car. Sorry about the confusion, I was thinking of lilb's version.

I just had an idea for Daylightrain and his project. We know he’s no longer affiliated with The Backshops. But if he’s still waiting for permission to release this, and if he DOES someday get it, then if he’s looking for a place to release it, then if it would help, I’m gonna suggest 2 places for him to affiliate with to release it.
1) K&L Trainz, because the quality of their payware content is great and highly-detailed.
2) JointedRail, because they released an SP GS-4 before, but as freeware. However, if they can release a Daylight engine once, I wonder if they can do it again, but as payware.

If he even decides to release them at all, I think Jointed Rail is a better option. K&L Trainz does have great-quality content at an affordable price, but if you take a more in-depth look, you'll find that most of K&L's content was created by Steve Lerro. There's hardly any content that's made by anyone else outside the 3-man team at K&L, and I think they plan to keep it that way.

Then there's his old website.

Just found out it was on the Backshops' Discord page and those lucky enough to get it did before it was taken down. But also from what I've read we're looking at a possible release on Trainz Forge. I also found a YouTube video showcasing EVERYTHING. GS-2, 4, and 6 and 64.

Compared to today's standards, maybe. I still use TS12 myself. But I also have TANE installed. And now that some model makers have specified their models to the latest, I may end up getting TRS19 in the future. Now in terms of whether they work in TS12 or not, they do.

I agree, it is. I personally can't use the TRC system because Vincent upgraded the trigger to T:ANE and didn't leave an older one but he thought he did. I am looking forward to TRS19, though I will not be buying another game from N3V for the next 10 years. I also will not be purchasing it for $70 USD. That is too much for a game. I can go get a Digitrax LNWI I want so badly for $80. I also don't care what the next one brings...probably nothing we don't have already at the rate they are "developing" it (again, like 95% of this game is made by the people who play it). I think I'll be content with TRS19 for around 10 years just because I think it will always look brilliant, even when we are in 2030. Of course they might take longer or shorter then 10 years to make 2 more games though.

I don't think this is true ... Updating assets breaks things making them unusable for legacy users
