View Full Version : On roads - cars are riding through trams and vice versa - looking for solution

Hello,

I'm looking for a solution for the following

In my tram/train route, within parts of some cities, cars and trams are riding on roads with tracks ( see screenshot ).

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/dalpo4gkk9nk1ew/roads%20cars%20trams.jpg?dl=0

This means that in those areas, cars are riding through the trams and vice versa.

I did an experiment doing the following thing - connect a road with cars with a road with no cars. However, this was not a good solution, because when connecting a road with no cars with a road with cars, cars are riding on all the roads, yes even on those with original no cars.

Does anyone have a solution to avoid cars riding through trams and vice versa?

Kind regards

This may be totally "off the tracks", so to speak, but from your screenshot it looks to me like the car traffic (not the stationary spline cars shown) would be travelling along the road as they would be expected to do if the tracks were not there. Add the tracks and both the car traffic and trams are now sharing the same physical space but the road and the tracks are completely different and independent systems with no way for the trams to tell the cars to "get out of my space". As far as I know, there is no Trainz solution to the problem of separating cars from trains in this situation.

My thoughts only - I prefer to keep road traffic and trains separated but I appreciate that trams and cars often share the same road in the real world.

The carz will run through trams and other assets placed on the road because there is no collision detection for the procedurally generated cars, or anything for that matter. To get around this, I created one-way roads and roads without traffic by editing existing roads. Using one-way roads, I ran the roads on either side of the tracks and placed the tracks on a median. The same could be done using a grey-tar surface for the tracks with one-way roads placed on either side of the tracks.

One-way roads, remember, need to be placed down in the opposite direction the traffic will travel.

Hello pware, John,

Thank you for your replies.

Have you ever tried a test with Boat's ATLS-system?

Kind regards

I haven't tried anything with Boat's ATLS system with this.

When building my city tramway I removed the car lanes and put on single lanes without the norm of cars then inserted the "invisible" line for cars to run in on top. Vwalla.

Hi Belgian46,

Yes, ATLS can be used to stop cars going down road sections when a tram comes. Though it was meant for road junctions rather than a long section.

The King of trams on roads is paulzmay. Do a search for his 'Bridghampton Metro South 2' route on the DLS. It may give you some ideas. Its a TS2009 route so not sure how it runs in TANE. But you can see what he has done.

Hello rjhowie,

Thank you for your method. I will see if I can implement it in some parts of the route.

Kind regards

Hello Boat,

Thank you for the extra information. I'm busy downloading paulzmay Bridghampton Metro South 2 at this moment. In the following days I will see where it brings me.

I will do some tests in TS12 and if all goes well, switch to Tane.

Kind regards

It's probably also worth downloading my Hampton Mall route, as that also has a long length of tramway along a road with traffic.

The secret is to keep the tram and road speeds close, and make sure trams and cars don't enter a stretch of road at the same time.

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your " secret " information. Your Hampton Mall route will be for tomorrow :)
