I have been wondering and I don't know if anyone has tried it. But with Windows 10 coming this week, thought I ask that will Trainz (09, 10, 12, T:ANE) will be able to run on Windows 10? Especially for those STILL have Win7 hopefully to upgrade it to windows 10. Thought I might wait until some of the apps have support for Windows 10 (and might have to back up everything before I do so) and until if the reviews come and ask if I SHOULD or SHOULD NOT upgrade to Windows 10.

I've been running both TS12 and T:ANE on the preview of Windows 10. The current build, along with the latest drivers from NVidia that came out yesterday has proven to be the most stable. Overall, the performance with Windows 10 is much, much better than previous versions of Windows including both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Having said this, W10 should run both TS2009 and TS2010 without issues if you can run both of these versions in Windows 7 or 8.x, they should run fine in Windows 10. Just follow the usual install and run as Administrator just as you would with other versions of Windows, as these are older versions of Trainz which need that.

I recommend upgrading as this has proven to be a good operating system. That said, I highly recommend backing up your data prior to upgrading. This is a recommended practice anyway no matter what operating system you have, whether it's Windows or not. Having a good data back up means that nothing will go wrong, and is a good thing to have anyway. Always remember that data can't be replaced but programs usually can.

Yes, works on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 8.1.1, and 10. I think even TS2004 can do so. MSTS can, and a few other old items, too.

Since you brought up TRS2004, it makes me wonder if Midtown Madness will run on Windows 10. It had a few bugs running on Windows 8.1. Ah well, will have to find out tomorrow more less when Windows 10 is released!

It's worth a try. Try running with admin rights and see if that helps. The worst is it won't work at all. I used to love that game!

The Rollins Pass 1915 Route made for 2004 runs fine on TANE, and will hopefully do so for 10. I have both 8.1 and XP on seperate systems. I dont plan to go to 10 until they get a reasonable desktop that DOES NOT HAVE THE TILE INSANITY..i have no idea why MS thinks that was a good idea, i dont and will never ever use. it. but glad it sounds like 10 will not obstruct our ongoing work for Trainz.

In Windows8 the French guy who invented the "Tiles" got fired, when the entire world was in an uproar over the stupid tiles ... and then an app was created that gave Windows8 the look and feel of previous versions ... I will be with Windows7 till it fails.

There is no reason to jump headlong into something brand new, just because it is bright and shiny, as it just may be a highly polished barney :hehe:

You don't mean that one particular Purple Dinosaur, now do you?

@Jcitron, It was a few graphic glitches Midtown Madness had on Windows 8.1.

The previews suggest it will still have those horrid tiles.

The latest build, the final before the retail, aka the RTM build, does not! :)

The so-called tiles are now small icons on the start menu and the rest are hidden away under small icons just like a real start menu should. :)

Windows 10 was built in Windows 8.1's enviorment, and still retained 8.x Metro interface very early on in development. Like how Windows XP was built off of Windows ME early on.

Ok......well now that Windows 10 came out today, apparently I'm still waiting to the OS to be downloaded or i can't find a Windows 10 icon. I had to hide it because it was annoying my notifications.

Not everyone is getting it all at once. I have two machines ready for it, but are not receiving the deployment. Other machines in my house were upgraded last night.

Although many of the programmer's build machines were probably Win8.x, the official build machines were most likely Windows Server. Windows XP was based on NT technology which came after NT4 and Win2000. Windows ME which was a 16bit OS which ran on MSDOS, was most likely not used to compile a 32bit NT OS such as XP. More likely it was Win2000 or NT4 Server.

If you are talking about Ballmer, he was not French. (He was born in America.) He was basically 'encouraged' to retire due to events surrounding the Surface tablet. (Lost billions of dollers.)

PS: I liked Barney. :)

Edit: Sorry, Just noticed I double posted.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and TS2012 isn't working for some reason, can't even get task manager to shut it down unless I reboot the entire computer.

Something has been going on for the past day with the servers. Many are currently having issues running Trainz 2012
