solved slow load time in win 7 with trainz 06
see
yee haa I've sorted this :-) below

So I loaded the latest offering form MS and it did seam faster...
But trainz 2006 ho what a desaster. hence last in benchmark tests.
I could go make a coffie while I waited for the layout to appair in driver or suvyior...

So here are some benchmarks for the 3 opperating systems
all 3 Windows are running on the same computer and set up the same.
All trainz versions are preinstalled from ages ago.
The benckmake is simple, It has nothing to do with what video card.
It is more about the acces times for diffrent opperating systems.
You know the one; you start a big layout and wait while it loads.

Best to not load the version of trainz you have been running as that will give an inaccurate test. Best restart PC then test

I'd like your speeds results also as outlined so we can confirm what I've found
Windows 7 looks like the best for 04
Windows Vista is the best Opperation system for Trainz 06.
If you have trainz Classics 3 Vista is best for you
If you have TRS2009 then Windows XP is for you (how odd is that; the newest Trainz runs best on oldest OS and oldest Trainz runs best on newest OS.

I'm hoping that others can also time this and confirm that...
A) Windows 7 is slow REAL slow with 2006
or
B) My computer is not good
To do this benchmark test you will need 2 opperationg systems installed on one PC and at least one version or trainz. Assess times will very. The important thing is the diferance in load times from each persons OS not who has the fastest rig.

TRS2004 Trainz 2004 benchmark

Open Trainz 2004
Go the Driver
Wait till all disk activity on your computer stops
Time the amount of time it takes between clicking on Highland Vally Industries, 4 Driver Tutorial and the Highland Valley 2004 Tutorial screen appearing
Windows XP 16 or 17
Vista 15 seconds
Windows 7 12 seconds

Therefore on my computer TRS 2004 runs best in Windows 7
Can anyone confirm this

Trainz Classics 3 Benchmark

Trainz Classics 3
go to Driver
Wait till all disk activity on your computer stops
Find Carlisle Skipton, Thames Clybe Express
When the selest train control Mode appears just click ESC continue counting untill the BR Britannia Loco Appears and note that times also
Windows XP 1.17 the another 1.08 for the loco to appear total time 2.25
Vista 22 the another 23 for the loco to appear total time 45
Windows 7 1.09 the another 1.19 for the loco to appear total time 2.28

Vista is miles ahead on this one, anyone care to confirm

Trainz 2009 TRS2009 Benchmark what OS

Open 2009
Go to driver
Wait till all disk activity on your computer stops
Top right enable compablity mode is on (never got round to testing it as off)
Find Toronto Rail Lands 1957
And click Eastern Yards Way Freight
When you click on it time the number of seconds it takes for the Select train control mode screen to appear
Top right enable compablity mode is on
Windows XP 20
Vista 22 seconds
Windows 7 24 seconds

I'm surprised to see that XP is the quickest OS for this version of trainz. But there is little between them

Trainz 2006 TRS06 Why so slow in Windows 7 Benchmark

Open 2006
Go to driver
Wait till all disk activity on your computer stops
Find Toronto Rail Lands 1957
And click Eastern Yards Way Freight
When you click on it time the number of seconds it takes for the Select train control mode screen to appear
Windows XP 12 or 13
Vista 12 or 13 seconds
Windows 7 90 seconds
Windows 7 right click on desktop TRS2006 icon, click open files location.Right click on TRS2006 in the newely open window and click properties. Go to the Compablity Tab. Tick the Run this program as an administrator
click ok. After you do this the benchmark result will be the same as Windoes XP and Vista
BUT
After playing some more like go into suyavior there is a major slowdown in trs2006 when I'm useing Windows 7. Infact I'd go so far as to say windows 7 and TRS 2006 do not work well together. Anyone that can say otherwise I'd be most welcome of your comments.

Another note When I first got TRS2006 in late 05 the Toronto Rail Lands 1957 layout was huge. Not now. I do note that Vista is able to display lots of content more quickly than windows XP... As an example. The layout loads and the train loads it passangers and drives over a small bridge before the loco appears. This is in XP . But in vista the loco appears just after the passengers have loaded. So although the layout load time is the same . The quickness of content aperaring in the layout is noticabbly faster in vista.

Once again the tests have been carried out on my rig and others need to comment to confirm or reject what I've said. Windows 7 is RC1 at time or testing

I have to agree with Trainz 2006 running super slow on Windows 7 (both 32 & 64 bit versions), which is why I ditched it a few weeks ago and installed Vista 32 bit on the 7 partition. 2006 both ran slowly and loaded slowly...so slowly that it was unplayable on any layout I tried. It just wasn't worth it. At least Windows 7 Release Candidate is free! :hehe:

Just curious, what is your setup, mostly the processor and hard drive speeds, as these will have a major impact on load times in any game.

Kyle

Generally speaking until a new version of an operating system actually ships there is code in there to help with debugging so you can expect pre release versions of Windows 7 to be a little slower.

Cheerio John

This is great news, fabulous news, for it means I can keep 2006 and XP and be confident in it's optimized access times! Excellent!:D

This is a concern as I have a 4 gig intel with NVidia graphics...
To those that don't know there are 2 sorts or PC's.
Mine and Kyles Windows 7 did not work on eather well
It is a concern because it is something that may well carry ford to the final product.
I'd be thinking that it is to do with dot net1 which was has and still is dogy.
But I'm thinking Kyle that you would not have loaded that in the 64 bit version as it's incompatible. Am I correct in that

John it is not a LITTLE slower it is 12 seconds verse 90 seconds... It's people like us out there helping people like you. When you go to get that new rig it may well come with Windows 7 and if you use 2006 well now you will check.
But guys its not all one sided. John makes 3D Models like I wold like to if only I knew how; and for my favorite railway company to.

Once again Trainz 2006 load times in Windows 7 is increadably slow. (Once the map is loaded it plays fine, but big mapes take forever, like 5 minutes loading)

Me like kyle will be going back to vista. Shame as the TV software 7 comes with is great

If anyone has 7RC1 working well with 06 please speak up!:p

I think that the slowness might just be because it is not a complete or 100% stable OS and the slowness in the game was because the ATI video driver I was using at the time wasn't a stable Windows 7 driver, but it was all they had. Catalyst 9.4, I think I was using. I'm sure there won't be too many problems with Trainz when Windows 7 is released (or at least I hope so...).

yee haa I've sorted this :-)
The issue is only with a totally up to date version if trainz 2006 (all the service packs loaded)
I know as some said it worked and some said it did not there must be a solution
So the solution is
install trainz 2006 and updated it to service pack 1 (i feel that 06 really needs sp1) as per instructions from makers
Instructions were re sp1 dont run trainz before you apply SP1
then I copied across The local folder
I did a full data base repair
The load times are as per XP :-)
now I can do retro trainz
IE
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-772450652905047503
and TRAINZ 2012 is of cause where I do my modern trainz and that other great sim looks great but with no point and click it is not as much fun
If anyone tries loading more SP's for 06 I wonder where the slow load times comes in ???

This thread is almost 3 years old and I am guessing that very few of us are using 06 or have it installed. I am presently running TS12 with mostly TS10 content on a WIN7 32 bit system and load times are a non-issue for me.
