Wow, An Impressive Goal to Strive For

Having a passing interest in niche games (Trainz included, my Dad plays it all the time, and I used to as well before I switched to Mac several years back), I thought I'd pass this along. Man, this is really something to aim for, I hope that some day we have out of the box scenery that looks like this from the upcoming version of X-Plane (scroll to the 9 January 2011 update), rather than this (note the absence of most of the wheel there).

X-Plane is a sim developed by an extremely small team (like 3-5 developers), programmed on Macs using OpenGL and simultaneously published for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. And they're able to achieve some pretty impressive details like these, on "moderately fast home computers," which the user will rarely see since they're flying hundreds or thousands of feet in the air above it. Phenomenal.

I really hope some day the N3V folks can take an approach of updating what's in the box rather than making incremental improvements to the engine and packaging scattered, dated, and disorganized community content into a box.
