I found an article on train commuting in England after the Second World War and it mentioned wooden compartment trains.

Does anyone know anything about these trains?

Ahh, London Underground T stock. Yes, believe it or not, these were London Underground trains. They were only allowed on the Metropolitan Line and worked between Amersham and Baker Street/Algate. Sometimes also out to Uxbridge. They were built/converted between 1925 and 1927, with 2 different sets of coaches used.

The T Stock were divided into MV and MW stock, MV being the Vacumn braked stock and MW being the Air braked stock (Hint, V = Vacumn, W = Westinghouse)

Although they appeared wooden, some stock of the MW had actually wooden effect exterior panels, while MV had fully wooden bodies.

All however were withdrawn in 1963 when the Amersham stock (A60/A62 Stock) replaced them from the Amersham runs, ironically, the Amersham stock is due to be replaced this year.

And yes, there is a half completed model for Trainz, I have it and I have not bothered to export it yet. If there is demand, I might rebuild it.

Thanks, that answers a lot. I wouldn't mind having wood sheathed cars on the local line. I think they would be classy.
If you finish the T stock, I'm sure it would be very popular. I already have some wood bodied Gresley cars which look really good. the T stock would complement it well on the layout.
