Been having a bit of trouble lately trying to get windows to boot up.PC has been hanging on the select Account screen or when trying to change users it just hangs there & I have to do a reboot.

Got that bad I have re formated my PC as it was coming to a standstill. After re loading I found some articles about SP# causing problems with AMD based PC's,which I now think may have been the cause as I've never had this problem before.

Anyone with AMD having any problems with SP3?

That's Bad News Dave....

Sorry to hear of your troubles with SP3. I too use only AMD chips in all my PCs. I am not surpised that something like this happened and I firmly resolve: "No SP3 for me." btw no vista either.:(

I have an AMD athalon and I installed SP3 several days ago and it has been working fine for me:confused:  Of course then again the computer tech had changed somthing in the bios to make it work with games only ment for intel etc. If that has somthing to do with it is beyond me....

The SP3 issue and AMD cpus is related to companies such as HP using the same Windows image for both AMD and Intel cpus and not getting the image correct for both. If you installed from a Windows disk then there is not a problem.

Risk vs Reward?

Only OEM HP? There is a risk as stated in the first post. What is the reward?

I found this using Google. It appears to be technically correct but I don't know enough to be certain that all he suggests is safe. Read carefully, then tread carefully. Backup any data files that you care about before doing anything that might have drastic consequences.
