Windows XP Pro X64 and TRS2006 Compatible?

My system is:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 Mhz
Nvidia 680i Motherboard
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX GPU
Windows XP Pro X64 OS
4GB Ram
(2) WD SATA 400GB HDD
The game goes not reside on the same HDD as the OS
No virus protection software installed

All the newest drivers are loaded and up to date. I had to do this for several other games so I know I have the latest from everyones sites.

When the program first started up it initializes and goes through a large checklist of items like core speed, driver dates, and so on. All of this initialized correctly and had green lights on it all.

I installed Trainz like I did on my older xp system (32 bit) and started the game. The initial screen comes up asking if you want to start trainz, go to the web, enter CCP... and so on. If I start the game the Auran logo appears, and then a "tips" screen pops up for a 1/2 second and then immediately the program shuts down. I can how ever click all the other links and the program operates correctly.

I have also tried to Run the game in DirectX and Open GL. Both have the same results. I have also adjusted the graphics from high to low settings and it still crashes. I am logged in as the admin.

Will the game work on a 64 bit system. I found the 64 bit .net installs on the cd but there was also VB 6 codes as well and I know VB 6 will not run on a 64 bit system. Can anyone help me? I would love to see how this runs on a killer machine.

Also people mention Alan's post from last April. I went through his posts but they only go back as far as April 25, 2007. Thanks you to anyone that is even willing to look into this problem and help we solve this.

P.S. ~ I will get the log files from TRS and post them for all you to see.

Edit: Nevermind

Just a note, I have gotten Trainz to run on 64 bit Vista before, so it should work, don't know why VisualBasic won't install. Also, as far as I know, Micro$oft no longer supports Visual Basic.

Vista is nice if you do every day computing but gaming and programming is alot more complex on a vista 64 bit system. XP x64 was designed off the old Server 2003 OS. So its stable and runs programming and cad software just like a traditional XP system. The user never knows the difference except that everything opens faster and image rates are clean. Now that everyone has drivers out for all the x64 OS's out there things are becoming increasingly more powerful and usable. New technology is always a pain in the #$% when it first comes out. Us users are the ones that find the problems and they fix them or we do....

Microsoft supports it but not VB6... Only VB2005 and newer is supported by Microsoft and on a X64 system. I have VB2005 and Visual Studio 2008 Express that both work great.

You might do better with TC. XP 64 bit is a little different to XP 32 bit, people have got TC to run under Vista 64 bit, I think the Vista 64 bit operating system is a little better than the 64 bit XP operating system at running 32 bit things and also TC definitely is better behaved under XP than TRS2006 ever was. It doesn't need admin access etc for example.

You could always have a look at the Microsoft 32 bit virtual machines though you would lose performance.

Sorry for hijacking but - will available memory go down using 32bit virtual machine on XP 64bit ???

Dunno, depends if there is a virtual machine specifically for XP64 bit. If you have to run one of the 32 bit ones you may be limited to 1 gig. It depends on which virtual machine you run. VMWare have one that gives a bit more memory but I think the Microsoft one is free.

Trainz should run on XP x64. I have used Trainz on it, and it ran fine. I am now running Vista Ultimate x64, and Trainz runs well on that. The only catch I have with Vista, at the moment, is that DirectX runs better than OpenGL. OpenGL, on my system, has some graphic anomalies that occur in Vista.

i see that you have 4gb's of ram so a virtual machine may be the way to go but does win xp 64 support compatibility mode back to xp 32 if it does i would try that if not a virtual machine may be the only way

if you would like i could send you the 2 programs i use to make virtual machines fo any os (if you have the install disc) you can set the ram it has hdd space processor usage the lot i use it for linux

Poppins please do send me the VM programs you use. Emmett@mackite.com As for Xp x64's backwards compatibility. Most games will run on it being in 32 bit format. Some like trainz may need small mods or I have a config file somewhere wrong. Two days ago I found out I didn't have my network drivers installed. Nvidia did a great job in forgeting them. Can't miss what you don't start out with. I am not sure if Trainz starts up looking for a network link. Anyway tonight I will get the dxdiag file and place it up here tomorrow. Thanks for everyones input.
