why isnt trainz 12 on steam?

how come trainz 12 is not on steam yet?

Maybe because Steam sucks??

I BOUGHT 2 games from Steam, paid REAL MONEY and they decided I needed Steam installed to play the games I paid for...NEVER AGAIN!

Couldn't update patches when every one else did (2 weeks later they finally do it) so I was out of those games until Steam decided to pull their finger out.

I then took the loss and bought the games AGAIN (not from steam) so not to deal with Steams crap. Make one wrong move they don't like and you lose all the games you paid money for, by banning your account, hence you cant use 'thier' games that YOU paid for..what a great deal aye?.

Auran/3DV stay far away from Steam or you will be sorry..

---

Another possible reason why is because if your internet connection goes down, you will not be able to play Trainz at all.

And, lat but not least, when Steam decides to stop supporting your product (or if they go out of business, get bought, merge, get desperate for cash, etc.) then you lose your investment anyway and have to buy it again. (If you can.)

Why on earth..?

I can only speak from personal experience here, but Steam has really been the bane of my gaming life for a long time now. Several games have been completely ruined by utilizing their engine, the customer support is almost non-existant and they charge a fortune to take over your gaming. I used to love playing the Total War series of games, not any more. I pray that Auran stay well away from Steam (unless it's a locomotive, of course), it simply will not do them, nor us, any good whatsoever.

I once bought a game that promised to be intriguing called 'The Ship'. In very tiny print (I missed it until after I'd bought the game) it required me to join Steam and create an account. This took me two weeks to get done because their site kept throwing me off, or resetting the page in the middle of my creating my account.

I finally got an account created and then my game started working. It worked for almost a week until Steam, in their judgement, said the following "we have noticed illegal activity on your account and have therefore closed it". My game stopped working. I could never get them to tell me why they thought I'd done something wrong - heck, I'd only run the game maybe three or four times just to see what it was like.

I'll never attempt Steam again.

Ditto. "Total War: Napoleon": When I parted with my $100 I didn't notice that the small print required Steam registration. It took me 2 days to get rid of all the not-quite-malware that the registration downloaded onto my system. It is the only game I have ever bought (and I have bought some real rubbish) where the disks landed in the bin. Not that there was anything wrong with the game - there wasn't - but the 'Steam' thing... Yerk.

Why on Earth would you not just buy Trainz direct from Auran? They get a bigger cut, stay in business longer, get TS2014 out quicker....

I just don't get it!

Andy

I would never buy anywhere from but the direct Auran site, and wait weeks for the Disc to be delivered via "Snail Mail".

In this day and age, people are so used to instantly getting something ... when I was a kid I sent away 6 cerial boxtops and $3.95 for a plastic army tank, that said: Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery, all the way from Battle Creek MI ... lol:hehe:

You obviously were a bad bad boy:hehe:

I looked at steam simply because I got a couple of games free with my video card, if I would've had to pay real money to go through that stuff, I would've been extremely unhappy.

Now it's not that I have anything to hide, but I'm not going to open my PC to inspection by someone I don't know who they are. That's really what you have to do with steam and quite a few other programs I might add. But as Bill noted they noticed what they thought was illegal activity either on his account or on his machine. There is no appeal, and you're just screwed.

But I know Auran/N3V policy regarding steam, they're making a version and it will be there eventually. I personally would give up gaming if steam were the only option.

Now there's nothing wrong with buying the digital download from Auran/N3V. Unless you just want to wait and have a DVD.

Because you can take those six files and a text file with your serial number and it and burn it to a DVD (dual layer of course) or two DVDs (single layer) or you can copy them to an 8 GB flash drive or memory stick or external hard drive etc. etc. etc.

And I've got access online to everything I bought dating back to 2006 IF I ever need to download again.

So if you're looking for an instant gratification answer, Auran/N3V's digital download is really the only way to get the files in your possession quickly.

After my share of third party websites selling things and not coming very good. Its better to go straight to the main company it maybe cheaper other places because they cut corners.

I suggest you buy the Collector's Edition and wait for the airmail. When you receive it, do not open it in case it increases in value. Then order the download from Auran. Now you're in good shape!;)

Guess I'm the only one not having issues with steam, however I don't have trainz on there, nor do I plan too. Snailmail Box-copys for me!

Cheers

Steam for ever

Nope. I have two adolescent sons who have convinced me that Steam is the future. All the games they have bought in the last decade or so have been delivered through Steam.

They have never had a problem with it. Updates are delivered and installed electronically, they can log-on and download all the games the have purchased anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection, and most games are made so that they can be played off-line if a connection is not available. And it seems that Steam is in a much better financial position than the US Government and all the European states combined. And who says they are going to disappear?

Us oldies may just have to get used to the fact that the digital age means exactly that - everything comes in digital form delivered by electronic means directly into our own homes.

Well, Valve owns Steam..... they may be worth $2 ~ 4 Billion.

But.... even billion $ companys can go bankrupt..... like GM, Chrysler, etc.

Read this:

But they may not have the debt of the USA and EU.

Have fun,

What does the financial status of a company have to do with anything? Yahoo, Walmart, Adobe, Microsoft (twice), and Amazon have pulled the rug out from under users of their DRMed products, leaving them with worthless purchases they cannot use.

If Steam is the future, I will not be gaming...
Digital Download and owning your own game is much better..You REALLY want someone telling what you can/can't do and when you can play/not play a game you paid good money for? You (and your sons) should seek some professional help if you prefer that..IMHO

We are the stupid old far*s

Now hold your horses, "Grumpy Old Bartar*"!~! --

I didn't say that I prefer Stream. In my sons' eyes I'm one of those silly old far*s who wants something solid in his hands.

The younger generations have a much more relaxed view and see Steam as the distribution system of choice.

Us oldies might not like it, but that is the way the world is moving.
