Which locomotive would you be and why?

If you were to personify yourself into a locomotive, which one would you be and why? Would it be Steam, Electric, Diesel-Electric? Which Maker? Which Model? Would you haul freight or passenger trains? Would you be on a Class-1 or a Shortline Railroad? If so, which railroad?; It can be an active railroad or a fallen flag. What Number would you be? Would you be in the yard, on a main line or branch line?

For me, I would be Reading and Northern SD50 #5022. The paintscheme nicely matches the colors of the trees and rocks lining the frightening granger of the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania. I would haul both passenger and freight because R&N haul both freight, coal, and passengers on excursions. I would be on both main and branch lines because I have a lot of work to do!

So, which one would you be?

I'd be NS 2626, a EMD Diesel-Electric SD70M. I'd haul freight like coal and intermodal trains methinks. (I chose NS 2626 since NS is my 2nd fave and UP didn't have a 2626 I think)
The paint scheme is a great and simple one. I'd say I'd be on the main line/subdivisions. (There is a BNSF 2626, but it's a GP35 and GP35's aren't my style :hehe: )

AWVR SD40 1206 to the rescue at 60 mph in reverse dragging down the out of control consist which greatly over powered it to save the day. It was like the cavalry coming to the rescue. Best scene was it storming through Arklow right behind the runaway, horns blaring.

I would want to be the SAR&H class GL Garrat pulling 20 full passenger coaches passed full beaches.
I would be very popular because I am so scarce , if I am overloaded with work I would just pull out the couplers or break the knuckles. ( Like I seen them do many times )
I would under stress though because I would be dying for someone to create me to work in Trainz.

cascaderailroad, I been wanting to ask you about this locomotive when I saw it the first time , did not want to sound stupid but I am willing to take that chance now - is this a fictional loco or did they really run/are they really in use and where ?

Yes the Baldwin Millipedes were real. They were actually called 'Centipedes.' They were one of several diesel locomotives made by Baldwin Locomotive Works in their attempt in becoming a player in the growing diesel locomotive market. The Millipedes were intended to be used on high-speed passenger trains, but there were several problems.
1. Whenever one Millipede had a serious problem, the next millipede would be redesign to resolve the problem and improve its performance, which means that each locomotive has its own electrical, and mechanical design which ment that no Millipedes were mechanically or electrically compatible with each other.
2. Because of these problems the locomotives would not make a complete trip to its destination without breaking down.
In the end, the Pennsylvania Railroad's Millipedes ended up in helper service and being used in yards. A far cry from pulling the fast passenger trains they were built for.

The "Millipedes" is a complete fictional laugh, as the design would not round curves at all, and never was in the making at all ... The Centipedes however were a PRR brainiac/mechanical nightmare, shortlived, and totally awesome, 16 traction semi-permanently coupled motor power !

Is the question here what loco would you like to be in aspirational terms, ie. the one that you most admire? Or is it which loco you think is most like who you actually are?

If the first, then obviously I envision myself as a sleek King class 4-6-0 steaming full speed towards Bristol, or a Duchess Class Pacific pulling powerfully out of Euston with a Glasgow-bound express, or maybe a Deltic thundering up the East Coast Mainline at 100 mph.

If the second, then I'm really just a clapped-out old class 08 shunter clanking slowly up and down the siding of life!

Why? They were the MKT's version of modern, multi-purpose diesels: they could do everything from drag freight to passenger to switching, and everything inbetween. Also, they're just adorable; my favorite is No. 532, and each one had its own look and personality as they were modified as they aged into their golden years.

Unfortunately, none survive in real life...now if you'll excuse me I need to get out of here before my tears short out my keyboard.
