I"m really wanting to get trainz 2010. Is it better to order the actual game itself, but then you have to wait for it to come in the mail, but you have an actual copy that came in a case or is it better to download it onto my computer?

Where are you? In the UK Mike10 ships from within the UK once notified by Auran of your order, not sure where else this works. Don't buy from "Just Trains" though as they are obsessed with copy protecting everything so you need to keep their disks in the drive all the time.

Downloading's obviously quicker, and you can save to a disk anyway (but you won't have a nice printed sleeve or disk). Downloading worked fine for me, though previously I've always bought a disk.

Has anybody had any problems downloaing the game?. I live in the united states. I would like a hard copy but i don't want to wait to get it, soo, i'm kinda leaning towards the download..

I never had any problem with downloading it at all just depends on your download speed ,however if you decide to download it start the download and then leave your computer alone untill its complete ,once it downloaded i burnt it to a disk as iso for a back up and always use the disk to reinstall if needed when i reformat my computer for whatever reason, while you are making up your mind you might as well download SP1&2 before hand
regards steve

Personally, I prefer physical product, so I bought the boxed editing, though that was pre-release. Fortunately, Auran doesn't install ridiculous copy-protection/DRM (though some third-party resellers do) and I would be willing to do the download going forward.

Hello,

Yes some folks have reported problems in the download process. For a successful download, you must use a download manager such as FDM (Free download Manager) which you can find via a quick google search. Once FDM is installed you should not have any problems with the download!

Definately use a download manager and don't get worried when nothing seems to happen. It takes a loooooong time. And then it will want to update the database (which it has to make and fill) Go watch a movie>

If you buy it via a disk, then you have a back up, if something happens to your computer. But if you do insist on downloading, I would do as others have stated, and to make to a DVD/CD. I don't think that's against Auran's copyrght - for a back up.

Also. people have advised NOT to use flash drives to back up, or at least just use flash drives as temporary storage.

Hi,

Just as a follow up - there are 5 large files in the download pack - plus the email with your serial number.
IF you don't have fast reliable broadband you may find that you get frustrated with the download process (it took me long enough to d/load the S&C add-on - that's only 1 file).

There's no problem - I understand - in burning these files to a DVD (far too large for a CD). That gives you the physical back-up. Do remember to keep a opy of your serial nmber !

I agree with the others here. The download can take a very long time, and make sure you get all the files. I made a folder to hold them in one place.

I also copied my serial number to a text file. - Opened notepad, copied from the receipt information and pasted. I then called the file serial number.txt, and copied that to the DVD when I burned the rest of the files.

When you install, ensure that your drive is defragmented. This will speed up the install process, although as the others have said here, the process will still take some time, particularly when you install the service packs.

Good luck,

John

I live in the UK. The disadvantage of downloading is that, depending on your internet speed, it can take hours and hours. For me it took about 8 hours to download 2010 and if your internet connection goes down you have to restart downloading that file all over again.
The advantage of downloading is that you get ALL the routes unlike the disc I bought from Just trains which omitted a lot of the older routes.
