It's similar to the are you a railphtographer thread I know but if you can please include a picture taken by yourself the time, the location(city and state), the name of the line or division, and if applicable what's the street name and the Engine type and railroad company.

Here's an example

This took place at Old Greensboro Road in Danville,VA on the Crescent Route A.K.A what's on my signature. This happen around 11:00 AM this Norfolk Southern the lead engine is an ES40DC. This train had to stop due to engine trouble.

I go out to the canal by Yeoman yard in Tampa sometimes to fish, but see more trains than fish out there. I often fish near railroads in hope of seeing trains, but don't always have much luck aside from Yeoman. I would love to see the juice train on the lift bridge over the Manatee River, or the street running in downtown Tampa which also goes over the old drawbridge over the Hillsborough River, but I have no idea when to catch them.

The Niles district of Fremont California where 8, well actuall now 7, routes come together.

Anywhere between Miami and West Palm Beach, FL depending on what I am out for.

-Local action - Miami
-Mainline-Broward or Palm Beach counties

My soon to be new spot in Commerce, Georgia. I'll be helping friends open a tavern there in a few weeks. Open the front door and there are the tracks! I don't know much about operations yet but I'm told a local freight creeps through town once or twice a day. I did see a Norfolk Southern power move, so I know who runs there. As far as I can tell from satellite maps, the line only gets used for a few miles south of town where there appears to be a silo, a stub yard, and a bulk car lot. The line looks abandoned after that, but it's hard to tell from the maps. If anyone has any info please do share. The pic below is not mine. I ruined my camera taking it fishing.

I love to railfan at the diamonds in Tuscola Illinois!
You'll see CN/IC, CSX & UP.
My other favorite place is the Monticello Railway Museum. But that is only on weekends, when I am working...there.
I also like to railfan at Villa Grove Illinois, Chattanooga TN, Harriman TN, Arthur Illinois, Mattoon Illinois (at the baseball field across from the IC yard), I want to go to the NEC, Clovis, North Platte.

I railfan at Petersburg, Virginia. It's a little known hotspot south of Richmond with a double track CSX main line with a small yard passing over a single track NS main line. We usually see 20-30 trains per day on the weekends. During the week the action is a bit less. We get a lot of NS coal drags and CSX freights, as well as a north and southbound Tropicana Juice Trains, a fair bit of Amtrak commuters, the Amtrak Auto Train, and some trains that go into the yard. I don't have any pics of my own but if you go to http://rrpicturearchives.net/locThumbs.aspx?id=149179, you'll see what I mean.

Sorry for the 20 day bump but if you still want info.................
The line through commerce is the former Southern Lula to Athens,ga branch. NS has a job, P11 that runs from Commerce up to the main in Lula every weekday i believe. from the pictures ive seen it tends to run in the evening. On weekends you are likely to find a set of power parked in the siding at the 441 crossing, these days tends to be a pair of GE Widecabs.
You are right about the industries, there is quite a bit just south of Commerce proper, theres a Goldkist feedmill with its own switcher, a auto plant ( i imagine traffic from thats slowed down a bit) and a pulpwood plant i believe.
The rest of the line down to Athens is not abandoned, just sparesely used. There is no online business except for a Louisina - Pacific particle board plant in Center,ga but i believe that has shut down now. Beyond there the line is run by the Athens Line RR, a local shortline, NS goes down to center about once a week, generall a tuesday or thurdsay to interchange with them.

Norfolk Southern's Danville District. Was just there today. We went to the amtrak station. Good spot to see both north and southbound trains. You can see the signal and MP 235 and MP 236 to tell when trains are coming.

The NS Fostoria-Lima district, In Findlay about 150 yards from the B&O Yard Right next to the switch "east end Evans" I stand down in a reserve down next to the switch or up on the bridge, I like it better but there arn't very good pictures from there. Its located between the Grain Elivator and a rubber company between the rubber company is the B&O Yard and The First Cooper Tire Plant. The bridge goes over I-75 and the NS Line, We only get NS SD40-2 Hi-Nose's the numbers 3320-3325.

Once in a while i goto the NS&CSX Dimond, theres little traffic but..Its a cool place...Note I bike to all these places, for the I-75 Bridge there is a Crossing about 2 miles back...I have too bike 2 miles (given that the trains go only 10 MPH here, i only have 6 minutes to go 2 miles...It sucks but it is worth it, the drive helps though...I do not have any good pictures just a cell video and its horrible all the talking and such...

After what I've read recently on these forums, I'm thinking of making a road trip to "Ebony Gap"!:o
