When is track not track?

Track Warper
I'm building a route using Beadtyboy's MagLev Guiderail <kuid:37522:1001>. This "track" and at least some of the other third party tracks apparently aren't recognized by TrainzMap so I can't print out the layout. I'd also like to be able to change the type of track which you can do with TrainzMap if TrainzMap recognizes it, which isn't the case with the MagLev Guiderail.

I've tried to look at the config.txt files for things that are recognized as track versus things that aren't but I haven't been able to decipher the tags and parameters to know when it's track and when it isn't:confused:.

Can anyone give me some guidance? I'd rather not pull up all the track and lay down another 100 miles of another track just to print out the route.

Thanks in advance. -Walt

Walt, spline track is indicated by the tag "kind" with a value of "track" in the config.txt file. It will also have a tag "istrack" with a value of 1. Here's the 1st few lines of the config file for the maglev guiderail track:
Code:
kuid <kuid:37522:1001>
kind "track"
istrack 1
isroad 0
length 30
width 2.7
bendy 1

This identifies it as a train track spline.

It does show up in TrainzMap for me and I was able to replace it and the new track showed up in Sureyor.

I have both TRS2004 and TRS2006 installed and I use TrainzMap ver 1.0 that comes with 2k6 SP1. It will work with both 2k4 and 2k6. You also should have TM rescan after installing new assets.

Thanks for the explanation on the track tags. And for the re-scan suggestion. I'd rescanned only routes but after doing objects, the MagLev tracks showed up. Guess I should read the manual. :)

Have you had any experience using TrainzMap to replace items, especially track? Does it do junctions and preserve the locations of signals, trackmarks, etc?

I guess I could experiment but I'm having enough trouble trying to get my drivers to follow orders.

Thanks again, -Walt

Hello,

Earlier TrainzMap versions (before the one that came out around the TRS2006 SP1) had big problems showing tracks that used a Kuid2 number - so in case other reading this thread later have a similar problem and a rescan don't work, please make sure you have the latest version of the TrainzMap program. :)

Best wishes all

Linda

Walt, TrainzMap makes the replacements by changing the kuids stored in the track file - each track section between end points defined in the file has a kuid stored with it. This should preserve juctions and trackside objects. I haven't had any problems thought I haven't used this feature a whole lot.
