So...

 It's funny to me how several of these reports lately have emerged...no accidents involved.

Yes, a ton of rules were broken but at least two of three commuter rail wreaks lately involved lone drivers text messaging.

I think my point is that safe ops demand two operators in the operators cab.

I don't believe a certified operator would actually leave the cab whilst a non-cert. driver would run their train, but I do know that a driver that had a cub in the seat is more focused to identify danger ahead.

It's kinda funny, how you hear more commuter train accidents alot more than freight and Amtrak trains. Well, I never rode in a commuter, and I don't like em' and never will. Amtrak is fast enough for me going at 79 mph. but isn't commuter trains run and operated by the city instead of an independent rail company? Maybe that's why there's no strict rules.

Just say NO to Texting & Cellphones while driving...

Texting is a no no for anyone walking, biking, operating an automobile, bus, or a train. Cell phones are a bad distraction, and many States are making using them illegal while behind the wheel. As they should be. I pull over and park, to talk.

Only RR trains have 2 personell in a cab (Engineer & Conductor). ROCO trains don't even have a Conductor, they just have one operator. Most subways and monorails have a lone operator at the helm.

Permitting an unauthorized, non-company, non-trainee, civilian, to try operating a train, for getting the hands on thrills of being and actual engineer...is ludicrous:eek:

One news report had a video of a Metro operator, dozing asleep at the controls !

Au contraire, mon frère at least in the Chicago area. The commuter lines are run by the Class 1's, both UP and BNSF.

I would actually much rather travel by train then air.How many plane crashes have there been this past two months, 20?

Guys, do we really need to dig up a thread that is well over a year old, simply to "agree" with another post?

Please remember to check the last post date prior to replying to a thread. I'm not against bumping up a thread if new/relevant information is posted. However, simply saying "I agree" (even if you use many more words) really isn't needed.
