what to do

Normally, if you have registered your serial number on Planet Auran, it should always be there (Profile>Serial Number or just Serial Number - see above) so if you lose the physical copy of the serial number, you should be able to retrieve it on the Planet Auran site. If it is not already registered on Planet Auran, then yes, you would need another copy of the game.

Also, if you have registered but forgotten the user account that you used to register it, then contact the helpdesk with full details of your name, where you purchased it and any possible account names you may have used to register it so they can do a search. They may not be able to help but it never hurts to try.

well i had the game on my shelf for many years, since i did not know anything about registration at the time, i did not want anything to do with it. so i was not able to register it. and now we moved so the manual i had it in disappeared completely. and now i need to download some very desperate, badly needed updates

There is one other possibility.

Check for a file called config.dat in the Settings folder in the TRS2004 folder.

If it is present, open it in Notepad - your serial number should be in there.

If it is not present, you will need another copy of the game.

oh man, i don't see it, o well is there a store here in the us that still sells trainz 2004 other than the deceased circuit city?

OK, try the Cache folder - the serial number is usually in a .dat file (on TRS2006 it is in <trainz installation folder>/Settings/config.dat. I would have thought it would be in the same or similar location - can any TRS2004 users advise otherwise?

Dang...I could use a working 04 disk...then I could create routes in 04 and import it to 06...but I'd be stuck not being able to upload or download without the UN & PW...if you had the UN & PW I would buy the disk off you.

I wouldn't recommend ebay. You could wind up buying a game that's already been registered and that won't help you a bit on the registration.

This shouldn't be an issue. Check that the seller has plenty of feedback, make sure they are currently selling other software, that the item is brand new and that the company has a return policy. And don't buy from a private seller. That's all you need to do.

Ebay has become more of a cheap retail outlet, dominated by companies rather then private sellers.

I think you may have a tough time finding a copy of '04 in a retail, local store. The internet may be your only choice.

hey, i would suggest that you contact the help desk and MAYBE they will send you another serial . you will need to have a copy of your receipt and details of purchase (i.e where you purchased it)

ok, i will see if i could find it somewhere, the manual that is. funny thing is that
i had it all the time at my old house and now disappears.
