What Missing Content?

When I start to reload a layout that I have made into Surveyor in TRS2004, I get a message that:-

"Some custom content used in this map is not installed on your computer. This may cause unexpected behaviour"

Now, any custom content in the map is stuff that I have downloaded and is all available to me from within Surveyor!

If I try to download the alleged missing content, I get the following message:-

Trainz was unable to locate the necessary custom content on the Download Station"

As I cannot discover any assets that are missing from the map, I am quite happy to carry on as it is.

What I would like to know is how do I get rid of that annoying message every time I try to load the layout ito surveyor?

Hi Ian,

In surveyor there should be an option in the drop down menu to delete all missing assets from the layout.

Kind regards,
Another Ian

To make sure you dont get unexpected restults from deleting the missing dependencies it may be wise to use TrainzObjects. It can be used to find out exactly what stuff you are missing and you can then make an informed decision to remove them or download them (in case existing assets are in someway damaged and unrecognizable by trs04).

link for TrainzObjects below

Good luck,

Thanks Ian, I had forgotten that option in the drop-down menu because I've never had occasion to us it before!

Thanks Lenny, I did check it with TrainzObjects, and it informed me that I did not have any missing content.

So I attempted to remove the annoying message by means of the option in Surveyor's drop-down menu.

Result- I'm still stuck with it!

Any more suggestions would be welcomed!

Have you tried resaving the layout under another name after trying the remove missing objects command, and then reloading that? I've sometimes found that the process of saving and reloading will clean up minor corruption issues.

Ian,

Have you by chance created a session? This happens when you have wagons and locomotives in the session, and can be in fact correct if something is missing. It could be as simple as a missing LARS commodity for a freight car.

There is an .html file, Log.html if I remember correctly, that will list additional content errors. I was able to solve the error by fixing the errors listed in this file.

It's been a long time since I've used TRS2004 so I am thin on the details. There may even be a link in this file to the DLS to search for the missing content.

Learn to live with it perhaps. One of the many good reasons for buying TRS2006 is that you can disable that warning screen and forget about it. It has been my experience that this type of error is usually caused by some piece pf content that you have placed on your route requiring some other bit of content that you don't have, such as a product being required by an industry, or perhaps an error in a bit of content caused by a creator copying a config file and then forgetting to remove an unnecessary bit of content from his kuid table. This is the sort of thing that TrainzObjectz will not pick up on. It can be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. CMP in TRS2006 makes it much easier. You can try removing items from your route one by one until you find the culprit, but it can be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. Or you can ignore the "black screen of doom".

SUCCESS!

I was about to reply that I would be happier in learning to live with the problem than changing back to TRS2006.
After I bought TRS2006 I was very happy to revert to TRS2004.

I followed the other suggestion of re-saving under a new name and I am very pleased to tell you that the offending message has now gone!

Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions.

This is a great forum

G'day Ian (and everybody else),

I have been waiting for years for someone to bring up the 'nature' of this particular message, which, I must regrettably acknowledge, has been completely misunderstood by all and sundry.

Personally, I think the message is extremely specific and quite clear, yet everybody seems to misunderstand its meaning. The message states "Some custom content used on this map is not installed on your computer." The message refers, quite specifically, to "custom content". This means assets or content that is "custom" created. By this Trainz means content that IS STILL IN THE 'CUSTOM' AREA of the Trainz folders and subsequently NOT installed in the Downloads area (or having been created, converted to a *.cdp file and installed as recommended). Thus it is possible (since once it is converted to a *.cdp and uploaded to the Download Station - and "approved" by Auran), that an unforeseen issue with the asset may cause unforeseen issues with Trainz.

In addition, a custom built asset is only available on the machine on which it is created. If the map is subsequently made avialable for download and the asset is NOT found on the Download Station (the main reason why Download Helper cannot find the 'offending' item when the user tells it go look for it), there will definitely be problems for someone attempting to utilise the map. It is for these reasons that the message is provided - as a subtle reminder that these things should be attended to before the map is taken further...

...and NOT because something is missing...
