Can someone explain what this junk is? This train doesn't even show up on the map yet it still somehow exists on my session. I had to delete and start all over again.

Is it in a hidden layer?

At some stage did you load the route only and edit (delete, move?) the track beneath that particular consist? See Route_and_Session_Basics#Editing_a_Route for more details.

Both will hide a consist - temporarily in the first case until that layer is made visible again, permanently in the second case. In the second case try running the "Delete Missing Assets" option.
