What is TADaemon

Hi all:wave:
I have a few questions for Auran or anyone else that’s better informed than me.

  • What is TADaemon
  • What does it do?
  • Why can’t it do what it’s supposed to do?
  • Why must it always phone home?
  • Why does it make Trainz the most un-stable program in the whole world?
  • When was it written?
  • Who wrote it? (need to know so I can curse him/her)
  • Why do Auran stick with it when it causes so many problems?
  • When is Auran going to release a product that’s coded in true machine code?

Just wondering is all.

Belkenn:confused:

1. It is a program that functions with Content Manager and Trainz 2010.

2. It will keep the database running and fields requests for data from the database. It also will put items into the database when you do a CDP.

3. As near as I can tell it's doing exactly as it should on my system.

4. If it didn't "phone home" then you wouldn't be able to download anything from the DLS using your Content Manager and TS2010 wouldn't function correctly.

5. Can't answer that as this is a highly subjective complaint. Mine works perfectly.

6. Don't know. Not important. You can tell when the release was by looking at the executable file under Properties. Look for Release Date.

7. Don't know.

8. They're "sticking with it" because it allowed some of the overhead processes inside TS2010 to be offloaded to a second program (TADaemon) that runs in parallel.

9. ALL programs are basically machine code; which is binary 1's and 0's. Higher-level programming languages have compilers that translate the human-understandable code into machine understandable code - hence the term 'Machine Code'.

What are your complaints? There is a good chance that some of us here can help.

Bill

It’s not a true machine code program. But rather a compiled C code one and as such will always run slower than true machine code (it creates larger less compact code). I have worked and programmed computers for over 50 years. So if you do not mind: less of the condescending rubbish friend. And I stand by what I say Trainz is the most unstable game in the world.

He's trying to help, not be condescending. In fact, not a single bit of HiBaller's reply seemed condescending in any way. Sorry we haven't all worked computers for 50 years and that we don't have all of the answers. You still didn't state precisely what is happening with your Trainz, because it's pretty hard to diagnose an issue when it remains a mystery. So please, a little less snapping at the people who want to help and a little more information.

This appears to be cause of a problem that has only existed since installing 2010 SP3.
When I save in Surveyor the program does not continue after saving and I have to close using task manager -shows not responding. It saves all changes but just hangs.
When "shutting down" PC I get a window saying "Tadaemon" is still running and do I want to end program (it does not show in task manager).
Not insurmountable but something which should not be happening.
Any ideas ?

How can it be a mystery when 2010 is behaving as it is? Read the posts and I do not mean just my setup.
And trying to give me a 101 on the definition of machine code is condescending.
And anyway my query was for Auran or someone who knew what they where talking about. if Auran is having problems what makes you think you know better and can sort it out?

As Steve Martin says: "Well excuuuuuuuse me!" My programming experience stems from 1961 and has continued through this very day. You gave absolutely no indication of your expansive computing ability by asking the question. My answer was not meant to be condescending at all and if taken that way then I'm sorry.

As Bigboy says, stop snapping at the ones trying to help and let us know what's bugging you. You started this thread with complaints so let's see what they are and if we can help.

Why Bother

Why bother trying to help him? It seems all he wants to do is complain. He provides no specific description of the problem(s) he is experiencing, and thinks that we should give him all kinds of credit for being a programmer for 50 years. Big deal. A lot of us have been programmers, including me. I've been programming for 42 years, and I'm not too proud to ask for help when something doesn't work as I think it should.

His avatar comment says it all - "Too old to care". If he doesn't care, then why should we?

Screw the attack mode...

! You can use Task Manager to re-load whatever...

Starting from TS2010, the "daemon" does Trainz Asset Database updates, etc.

You are so spared from a hang-up with CMv3.3.

You can kill CM using Task Manager, heck even TS2010, but the daemon bugger so needs to do it's function.

It's a "silent-mode" dude, for present & future tasks to be logged into the main data-base...these are functions that prevent pirating as well as hacking into the main database.

Do not be alarmed citizen...! The daemon works for you!

I hate following up in an argument, as it is usually pointless to continue them, but I felt I had to point something out:

Nowhere in your original post did you state you have been a programmer for 50 years. Therefore, when describing machine code to you, HiBaller had no means to demean you, as most people who are not programmers or computer specialists are going to know precisely what machine code is. It is also just as common for someone to have a slight but not complete understanding of a term they use. Therefore, there was no way HiBaller could have known you were a 50 years past programmer, and therefore there was no way he could have written that to be condescending. his only goal was to help, and instead you spat in his face. You're welcome.

I'm sorry I had continue this argument, but blatantly being rude really peeves me. So, please, describe your issue in detail, because as a 50 year programmer would know, there are more ways than one for a program to act up, and there are still some people who would like to help you with this problem that ails your simulation experience with Trainz.

If you're gonna be abusive go somewhere else .. we are all trying to help but not real questions have been asked ... as for wanting an answer from Auran .. go to helpdesk and submit a ticket like everyone else does ... otherwise just be thankful that someone is answering your postings :)
