What is DLC?

The latest Trainz newsletter mentions the latest patches for 2010 and TS12 and lists as one of the changes made by the patches as "Added support for upcoming DLC".

What is DLC?

Diesel Load Compensator?
Digital Life Consumer?
Download Limit Calculator?

Unless I'm mistaken it stands for DownLoadable Content, i.e. when purchased the item is supplied as a digital download, not a boxed product.

Cheers,
Ian

Downloadable Content is something of a recent phenomenon in gaming - most games these days on consoles and PC have official DLC available for purchase, usually in the form of extra characters/costumes/missions/stories etc.

Supposedly it's meant to increase replay value of games, but really it's often just a sneaky way of developers and publishers milking more money from game sales, not that it's a bad thing of course. :p

As stated, Trainz DLC is special optional Auran-made locos and rolling stock packs you can't get anywhere else (ala, the DLS) that you have to buy from Auran themselves. Essentially, it's Auran-made payware. At the moment, there isn't really any DLC I'm particularly interested in (my main interest in railways is my local prototype), although I admit the Blue Comet does look tempting. ;)

Thank you for all the replies - I am now much wiser. I have already purchased the Duchess set and the VR wagon set but now I will look forward to seeing what DLC offerings will start to appear.

Is that price less than $19.99 aus dollars ?
Also Auran specifies 2010 sp3, whereas dell say 2009 or 2010.

I don't know Fran, but I bought the Comet DLS from an E Bay store for about $12.00 USD. There's places to buy them that are less expensive than Auran. I know, "support your local Auran and all that", but I prefer to take advantage of market driven prices whenever possible.

Auran will have still got a % out of the price so you have supported.

Speaking of vouchers, I have a 20% discount voucher available for the Blue Comet if anyone is interested.

It expires on 30 November.

Ian

Yeah, I think those are automatically given to all members who have a current version of Trainz registered. I keep getting sent them by Auran which I quickly forget about. :p

I'll probably invest in the Comet tomorrow once I can put some money on my debit card, as my internet bill kinda cleaned it out. :o
