A Great unexpected treat to see LMS Pacific 4-6-2 6201 Princess Elizabeth taking part in The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations putting in an appearance on the West London Extension Railway Bridge over the River Thames and sounding off in salute to Her Maj.

Well done whoever was responsible.

Happy Days.

I have to agree with you there gamerouche seeing the LMS Pacific "Princess Elizabeth" standing on that bridge in full steam above the River pageant was for me the television shot of the afternoon amongst many great shots. She looked magnificent with paintwork absolutely gleaming and white steam being blown off. There was also the steam barges on the River along with the tall sailing ships and not to forget the Dunkirk veteran vessels. It was a great site but I have to say again the Princess Elizabeth standing above all that was something I will remember from the day for a very long time.

It has to be remembered that when the Queen came to the throne 60 years ago that locomotive would have been in everyday use on British rail along with many hundreds more.

I agree (from the other side of the pond) a great idea. Congrats to who ever thought of it.

As Bill mentioned steam was in everyday use when she ascended to the throne so she might even be a secret trainfan (tho we will probably never know).

As Dave said pictures! we need pictures.

Totally agree gamerouche. It was a real surprise to see it on the bridge as I didn't expect it then it shounded the whistle several times. Brilliant addition to the day.

Definately the best part, though I was annoyed how the BBC cut away at the key moment and didn't really explain the significance (not sure they even mentioned it was called 'Princess Elizabeth').

I agree gentlemen, that it was a "nice touch" and kudos to all you that demonstrated your resolve (and respect) for braving the weather to take part in the homage. I can't help but wonder what locomotive will be present forty six years from now when our nation celebrates the rule of our own "king". Probably none....by then.:D

Absolutely magnificent, especially those last sequences. The sounds of steam; thats what railways are all about.
