Weird/Funny Idea...

I've had this idea for a long time: what is a public school (preferably high school) were to construct a rail system into various areas of its district, purchase its own fleet of locomotives and rolling stock, and essentially make a "school train" system? That would be, in my opinion, amazing. What do you think?

ive thought of this before, but its not cost efective to the school district (at least not here in washington). but it would be cool to see this happen.

So you're proposing laying trolley tracks all over creation...like in the good ol' days gone by ? Eisenhower, GM, Ford, and the Oil Companies set out to purposely bankrupt and sabotage the trolley lines all across the US...and they saw to it that the rails were immediately torn up, forever...and you want to put the rails back in the roads ? Think of the years of automobile gridlock caused by 10-20 years of constructing it.

Phila Pa once had trolley tracks running up every other street N/S...now they are all but gone...people hated the trolley congestion that they caused in street running. Whats the difference between a trolley and a bus ? If you're thinking Green, as the vehicle(s) would be electricly powered from overhead lines...think again, as all the millions of cars, bus's, and trucks, that are inturn caught up in mass gridlock behind a slow moving train/trolley/fool-bus blocking the road.

Railways used to be used by children all over the world to get to school - some still do. One example is (was AFAIK) the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, the World's Smallest Public Railway on the South East coast of England. Years ago (since I don't know of any children using it to get to school anymore, quite a lot of the schools they went to back then might have been closed knowing us English :hehe:) hundreds of children used it to get to their schools at various towns on the line.
I doubt that a school would build itself such a thing nowadays.
