Want to buy Trainz 2010

I want to get 2010 and had a question. If I buy it through the download part and not the retail box order and say my computer crashes and I lose my download would I have to pay for it again to download it or does the company know you paid for it once and will let you download it again?

If you can't do that then I'll just going to order to retail box so I have a cd just in case something would happen down the road.

Thank you for any info you can give me.

As far as I'm aware, you can download it from the planet auran page (from your order history) for as long as auran still offer it for download...

I'd say 'forever', but nothing is forever, and there will invariably be a day when Auran stops offering it, either because they no longer exist, or because they don't support it anymore.

I just checked my download links and they are, indeed, still available.

However... I would strongly recommend creating a helpdesk ticket to get an official response - others may add their experiences, but in the end, it's all anecdotal.

Personally, I wrote the files to a dual-layer DVD, and so I have a backup that way, being able to get to the files online is nice, but realisticly, being able to reinstall from a backup is YOUR responsibility, if Auran goes under, no amount of official policy will allow you to keep downloading it :)

Because of the ifs and buts, I would recommend purchasing the boxed product, even though you'll probably have to wait a while to get it. In general, I've found you're better off purchasing physical media (be it a music CD, a DVD, or a game) for a number of reasons: Higher quality, ease of backup, etc. That's why I went for the boxed edition.

I will say though that I think Auran has a better rep than most manufacturers or vendors about allowing re-downloads.

Thank you everyone for all your replies. I think I'm just going to order the disk just in case. Can't wait for this friday to get paid and order this. 2010 looks so fun too, I'm still playing with Trainz Ultimate Collection LoL. I saw it at my work for 9.99 so I got it, then found out its 8 years old hehe.

Again thank you everyone for your replies.
