Walking in front of trains

Found this among pictures of world events.
And I thought some Americans who do this are nuts, this looks like it is an everyday occurance.

That's illegal and dangerous. I hope that no one of you folks ever tries this. However, there's still the dummies that do it, and it's common to drive around the crossing in Argentina. Even if it were legal in Canada, I still wouldn't do it because the trains are going about 80 km/h here and could hit you very easily.
!Do these people have any sense whatsoever!

I've seen drivers on Trainz go through a railway crossing barrier and clipping the end of the train. It seems they don't hear my warning bell or horn/whistle.:hehe: Are they deaf?!

One of those days, it will happen... Oh btw, My sister had an accident yesterday, got knocked down by a car turning into the crossroads in poynton. Thank the lord she only hurt her arm.. she has had the day off. her arm is covered...

Whoops... went off topic...

That's illegal and dangerous.

Actually, in the country where that picture was taken it's part of daily life and not illegal.

I remember seeing a video, not sure if it was Indonesia, there was a railway line laid right through the middle of a very active market. The stall owners would set up as normal but when the warning is sounded they would quickly pack up there stalls, allow the train to pass through (which was travelling at a very slow walking pace) and the re-set up their stalls.

There are awards known as the Darwin Awards which are given (posthumously) to people who have died as a result of their Cro-Magnon stupidity.
The people in front of the train are strong contenders.

Quite recently I should have been up for a Darwin Award. Only a couple of months ago, I misjudged my timing and ran in front of a train on the Blue Line in LA (yes, we do have some light rail!!) with my heavy bag, and realised afterwards I could have easliy tripped on the rails and it would have been all over. I also realised afterwards that in my 63 years of terrorist incidents, earthquakes, etc., it was the closest I have ever come to being killed or seriously injured. I made a point of apologising profusely to the driver when I got off the train!

If you examine the photo you will see that the train is some way back from the people on the track, look at the sleepers, that is a telephoto shot. I would expect that as the track is in a shared zone the train is running at little more than walking speed.

In India, on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, there is a similar section where the track runs through a market, and people behave in just the same way.

Idiots

Hi guys,
I heard that a hunter in the Czech Republic nearly got killed on a test track. He was walking over the line when a BR class 357 Electrostar, being tested before it's launch, ran over his 2 dogs and a deer at Velim test track. Because the line was not used reguarly, he was not expecting a train to pass at up to a 100mph. The train had its front valance removed to be repaired.

I've had a frightening close call with a Metra train myself, while rail fanning at a local yard. While concentrating on my camera's view finder I was surprised by a consist approaching from behind at about fifty MPH. I was not on the tracks, or in any real danger, but when intently staring at a telephoto view, having the train rush by in front of me nearly stopped my heart!

The video of the train going through the stalls/market is here in Thailand. I've been on this train before and sadly after living here for a period of time it barely raises an eyebrow :hehe:. That's life in Thailand.

Just as common as some countries people walk in front of cars:( . The problem is that they lack education to know these common safety features or just don't care its a sad place for countries like that:'( .

Very true Beattie I see it all the time over here :(.

Worst still it happens back home. I won't post the link but there is a very disturbing video of someone being hit at railroad station crossing. Remember the old safety saying "any train can move on any track at any time" and this video proves it!:'(
