Hi, Lately VMD released a great collection of ''ex-payware'' of GP7/9. A great thanks to them. Unfortunately, the bell does not work. Does anyone else have this issue ? Does anyone knows how to fix it ?

Thanks for help !

Hi Pete,

What's wrong with the bell? If the bell is missing, grab one from another unit. I've done that before when I didn't like the one that came with a locomotive.

You simply edit the config.txt and replace the corresponding bell Kuid with a new one.

Thanks John, its not that I don't like it, there is no bell since they have been upgraded and there is no missing dependencies. I had them when they were payware for trz 2004-6 and the bell was working.

As you suggest, I will have a look in the config file. But I was also wondering if this have happened to other trainzer and not only me.

I downloaded the ATSF Zebra and got the depenencies via the DLS. The bell works for me.

Bell not working in 2012

Hi, The bell (of VMD GP 7/9) works fine in 2010 but not in 2012, could you, if you use 2012 try it and tell if you also have this issue please ?

No bell sound in TS2010

This may be OT for you but I suddenly lost all bell sounds. Manually played a couple of random idle 1.wav files and they worked ok. Checked my keyboard.txt file and see the bell key cmd has been changed to alt s. I changed it back to b, then saved. Tested the bell on a couple of locos, one worked and one didn't. The no work one was on NH P32ACDM,<kuid:126323:208>. Checked its hornsound kuid, builtin Airchime K5LA Horn,<kuid2:126323:54722:1>, and note that the bell sound file is listed as idle1.wav. Changed to idle 1.wav, saved and commit. Now I have bell sounds on those locos.

What's wrong

I'am really surprised that nobody who uses trs 2012 and downloaded VMD's GP7/9 freeware can't tell me if the bell works for him on these units !

Am I on the wrong forum ? Should I start a new thread in ''Trainz 2012'' instead of ''General Trainz''.

I also asked twice in the ''freeware'' section on the VMD thread and no reply.

Could someone please try it and reply to this ? PLEASE

I really want to find out what is the problem.

Thanks!

You're right

OK, I tried it. The bells work in TS2010, they do not work in TS12. As for why or how to fix it, I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Ding ding

I found the gotcha. The bell sound (idle_1.wav) in the asset "Bell and Horn for the EMD GP7/9" is saved in a compressed format (ADPCM).

I opened it in a sound editor and saved it in uncompressed format, committed the asset, and now the bell rings in TS12. I will utter swear words if I go back into TS2010 and the bell no longer works there.

Thank you very much Bob...finally someone came out the box:hehe: .....I dont know exactly what is a sound editor, but I will google it and try.

Edit: I have Nero wave editor but just dont know how to saved it in an ''uncompressed format''. Could you please tell how to do it please?

How to...

Use "Edit in Explorer" on the asset "Bell and Horn for the EMD GP7/9". Use Nero Wave Editor to open the file "idle_1.wav". Save it without changing anything... Nero always saves .wav files in uncompressed format.
